I’m making my list for my first trip on TAT (solo novice)(CRF300) NC--->west June-July. I’ll let the climate & degree of difficulty dictate my route. Great suggestions! I took 5 that I hadn’t thought of. Hope to see you out there!
Interesting about the nose spray. Coming from Canada I would have never thought of that being an issue. For a saw for trail clearing I bought an Otzi Pocket Chainsaw. It can cut almost any diameter of log, cheaper than the foldable swede saws, easy to use, packs small, super light weight (I think 3.5oz.). In literally 3 pulls it cut a 3" pine tree branch.
Germany... Thanks for the vid. From what I've seen, a saw is a "must have." Too often thunderstorms cause folks serious complications, if they aren't ready to clear the trail.
I know its late but Croatia second guess Bosnia. And good list :) When I ride in the mountains I have an Inreach/ Zoleo(samething) and a SAT Phone (Nice to have, expensive though). The silke is an awesome folding saw, I have one and it cuts through things so fast you'd have sworn it had a motor :)
Over view map, gps maps bought from Sam Correro on his TAT website and roll charts too. I needed all three. The GPS Kevin Maps are free but not updated as often. I thought it was well worth $30 to not get lost in the middle of the desert.
You know, I've read both his books. But I don't remember. I lived in Texas when I got into bikes and my first flat tire fix in 105 weather made an impression .
Wonderful advice, and I will add. Bolyclova is not a mask to block covid. As a desert rider, you are right, it can get dry. If you were a something like a surgeon, mask the humidity in your breath with prevent drying out. Also, really helps with trail dust. Hydration so important, so a camel back is really a good idea. This brings me to cloths, I see people out on the trail wearing black. OMG you are not going to a party, this is not a fashion statement, ware light colors. YES, Umbrella but white, not black.
You are correct, a balaclava doesn’t protect for covid. But our 3x vaccines have seemed to kept us protected. My wife has a doctorate in virology. I think the best umbrella would be white on top to reflect and black on underside. I taught studio photography at the university of Texas and I use white umbrellas to transmit light and black objects to block light.
Yes. I would be happy to. I was actually approached by a publisher to do a book on the tat in 2013. We did it then, but for various reasons missed out on some of the hardest/best parts. So this last summer Gabriella and I did the parts that I missed the first go round. Gabriella acted as navigator. She has ridden all over Europe and in Bolivia on the "most dangerous road in the world".
Great video, paused it several times to add things to my motorcycle trip list! Subscribed.
Thanks Rod! We will do more soon.
Awesome video series you two!

Glad you enjoyed it Nathan. We will be doing more soon so subscribe .
I like the flask, the pillow and the lube. Wonderful couple with great advise for other couples.
I know this is an old video but i have to chime in... "Zip lock bags". Large and small

It was serious. You’d get a bloody nose in 2 days without it.
Great Video, Plan on riding the TAT this August
Thanks for watching! I have several more that are relevant if you search my channel and subscribe.
A wire saw, or a "pocket chain saw", can cut larger branches than the foldable, and takes up less space
I tried that specifically because of weight and space. The wire saw took forever to cut a 3 inch branch. Maybe there’s better wire saws out there.
@@GIDDYUPADVENTURES I haven't tried the "pocket chain saw" but they do look interesting. And the wire saw I once had cut thru most things with ease.
The foldable saw has the performance of a powered chain saw and is stronger than 1,000 wire saws.
+1 for solving 'crusty bugger' issue.
