Great video! In addition to the other safety tips mentioned, I will add: don't walk on an area that you've just burnt. That hot gravel will melt the soles of your shoes, if you're not careful.
I bought this and had some trouble starting it.. I found your video very helpful! Thank you so much!! My father passed away at a young age and your help reminded me of him(similar personality!) thank you for not only helping me but making me smile with your commentary 😊
I can't believe I have been picking weeds. Bought one today, cleared our entire large gravel area near the out building. It was wonderful. Great review. Thanks.
I know, isn't it great! One thing to be careful for is near any good plants, or if you have plastic under the rocks it could melt. But really, I love not pulling weeds now!
You don't just burn the top you have to heat the gravel up more so the roots are burnt and it lasts longer make sure you keep safety glasses on because if you ever got gravel or cement hot you will know how it explodes
Glad I could help. A couple of tips I’ve learned over the years is to make sure you wet down the good plants near your burn so they don’t get hurt. Another idea is to wet down a board and put that between the torch and the good stuff.
Glad I Subscribed because this video may have solved a big problem for me. I’m going to do a video of how many weeds my old kennel gets and how this will hopefully clean that up. My dog has passed away and now I can easily maintain the kennel til we get a puppy some day. Thanks.
Have fun! A couple of hints I have learned in the past few years. 1. Wet down any good plants near by that you do not want to get too hot. 2. I have attached a couple of handles to a small piece of plywood.....get it wet so it does not burn easily, and you can completely block the heat from the good plants. Have fun!
Would anybody know why my torch will blow itself out when you squeeze the handle/trigger for the gas? It worked fine last year. This year I will light it and it might stay lit but 9/10 times when I give it gas, it will blow itself out. I've tried different levels of having the valves open. I'm made sure everything is tight. I've even cleaned out the hole inside the torch head.
I wish I could give you exact advise, but it sounds like you tried what I would recommend. Mine blows out if I have the gas flow too high. I adjust the level a bit lower, and then it works fine. No other tips from me. Anyone else experience this, and have a fix?
I bought one at Home Depot, it worked fine the first time, after the first use I put it away, I tried using it again and it didn’t work, didn’t even hear gas going through. What do you think happened
Odd….check the obvious first. Tank valve on, want know on. If those are ok, check the hose for debris?(maybe a spider made a web inside of it? Good luck!
You may be opening your tank valve too quickly. There is a safety valve internal to the tank and if you open the valve too quickly, the valve senses the flow as a leak and shuts the flow down. This is a good safety device in case of a cracked or broken supply hose, like on your BBQ. If you had a cracked hose, you might not notice it (if you went inside the house for a minute, then you could have a serious gas leak. The right mix of propane and air is highly explosive. There are videos on that issue that you might want to check out.
ALWAYS check for leaks, BEFORE IGNITION. Soapy water around the seals; look for bubbles. I've tried the vinegar, bleach and dishwashing liquid formula, 3X within a 7 day period. The dandelions and thistles still survived. I'm going to try THIS option next, BEFORE I decide to put in mulch or fake turf!
I got the one that Lowe's Sells of this, basically the same, just different name, the hose already came attached to the wand on the one I got, in a matter of seconds, I Burned 4 foot tall weeds still green & growing that was in an area I used to have a vegetable garden, but now I'm building a garage for my Mountain bike there, so I'm clearing a spot for the bike garage. those things are awesome & work great.
Yes, I totally agree! I have found it works differently at different times of the year. In the spring the weeds grow back pretty quick, but in the summer and fall you can get rid of them completely.
@@dazzlingdaveyoyo I just done a stripe a few days ago & had at least an inch of rain so far since then, the spot that I did that had 4 foot tall weeds, it's bare dirt, hopefully it stays that way till I get the Bike garage done, laying bricks & using tar for mortar as a floor.
@@dazzlingdaveyoyo Now I've cleared a 7 foot by 9 foot spot of 4 foot weeds down to bare dirt, I got 2x posts in the ground for the bike garage, I need to get more Lumber though, but I got one hole half dug & another marked, the 2 posts I got, the Concrete's Curing, I love that Torch, it's like the Closest thing to having a Flame Thrower, while still being legal, lol.
Thank you so much for the follow-up clip! That is ALWAYS missing from these videos! Did you notice any leakage from the threading would you consider throwing on a strip of thread tape? I know that a flare joint really only cares about a tight fit but it looked like the inner thread on the tank may not have been that?
It seems to work a lot better when using the high power flame. I don’t have proof of it, but I think it might kill the seeds that haven’t germinated yet down in the rocks. Where as the pilot light might not even kill the roots completely.
how close to a house can I get? probably a dumb question but I have the same thing going on a property i work on. i dont want to weedwack because there are too many rocks to be picked up and thrown at the house and I would never be able to get low enough. What are your thoughts on distance to a house?
What I ended up doing when being near spots I didn’t want to get too hot, is using a piece of old plywood. I would soak down the plywood with water and make sure that it was wet so it wouldn’t catch fire. And put it in place so that the good thing wouldn’t get burned, and I could burn out all the weeds.
Thanks. I have also instituted a piece of plywood that I installed handles on to put between the good plants and wreds. I soak the plywood first so that it doesn’t catch on fire.
Thanks for the video. I bought this exact MagTorch to clear weeds out of the gravel pit next to my driveway, but I'm a little uncertain what to do about the wooden fence. What would you suggest using to shield the fence so I don't accidentally burn it?
Teksura I took a piece of old plywood, cut it to about 2’ x 4’ and screwed on a couple of handles to it. I get it wet, and have my son block anything I don’t want to get hot. (Fence, good plants, etc)
Wetting down fence will certainly help (before, after or both). Cement sheet cladding/lining is also very good at resisting fire, used the same as the plywood mentioned by others. A piece a cement sheet will eventually get brittle, but easier to replace this than your fence.
G- Thanks. I carried my 20lb tank around. Did not use up much at all. Obviously I couldn’t measure it exactly, but I put it back on my grill and used it all summer.
I have tried to get away from using ground clear.....it seems to always get washed into the good plants anyway! I was surprised how well the torch method worked. VERY little weeds grew back even late into the summer.

From what I've seen it's some valve safety doohickey. (rapid release) Try squeezing the trigger slower was advised in another vid.
