    Btw, you talk about the plugs a lot, I've seen info about that in Jeep Forum, they are for different TC's. "you can find the wires in the harness behind the VIC and switch the plug from the red plugs (249) to the black plugs(242\231) so the the VIC shows the correct mode."

    I have read so much on this VIC and seems everybody has issues with the House marked TO-220 style part next to the transformer. It's label with 04M03 on it. Has anyone figured out what it is and a replacement for it?

    HI you seem to know your way around the electronics. Any idea what the chip with the large heatsink behind the Voltage regulator is. Mine let the smoke out and need replacing.

    Hello. Which manual did you use to repair, almost at the end of the video you can see the VIC connectors, I have searched and I can't find information on what powers each cable. Thank for help

      No manual, but I do have the 1993-1995 dealer service manual. I have access to the 1996+ dealer service manual on PDF if you want that. Do you need the pin out of the vic connector? I found that with a web search.

    hey man. i decided to recap mine cuz it had a couple leaky caps. Like an idiot I got two of the caps confused. Any chance you might be able to tell me where the 80V 100UF cap and the 16v 47uf cap go?

    • @yz250ftony
      @yz250ftony  5 років тому

      i'm not 100% sure but i did take a top view picture while i had it out. have you tried comparing video stills of the cap physical dimensions to what you have? it's a bit of a stretch. it's probably obvious to you, but can you distinguish the low and high voltage sides of the circuit? the 80v/100uf cap is going to be a big one and the 16v 47uf will be significantly smaller. if this isnt help, shoot me your email and i'll send you the pic i have. i'm recapping a ham radio, 65 caps total. just gotta do 1 at a time.

    I have a similar problem, random resets, shutting off, etc. First did this solve the issue or has it returned? Second, could I just go thru with a soldering fun and touch each joint for a few secs to remelt them?

    • @yz250ftony
      @yz250ftony  6 років тому +2

      1, yes this has resolved the issue. It doesn't reset anymore and it doesn't flash random stuff. 2. yes you can just touch the joints and remelt them but I recommend adding a tiny dab of 60/40, it will add a small amount of lead to the joint. being softer, it'll resist cracking again and it'll lower the chances of a cold solder joint

    Hi.
    Please, I have a broken VIC display from a 1995 Jeep Cherokee. I'm trying to fix it. I found 1 transistor fired. Can't you tell me what type of transistor is? What is written on it?

      @@yz250ftony my VIC (1996 ZJ) is flickering between the normal screen and everything being lit up at once/scrambled pacman screen. This includes a periodic 6 beep warning alarm that drives me crazy. When it flickers to the normal screen, it sometimes says coolant level low - but actually it's not. This warning may explain the beeping sound. Q1. Does this sound like something that soldering those terminals might fix? Q2. If I unscrew the dash and unplug the VIC completely, will this stop the beeping or just the flashing screen? Both are very distracting while driving. It would be nice to restore the VIC but I'm not sure I really need it as the warnings are BS anyway. Thanks for your help it's a thorn in my side. A
