Fun fact regarding 100+ wins team getting swept in a postseason series that same season:
The 1999 Braves won 100+ games in the regular season, but yet they got swept in a postseason series, as they join the following MLB teams to win 100+ games in a season AND TO ALSO get swept in a postseason series THAT SAME SEASON (as of the end of the 2023 season):
    - 1954 Cleveland Indians (swept by Willie Mays and his catch, and the New York Giants)
    - 1963 Yankees (swept by Koufax and the Dodgers pitching)
    - 1971 Oakland Athletics (swept by the Orioles in the ALCS, when Orioles had a mini-dynasty)
    - 1976 Phillies (swept by Big Reds Machine in NLCS)
    - 1980 Yankees (swept by the George Brett Royals in ALCS, Royals finally beat Yankees in ALCS in 1980, after losing to them in ALCS in 1976-1977-1978)
    - 1990 Oakland Athletics (swept by Lou Pinella’s Reds in World Series)
    - 1999 Atlanta Braves (swept by the Yankees dynasty in the World Series)
    - 2004 Cardinals (swept by the curse-breaking Red Sox in World Series).
    - 2019 Twins (swept against the Yankees in the Division Series, Yankees domination over Twins in postseason continues).
    - 2023 Orioles (swept by the Rangers in the Division Series)
    - 2023 Dodgers (swept by Arizona in the Division Series)
So two Tony LaRussa managed-teams have won 100+ games in a season and then gotten swept in the postseason that same season = 1990 Athletics in the World Series and 2004 Cardinals in the World Series.
And it happened twice in the 2023 postseason.

The 95th World Series was a much anticipated rematch of the 1996 World Series, and was also a chance to stake claim as the Team of the 90s. The Atlanta Braves went from worst-to-first in 1991 to get all the way to the World Series, then returned in 1992. In their third trip in 1995, the Braves got their title. Also, the Braves won more games in the 1990s than any other team in baseball by about 60 games. Meanwhile, after a 14 year playoff hiatus, the Yankees returned in 1995, and the following year, reached the World Series against.....the Braves. After dropping the first two in NYC, the Yankees won three in a row in Atlanta, including a 6-0 comeback in Game 4. New York won Game 6 to take the series. Two years later, the season of their lives when the Yankees won 125 games overall, 11-2 in the playoffs, to win the title again.
Now, in 1999, the Yankees and Braves square off to see who wins the Series and earn the moniker of Team of the 90s. In Game 1 at Turner FIeld, Greg Maddux (starting, because Tom Glavine came down with a stomach virus) faced El Duque. Both teams traded zeroes early on. In the 4th, Chipper Jones went yard off Orlando for a 1-0 Atlanta lead. That was all El Duque allowed in 7 innings. Come the 8th, a single, a walk, and an error loaded the bases with Yankees. Jeter's single tied the game and knocked Maddux out. On came John Rocker to face Paul O'Neill, who was having a fractured rib and a .190 average against lefties. Throw it out, as O'Neill drilled a single to right to score two runs and put the Yankees ahead to stay. Final score was 4-1, Yankees.
Before Game 2, the All-Century Team was announced. Among the top 30 included Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron, Roger Clemens, Warren Spahn, Nolan Ryan, Pete Rose, and the youngest of them in Ken Griffey Jr. Onto the game, where the Braves turned to Kevin Millwood, but with disastrous resules. The Yankees scrunched five singles in the first for three runs and two more in the third. David Cone allowed only 1 hit through 7 innings, as the Yankees won, 7-2.
Onto the Bronx for Game 3, the Braves jumped on Andy Pettitte in the Yankees' 200th WS game ever. Bret Boone had three doubles in the first four innings, and the Braves led 5-1 after four. But then, the Yankees' power showed. Chad Curtis went yard in the 5th, followed by Tino in the 7th. And in the 8th, Chuck Knoblauch hit a two-run shot to tie it up. And then, in the 10th, Chad Curtis, who hit just 5 home runs all year, got his biggest thrill with a game winning shot to win the game for the Yankees, 6-5.
But ballplayers are human. In recent weeks, Scott Brosius and Luis Sojo lost their fathers. Paul O'Neill's father passed away on the morning of Game 4, yet O'Neill took his place in right. Roger Clemens took the mound and kept the Braves' bats cold with a two-hit shutout over 7 innings. The Yankees scored three off John Smoltz in the third and then Jim Leyritz hit a pinch-homer in the 8th. Series' MVP Mariano Rivera pitched a 1-2-3 9th to seal the 4-1 win. With it, the Yankees were World Champions again, and the moniker of Team of the Decade. It was also the Yankees' 25th World Title in the 20th century, as they went 11-1 in the playoffs, 12 straight WS wins.
Even if the World Series was a coronation, thanks SW561 for another exciting 1999 season and a great trip over the 1990s with the Regular Season highlights and playoffs galore, more so over the past 7 years. Now, beginning tomorrow, we look forward to the 21st century and the 2000 season, where a new contender will give the Yankees a run for it in the East Bay.
