- This is how to remove your top dash pad and speedometer cluster, to fix your old speedometer , The reason I just change the memory board and not the whole speedo is so I can keep the miles right for the jeep , Most of the time when the memory board goes bad the mileage meter will still work, That's what my jeep did, mileage was still working just the speed part was not,
We bought a good instrument cluster off eBay for my 95 Grand Cherokee. Watched the video from John and all went super well. The hardest part was disconnecting the wire loom connector. Nothing major. The speedo now works again! Thanks John
How did you disconnected the wire connector? im afraid of breaking it
saved me a bunch of work by taking the top of, thank you.
I appreciate the video. I had to a access my gauge cluster on my 94 ZJ. This video truly helped
Thank you John. I am working on this at the moment. Some mishaps of note. Had trouble getting the plug loose due to two keeps which were a huge pain to get off... Then the second on flipped off and ended up down in the dash. I used my phone to locate then reached in to recover. Putting it all back together... Should be driving it tomorrow.
No joy. Now oil guage and speedo are not working. Lol
Thanks. I have to pull my dash. Couldn't find those top 4 fasteners.
Look under the defroster grill. Your 4 screws are under that.
Nice vid man. I have a problem with the speedometer not working and erratic needle movement on my wife's 95 Grand Cherokee and this was very helpful. Were there any obvious broken or burnt circuits on the circuit board that wasn't working?
Thanks from France 🇫🇷
Thanks for this video man I've been looking for a while on how to do it without taking the whole dash apart this really helps thanks man
My 95 JGCL w/4.0 isn't like this. It has one complete circuit board and the speedo, tach and gauges don't come apart separately on the back. If you've ever worked on a gm from the late 80's it's like them. If something goes wrong on the back you have to change the whole circuit board.
Nice informative video dude. Thanks. Not sure if you are doing anymore jeep videos. I needed to change the light bulbs in the speedo so your video was very helpful. Only thing is, what's the best way to UNPLUG the cluster and completely remove it?
Yes is there a way to just purchase the memory board? Where do you get a replacement one at besides the junkyard? I have intermittent failure of the speedometer and also the odometer at the same time but the trip meter up above in the center top still works but my analog one down below in the gauge cluster intermittently stops working and the speed also stops working when I'm going down the highway. I have already replaced the vehicle speed sensor, no joy!!
OK, so where do you get a new memory board for the speedometer??
I've heard its not a bad board but rather a poor electrical connection with that board. Possibly just cleaning the board and putting it back in place will be enough to fix the issue. I have yet to do this, but I will be when it is warm again.
snoopdogie187 did you fix
Still winter here. Without a heated garage, I don't want to get into this project. I'll also be replacing the heater core while I'm in there because that isn't easy to do.
@@snoopdogie187 How about now? hehe
Having erratic speedo issues, but i've got a garmin gps
everse camera so theres no hurry for me to fix this yet.
Not yet. Its not a high priority for me.
how about now???
Where can I buy that memory board?
Thanks life saver
I'll have to try this, mine didn't work at all now with new speed sensor it works every so often for like half a mile then stop then randomly works again then stops
I am trying to fix the heater core in a 94 grand cherokee zj, can you helpe by anychance?
Our speedometer goes backwards? Can we do this to fix ours or do we need a new one.?
The same with mine…🤪
I’ll try to fix it this days…Let’s see what happens…
@@carmaniaoficial8584 You never answered back lol
@@itachiankoku2042 sorry, bro. I replaced mine and everything went well after that. I bought a pre-owned one on eBay…
Did you do the same process as above (just the board) or did you replace the entire assembly? And thanks for replying back after a year lol
@@itachiankoku2042I replaced the entire assembly…
so did anyone learn where to buy a new speedometer memory board?
Go online and find a used one. Swap the memory board. Try DEADJEEPS.COM. I got a new looking used fan control unit from them today. Headed out to swap it now. Pulled a connection from under dash trying to find out where it's from. LOL
Dude how do I unplug the dammed thing
Ur camera skills sucks tho man not getting a good view how u doing it
