Thanks for the video. It was very informative! If you were to take the same trip again, would you still choose the 690? or would the 500 or 890 work better? How about the vibrations in handlebar or pegs? any issues?
@@Gen-X.Adventures great question! The 690 was the perfect bike for the TAT loops we were doing, after the fairing/rally tower install. The 890 looks like a great bike, but the added weight (120 lbs heavier) is substantial when navigating the single/double track routes. In stock form the 690 would have been more fatiguing on the faster sections due to the lack of wind protection without a fairing, however the Rad Garage fairing kit was perfect for combating this, yet not taking away from the “dirtbike” feeling of the bike. We considered building 500’s but with the added electrical draw of GPS’s, cell phone charging, etc, and possible heated hand grips in the future, the 690 it better equipped for added more accessories. As well, and the biggest reason for not building 500’s is the lack of subframe that they have. With the added weight of the Mosko Moto bags, we wanted to make sure we didn’t run into any issues. Although we cracked a sub frame fuel tank on the one bike (I haven’t heard of this before and think this was a one off issue), I have heard of a number of ppl cracking the subframes on the 350’s and 500’s when loaded down and riding aggressively. Hope this helps and happy/safe riding!
@shredstoneadventures Thanks for the info! I'm planning on doing the TAT next year. I'll probably wait until late fall to see if KTM reworks the 690 for 2025 (rumors) If you guys want a loop closer to home, check out the Minnesota Recon Route. 1200 miles around the state with very little pavement. I've been doing loops of it on my 890, but it's a little big on some parts (for my skills) Thanks again for the response!
It’s total BS! We ended up relying on the under seat auxiliary tank more and trying to leave less fuel in the main to reduce head pressure, so it didn’t leak as bad. We made it to Port Orford and then rode up to Eugene where the truck was parked, then headed up to Calgary. The total mileage from Cape Hatteras to Port Orford was 5767 Miles (9279 kms).
@@shredstoneadventures Ya, I just didn't trust my 690 and sold it. No more KTM adventure bikes for me unless, that company sorts it's shit out and starts taking care of customers. Glad you guys figured out and I hope you had a ton of fun. I just did the TAT backwards, mostly solo. A cool trip indeed
@@airadaimagery692 I don’t remember off hand the total wet weight with the bike with the bags on. But weighing just the bags fully loaded they were around 80lbs. The Mosko Moto bags are not overly light to begin with, however they are extremely well made and would sacrifice weight for durability any day. We have the V3 Reckless 80L bags and right after we ordered them, they came out with the V4 system, which I believe is lighter. Hope this helps!
@@kztrekz3329 Hahahaha…. We planned to do it in around 3 weeks, but once we started riding and got into the groove of packing and unpacking our bikes, we found it pretty do able to do 250-350 miles a day, depending on the terrain. Some days were on the low end, and some days were faster and high end. We didn’t take any full rest days, just the needed time for oil and tire changes.

Sorry to hear about your trip altering leaky tank.
