Who's here, after the Braves won the 2021 world series? I remember them winning in 95, I was 21 then, through highs and lows even in the '21 season, players Hurt, players acquired, still a team that didn't give up. I'm happy for everyone involved, there's something special about baseball, the '95 magic, heart was replayed in the '21 world series. Hank is certainly smiling from above. Congrats Braves, even if you're not a fan, their story this season almost played out like the bad news bears
I was 29...born in Atlanta...watched every game in 95 and I still call Atlanta my home. I watched that 95 game with my Dad and wish he could have seen this 2021 World Series...he would have been so proud of the Braves!!!
You're so right!!! I was stationed in Hawaii in 95. I was actually able to watch almost every game that season because of the time difference. What a season that was!! This year had it's very own magic. This team came together and beat all the odds!!! Any coach from any sport will be able to sit their team down and show them how guts and determination and the will to win can spell out CHAMPIONS!!!! GO BRAVES!!!!!
Although its not considered one of the best or most memorable because Atlanta took a 3-1 lead AND there was no game 7. If the series ended up 2-2 after 4 games, then this would have been one of the most memorable WS.

The answer, by and large, was a resounding yes. In Game 1, Greg Maddux was, well, Maddux. He allowed only two hits, got just two outfield outs, and went the distance in a 3-2 Atlanta win. Then, in Game 2, Javy Lopez's bat and arm were the keys to a 4-3 win. His 2-run shot in the 6th put the Braves ahead to stay. Then, in the 8th, he picked off Manny Ramirez, the tying run on 1st, snuffing out a rally. The Braves now led, 2-0. In the first WS game in Cleveland in 41 years, the Indians' bats rocked. In a see-saw battle, Jose Mesa pitched three pressure-packed innings to keep it tied at 6. Then, in the 11th, Eddie Murray singled home the winning run to get the Indians back in the series, 7-6. But Steve Avery and the Braves quelled the momentum in Game 4, 5-2, to put the Braves one win from the title. Cleveland showed their resilience in Game 5, as Albert Belle and Jim Thome went deep as the Tribe dealt Maddux his third loss of the season, 5-4, to send the series back to Georgia. Back at Fulton County for Game 6, Tom Glavine, who won Game 2, pitched the game of his life. He held the Tribe hitless for the first five frames, and one hit for 8 frames. David Justice's 6th inning solo shot was the only offense the Braves would need. Three 9th inning outs from Mark Wohlers later, and the Braves finally got their championship, the first for any sports team in Atlanta. Congratulations to the Atlanta Braves. ANd kudos to the Indians, who won 110 games in 1995 for a new generation of adoring fans. And most of all, thank you, SW561 for this trip down memory lane for a 1995 season. Now, we look forward to 1996, and all that entails.
The bats didn't go silent . The umps gift wrapped the series for Atlanta. They expanded the strike zone 4 or 5 inches on the outside corner for Glavine and Maddox. It was so glaringly obvious, the Tribe never had a chance. Not my opinion. Fact look at the game films. It was criminal.
Ah yes the 1996 season. Seven words "back at the wall we are tied." Jim Leyritz HR in game 4 completely shifted the series in the Yankees favor and the Braves attempt to repeat ended.
I was 11 when my braves won this series in 1995, was super pumped and beyond happy when they won in 2021, im happy for the team, the fans and the city of Atlanta
Atlanta is a good team a lot of games they get close to playoffs last year lost by nationals in playoffs but still that’s good this year won the series and they get so close I love that there so good but the Indians are so good too but I can’t believe there team is getting removed I really like the Indians it’s sad.
The talent on these two squads is insane. The Tribe Pitching Staff was underrated, but they were all right handers, and Atlanta's lefties like David Justice, Fred McGriff and other quality others got the job done. But you had Orel Hershiser the 1988 MVP and World Series MVP and 59 inning scoreless streak guy. You had Dennis El Presidente Martinez, who had a perfect game in a long and stellar career, and had just beaten Randy Johnson 1-0 to win the pennant.
Aaaaaaaaaand that puts a wrap on a look back at the '95 Major League Baseball season...! :-) I was rooting hard for the Cleveland Indians in this Series, not since 1948 had they reigned as World Series champions( still rings true even today ), they had probably the most exciting and fun team to watch throughout the season( I'm actually a Jays fan but anyone having watched all these '95 highlights knows they were terrible in '95, a far cry from winning back-to-back World Series titles in '92 & '93, the 1st of which came against.... the Braves ;-) ), and it would've been awesome to see them cap off '95 by ending their championship drought...buuuuut....the old addage rang true in this Series; dominant starting pitching getting the best of usually dominant hitting. The Braves methotically shut down Cleveland's star-studded hitters throughout the Series, though the Tribe did have their moments at the plate such as their dramatic win in Game 3 on homefield. Ultimately though the Braves needed this one badly, after coming close in both '91 & '92, the Braves seemed destined to finally end their own October struggles. And David Justice, after ruffling a few feathers back in ATL with his backhanded comments toward the fans in Georgia, smacked the Series-clinching HR in Game 6 as it turned. Nothing like totally redeeming yourself in the nick of time, eh Dave? ;-) Anyways....that was a lot of fun looking back on '95, a season that many fans have actually tried mostly to forget since it came following the fallout from the '94 strike and a lot of folks were angry towards both the players and owners & weren't afraid to hide their feelings about it....but as the season progressed, some really good things happened for baseball( Cal Ripken's Iron Man streak, the success of the Cleveland Indians, the wildcard races going right to the wire on the final day, and the Seattle Mariners' late postseason run for the 1st time in franchise history followed by their epic ALDS win over the Yankees in 5 memorable games ), & began the slow but sure process of getting the game back on track over time. Thank You very much SW561 for sharing all of this! That was kind of fun! :-D

I watched the story of the 90's Indians Dynasty That almost was. Another amazing story I never quite knew but seeing these clips puts pieces of the puzzle together
ABC⚾ - games 1, 4 & 5 NBC⚾ - games 2, 3 & 6 Sadly, this would be the only World Series that the Baseball Network (NBC/ABC) covered. However NBC continued their coverage of Major League Baseball until the 2000 ALCS. And on a side note...MLB on Fox debuted in '96 ⚾
Its a shame we didnt get a game 7. Every game was a one run game with the exception of game 4. Tom Glavine and Greg Maddux were just too great in games 1-2-6. Hershiser had a great postseason. Ryan Klesco always had an amazing bat flip. Julian Tavarez always having tantrums.
The analyst at the end said ATL pitchers phenomenal. Kept Cleveland to .179 avg. Not once did I hear that in '21 all they talked about was how bad Houston was hitting and they haven't found their groove
I was 6 when these games were played i wore my braves hat and do the chop screaming at the top of my lungs for smoltz to strike them out when they won i ran outside and screamed we won the pennant. I even tried to get my coach to change my number for the ball teams i was on to 43 so I could have my favorite braves number

He did it in just 143 games and no one else has done it since. - Cleveland lead the AL in both runs scored AND runs allowed. They scored 39 more runs than the next best offense and allowed at least 81 fewer runs than everyone except Baltimore. - The Indians played 13 games in 1995 that went to extra innings. They won all of them.

Because majority of the time their pitching weren't good. 1995 was actually their best and 1997 team over performed for the most part until Mesa does the Mesa thing in Game 7.
Then why’d he swing? Plus the strike zone looked a bit big for the Indians pitchers as well. Plus Cleveland almost hit a couple of dingers off wohlers in the 9th. They had multiple opportunities to win that game but they came short.
I was only 1 in 1995, but looking at this with my 2021 eyes, some of these errors make them look like clowns! Like, dang, the Braves had errors in every game but the last. Love 'em, though.
I love my Braves and those pitcher back in the day but man some of those strikes were a foot outside lol. Makes you wonder how pitchers then would fare today or how today's pitchers would fare then.
When lopez smoked Manny on first in game 2, I was playing catcher in little league... After practice four of us would set up with a pitcher , 1st base and a runner leading off. I'd gun guys down till their parents got there. Unfortunately in our little league rules you couldn't lead off like that... So we had to do it after practice... Never got to do it in a game
From 1994-2007, Kenny Lofton only missed the postseason twice 1994 = Cleveland was having a great season and they were in position to make the postseason (but not guaranteed that they would since many teams were involved in the AL Central and AL WIld Card), but then the strike happened and the season was canceled. 2005 = Lofton was with the Phillies this season. Phillies had a very good season, but they had a couple of heartbreaking losses in September, which made them miss the postseason just barely in the end.
I remember that Series and the win we should have had more rings I blame Bobby cox I don’t think he could manage big games because with the pitching staff we had in 90s and offense we should have had several rings

The strike zone that the Braves pitchers were given that series was absolutely egregious. Cleveland had no chance when pitches 6 inches off the plate were being called strike. Not an Indians fan at all here, BTW.

Damn that strike zone was big. Thome got hosed multiple times on pitches that were clearly outside.
Then why’d he swing? Plus the strike zone looked a bit big for the Indians pitchers as well. Plus Cleveland almost hit a couple of dingers off wohlers in the 9th. They had multiple opportunities to win that game but they came short.

I was only 1 in 1995, but looking at this with my 2021 eyes, some of these errors make them look like clowns! Like, dang, the Braves had errors in every game but the last. Love 'em, though.

When lopez smoked Manny on first in game 2, I was playing catcher in little league... After practice four of us would set up with a pitcher , 1st base and a runner leading off. I'd gun guys down till their parents got there. Unfortunately in our little league rules you couldn't lead off like that... So we had to do it after practice... Never got to do it in a game

From 1994-2007, Kenny Lofton only missed the postseason twice
1994 = Cleveland was having a great season and they were in position to make the postseason (but not guaranteed that they would since many teams were involved in the AL Central and AL WIld Card), but then the strike happened and the season was canceled.
2005 = Lofton was with the Phillies this season. Phillies had a very good season, but they had a couple of heartbreaking losses in September, which made them miss the postseason just barely in the end.

The strike zone that the Braves pitchers were given that series was absolutely egregious. Cleveland had no chance when pitches 6 inches off the plate were being called strike. Not an Indians fan at all here, BTW.
