I think the 2003 TMNT series was the perfect balance of light heartedness and seriousness. It didn't talk down to it's audience and treated it's audience with respect. Whether you're an adult or a child, you can go back to that show and still have a great time and get invested in the over arching storyline.

Turtles had 0 Motivation, barely fought AT ALL.
Looked nothing like the Turtles... More Teenage than ninja.
They put them in Highschool... Why?
It was fun to watch, however why strip them of their identity? The story is stripped too
Don't get me started on the April.
It didn't accomplish ANYTHING for the Ninja Turtles at all.

Now this is just my opinion. If you happen to agree or disagree with me, you're free to do so, friends.
What I liked about the movie: the visuals, it had a really nice show to it, visually candy to the eye,
I also like April's character and especially the scientist father of Superfly. They actually show good feelings and I actually liked how well he treated Superfly, plus. Playing baby Superfly was kinda cute.
No, what I *don't * like about the movie
I despise this take for several reasons.
1# they ultimately ruined splinter for me in this movie. He is supposed to be this calm, strict yet caring Sensei and all I see is Jackie Chan as a rat. The turtles seem to know more ninja skills than he does, and he freaking taught them.
2# are many jokes that are just not funny; Mikey twerking, April throwing up. I understand that this show was made for younger audiences, but omg, this was simply brain rot.
3 The third thing that bugged me was the characters
The personalities of the turtles were so freaking bad.
Leonardo: he is timid and follows the crowd while he's supposed to be the leader of the group, and they made me fall in love with April. As a turtle he has never fallen for a human. He should be like a human now.
Raphael: Raph is supposed to be the hot-headed muscle of the group, the serious yet grouped part of the team, yet he was not angry. He hardly had any fricks about anything.
Donatello: probably the most disappointing character other than Splinter. Donatello is supposed to be the smart gadget building strategist, and yet we get this "nerd" type of character. He did not make a good strategy until the end of the show by remembering the attack on Titan. Wor of all his fits is freaking annoying and it better fit Micky
Michelangelo : and Mickey........to be honest, there was nothing special to say about him-he wasn't fun-loving and goofy, he wasn't stupid and reckless, he was .......just there, he had more personality to me
4 the villains. I barely remember any of them because of how bland they were. Rocksteady aka the rhino is supposed to be a brute, a dumb meathead, but we get this goofy gumball. The most popular, the biggest reason why I hate this movie so much. If you don't stick to the source material, if it ain't broken, don't fix it and improve upon it. And Superfly, this "Big bad" villain was just so darn goofy, even when he became a kaiju, he was not only ugly, but.annoying, cracking joke after joke. You're the big bad villain ACT LIKE IT
      P. The Hot take of the 2014 live was ten times better than this movie.

10:08 This is above and beyond absurd. There is nothing grounding this movie, nothing that would create the illusion of the TMNT universe being real. That's what makes fiction work, there must be a certain level of logic and reality that makes the fictional world believable.
Want to know why modern entertainment lacks this specific criterion? Because it’s work. It’s harder to build a believable world than it is to slap together some awful story that lacks any cohesion.

That tells me right away that the people in charge of that movie have absolutely no idea about the characters or the history of an established brand. So, I actually sought out a review like this because I wanted to know if I was just being too harsh on it. As of today, I've seen this film twice. First was in theater's with my wife who enjoyed it, and I think to an extent blinded my opinion as we were having fun seeing it.
Now that I'm at home with my toddler's who wanted to watch it, I can honestly say my initial feelings on the movie were spot on.
It's a totally ugly mess to look at. The only saving grace is the coloring, which I feel the only thing that pulls this movie together.
To harp on just how ugly it is, Leo's attraction to April makes even less sense considering she's not cute or attractive in any conventional sense. The Turtles see people everyday, but needle- nose, overweight, pear shaped April- who's black and red headed- is JUST his niche.
It's surreal in all the wrong ways, at all the wrong times. And basically every character is almost entirely one note.
When you watch the original 90's movie, you immediately get a feel for each character. Hell, "I love bein' a turtle" is basically their mantra as it defines that they know they're different and choose to revel in it. They have an infectious optimism.
Mutant Mayham and even the Bay movies totally drop the ball on this, by showing a desire to blend among the masses. Despite the biggest draw of Tmnt being self-acceptance no matter how different you are.
You're fucking Ninja and you want to go to school of all places??
A place a majority of youth absolutely despise?
In an age where social media exists, and they somehow have color coded smartphones, it's not like they couldn't interact with people.
It just feels like they watched Rise and ripped off everything they could.
5 people worked on this script. The best they could muster was "stay at home kids ignore their single father to fight gangs, then almost join said gang."
The last 10 minutes being a wanna be Raimi Spider-Man moment where "New York comes in to help the heroes," was the most interesting part of the film. It didn't amount to any life lessons or actual character development, despite how they really try to convince you there was.
Probably the most damning thing is that it doesn't even feel like it was made for teenagers so much as the little kids they expect will watch their upcoming streaming show.
I think a key aspect to tmnt that's been missing in the movies is "bombastic personalities." These kids are not larger than life. They're barely big enough to weld the weapons they have. Glasses, braces, how about putting one in a cast? You know nothing says "heroes" like putting one in a fucking wheelchair! I'll tell ya a paraplegic Spider-Man really sold off the shelves.
Sure, I'm going overboard about it. But this crap is getting out there.
I watched two other reviews that praised the idea that, "mutant turtles with no money or access to medical help should have these thing because of representation!"
You know why we suspended our disbelief that the main characters are teenaged mutant ninja turtles? Because the story fucking explains it! Do you know how they explained Donnie's glasses? It's a 3 second moment in the corner of the screen of their origin story. He finds them, puts them on, and Splinter fails to be responsible by stopping him from ruining his eyes. Unless Mikey's is actually a retainer he found off screen, his is entirely without explanation.
In any basic writing class one of the main lessons of character design is to use their physical appearance to aid in telling their story. Avoid bloating your character's design with needless or contradictive aspects.
That translates here as: glasses=Donnie is a nerd. And braces=Mikey is gabber mouth.
The contradictions are obvious. Frankly, the first time Donnie would have tried to do a flip he would have been out a pair of glasses. But we don't see that element of the story.
The movie only wants to be grounded when the situation is awkward or trying to be funny.
The consistency truly comes across as if 5 people where in the writing room, one of which was Seth Rogan; presumably high off his ass the entire time.
Seth has produced a lot of shit in his time, some of it okay, the rest of is a sign that when he works without a leash the end result will always be garbage.
And that's what Mutant Mayham feels like.
A mediocre story surrounded by garbage.

I just finished watching this movie and I feel as if my brain had "oozed" out of my ears. It was mindless and poorly scripted with stupid punchlines and WAY too many modern references to music and film, that they got old super fast. Such a disgrace to the franchise I grew up with, I'm surprised it turned out to be as bad as I had imagined it would be and then some. 6:37 I actually liked the way they did Baxter. The one bad thing about the 2012 cartoon was the way they did Bax.
He was bullied all his life and he is just trying to stand up for himself. In the movie, he raised superfly because he never had anyone close to him, and when he died it was so sad in the movie. I think this was the one of the best ways to do stockman

Well i completely stopped watching after 20/25 minutes. Too many pop culture references, including the non stop music and the live action inserts, like they were trying to insert as many nostalgia bate as possible (yeah i get it, lets remember the 80s and 90s), the characters were annoying like a bunch a kids high on sugar rush, talking over each other all the time. I didn't like the origin story(probably the dumbest so far), which takes away the credibility to see them as ninjas, and Splinter looks and acts stupidly, and instead of an authority figure and a sensei, he is more like a goofball uncle unable to command any respect. Also didn't like that the Turtles lack any relevant ninja skills, unlike previous versions, and feel more like kids playing as ninjas, and Donnie's voice really seemed out of place. And i know all of the voice actors are around the same age, but they could have chosen a voice actor who's voice has dropped, since the actor that played Donnie clearly still sounds like a child compare to the other actors playing the other turtles. I liked the animation style, but i don't think it suits TMNT universe, and i think it distracts a lot from the action.
I really couldn't get any further into the movie since it was getting unbearably annoying and i wasn't enjoying it at all, and since i wasn't watching it with kids, and i don't need to write an official review, it felt pointless to put myself through that struggle

As a teenager, I grew up watching the original 90s movies with Secret of the Ooze being my favorite. I found it funny as a kid and I still do now. I also enjoyed nick’s version that started in 2012. I don’t see the hype with this movie I just think people (especially us) hype it up because this is supposed to represent how we act now which is pretty accurate. However, I visualize the turtles as older, strong and disciplined with a great sense of humor. I think the 90s did it the best.

I hate it too. Even the score is mediocre. The electronica should have been part of a whole orchestra. TMNT 2007 (Warner Bros., Imagi Studios) totally blows Mutant Mayhem out of the water. Not to mention that Klaus Badelt and Steve Jablonsky blow both Brian Tyler, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross out of the water as well. Those two brought life to their scores, each in their own way. Whilst I am okay with Brian Tyler, he sleepwalked and produced a generic product. As for Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, their score is ass, and at best, mediocre. What happened to the Foot Clan? I mean, it's one thing to explore the teenage aspect of the TMNT, but to throw away the ninja aspect? I mean, Donatello's voice actor in 1990 was in his late teens at the time, TBF.

Im personally more neutral on this movie.
Im a newer fan, having only Seen Rise (series and Movie, absolutely Adore both) and the 2012 series prior to this. I personally love the art style, I just hate how it looks on some characters. I may be baised for this since im not as big a fan of Raph and Mikey as I am Leo and Donnie, but I dont really like how Raph and Miikey look. Raph is... Eh and Mikeys eyes look more divorced then Usagi's. Same thing for a bunch of humans. I get what they were going for, but it just looks weird. I love how Donnie and Leo look though, especially Donnie. The Backgrounds were also really great in my opinion too
Story wise, It was fine at the beginning but kinda got worse at the end. it was the classic: Ohhh im gonna destroy the city hahah im so evil. The concept of "Milking" these teens felt kind of wrong to me, shouldve stayed a one off joke. the mutagen plotline thing didnt even have a conclusion! I feel kinda same with the puking. Hell, I dont think it shouldve been a joke at all (The puking scenes were too drawn out and made me so uncomfortable). It should have been a thing that April has to get over in order to help the turtles stop Superfly. Also, speaking of April, if you care about her race, grow up. Its been what, nearly 40 years since the og comics, and Black representation can be iffy at times in the franchise, A black April isnt causing any harm and I personally think its a great step in the right direction.
On a more positive note, I did enjoy almost every moment where Don was on screen. His voice doesnt bother me and I think it fits what they were going for. Although I do wishe he wasnt just "Anime nerd" and was more techy. The scenes were the turtles were just hanging out, having raw fun with eachother felt so real and relatable. The fight scenes were cool visually, too. I did find myself giggling at a few jokes, laughing at moments not meant for comedy, but the same occurred vise versa.
In conclusion, This movie for me is a 6/10. Plit could be improved along with a few character design, but I loved Donnie in this and had a few enjoyable and fun moments sprinkled through. Fun enough on first watch, but not enough for a rewatch

I agree with a lot of what you said, I just want to add on because i feel like nobodys talking about, what i think to be, the BIGGEST problems with the movie. Before that i would lie to mention that April being black doesn't actually go againt og tmnt lore as when the character was created laired wanted her to be irish while eastman wanted her to be black-japanese because she was baised off his black girlfriend at the time April. The coloring of the comics didnt really help either since different printings of the comics made her look like she could be either one. As for her bidy type, yeah they def did that fir brownie points with the body positivity movment, but personally that is the least of my concerns. Shedder is seen in the end credits scene, and im going to assume you haven seen any other iterations other than the ones you mentioned. But shredder is their iconic big bad, and while he is cool they didn't want another tmnt iteration to start being all about the shredder. Key word being 'start', they plan on having an animated series to follow the movie that comes out on the 26 of this month, with another movie in 2025 . Shedder is going to be the main big bad in the second movie from what ive heard. This movie was supposed to serve as an introduction in the the new iteration but it fails dramatically as a movie because it is simply uninteresting by itself. As for the turtles all being goofy and not taking their fighting seriously, that could have been done well. Rise of the tmnt is a perfect example of all the turtles being goofy and still being distinct form one another with mikey being noticably more over the top than the others. Their trianing is also done well because with the show displays their disinterest in training originally, it shows them growing as characters and eventually coming to the realization that they need to train and get better if they're going to be heros. So this could have been done well, they just didnt do it. The last point that you made that I'd like to address is them stealing groceries and toiletries. While i get your point, realistically the turtles would have to steal. They live in the sewers, the government cant know they exist, they have no money. How are they supposed to survive if they dont steal? Live off sewer water? I dont think so. Honestly i like that is showed them stealing because that would've been a great point if internal conflict within the characters. Maybe they could have had a moment talking to April where they expressed that they didnt like stealing and didnt want to do it but they had no choice. It would have helped us feel so much more for them and would have been a greeat character flaw. But ya know. The writers didnt care enough to think about that. My main problem with this movie though is that they focused way too much on 1. Being relatable 2. Attracting every age demographic and 3. Being funny. In order to make them relatable they gave leo a crush on april. The turtles having a crush on april wasn't the first time it had happened within a tmnt iteration. Donnie has a small puppy crush on her in 2003 (tho never explicitly mentioned or touched on), Don had a big crush on her in the 2012 series (absolute train reck btw), and mikey really liked her in the Michael Bay movies(which were trash). The problem is that none of these were reciced well by the majority of the audience. Now maybe people would have liked it better if if was written well and gave us a reason to like it but just like previous iterations, it doesnt. Its just a lazy way to get leo to act. Not only that but another attempt to be more relatable is to add pop culture references, which i agree, date the movie and are 9 time out of 10, just not funny. But what irks me the most is how attach on titan references washed away any semblance of of donnie being actually smart. There have been many different types of Donnies and he has been many different types of smart. however, not only does he do nothing actually smart within the movie but the one time they make it seem like he will, not only so they literally say "your the smart one, you do it" but then his solution is from attack on titan. He doesn't even think of anything, its just "well in aot they do this" and its lame. Thy they try and attract very age demographic by putting the barf and milking gags in the movie for the little kids. The pop culture references for the teens, and all the characters from the 87 series like bebop, rocksteady, leadther head, gangus frog, ect. to draw in older fans of the 87 seires. This just resulted in the movie feeling cluttered and not having enough time to actually make half of the things they added seem important in any way or just being gross. Lastly, the moive was too focused on being lighthearted and "funny", if you could even call it that, that it kept the audience from having any real emotional connection with the characters or their situation. Even when they hit their all time low, in a hopless situation where it seems like they're going to die, instead of giving us something raw and meaningful, they starting singing k-pop instead. Not only that but because of the writers focus on humor they sacrificed important time needed to make their character archs feeling impactful. The characters moment of realization is so quick and so random its hard to really feel like it mattered. And then the second they do one good thing outside of wanting to be liked, they are immediately rewarded and it just feels unearned. As humans we like to see people struggle to become better and then MAYBE earn their reward after they have changed. Not only do these characters feel indistinct from one another, they are they same exact people at the end of the movie as they are at the beginning. this is not everything i think about the movie, but its the main things if we exclude character designs. DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THEIR TERRIBLE CHARACTER DESIGNS OMG.
Also I would like to apologize if at anytime i came off as disrespectful or rude, that was not my intention.

I definitely think this is more of a generational preference issue than anything. I really enjoyed the movie, however i didn’t grow up on the old movies i grew up with the more modern cartoons in the early 2000’s. I thought it was super fun having them be just barely into their teens and i think a lot of the goofiness you didn’t like is attributed to that aspect. They’re young brothers, they act borderline exactly how I acted when i was 11-13/14. I could see how someone who was that age a little bit longer ago wouldn’t connect with those ideas or that perspective. It seems to me to be just a modern retelling, the pop culture references will definitely date it, but as for now, it’s fits in. I think you’re judging this movie far too harshly and wanting it to fit in the nostalgia covered frame that you have the old movies in. As for anyone though, this is all opinion and i absolutely respect the fact you have your own, just dropping in my 2 cents.

Maybe you have a point to this being a generational thing, but the turtles are objectively cooler when they’re actually trained by a real master for their whole lives. That would explain how they can actually take on a group of bad guys. I don’t mind the turtles goofing off and being silly at times, but in MM, it’s all the time, and they’re just not as cool in my view.

You really are brave for making this video! One thing that I really hate about this movie is how atrocious the characters look in this movie, especially April O'Neil. April O'Neil now turned into April Fools and looks like a complete Lizzo knock off. April O'Neil was my most favorite character in TMNT and they completely ruined her and felt the need to race swap her and make her overweight, only for it to cause controversy and drama. April O'Neil was never meant to be black in the first place, so I don't understand why some of these imbeciles in the comments are trying to justify this and claim that April O'Neil was "originally black". Clearly some people need to educate themselves! Not to mention that only 73% of people liked this Movie on Google, which isn't that good and on Google reviews, the movie has gotten 3.5 out of 5 stars which is still pretty bad. I knew it was going to be awful from the first trailer alone with the designs and voices. I’ve watched TMNT as a kid with the 80’s cartoon and binged watched the 2003 and 2012 shows.
Those are my turtles. Even if the 80’s were a little too goofy at times and 2012 being weird and missed opportunity with stories like Professor Honeycutt, I still love those shows.
Even Fast Forward and wished it got a “third” season to close all its plot threads before the turtles returned home.
I couldn’t get into Rise of TMNT. The CGI models of 2012 I was hesitant at first but grew to love them especially on the first episode. Rise? I didn’t like their designs (the markings on Leo’s face distracted me and Raphael being the big muscle guy) and their personalities were too similar.
I have it a try, but didn’t like the changes and April didn’t act like April. Splinter was… sheesh. Even with the full backstory I still don’t like this Splinter. Animation was amazing though.
And now this movie… never watched and listen to what people said and glad I avoided it. They changed TOO much of the lore of the TMNT.
People complain of doing the same story over and over again, but there’s way to retell the same story without butchering the characters and lore.
Look at Godzilla. When they start a new “universe” they still kept the bombing aspect of him but expand on it without losing who he is and people love that.
I can’t stand when they completely change so much. This extends to shows like the Live Action anime movies Netflix does like Cowboy Bebop and Death Note.
Fundamentally changing the characters and stories so it’s not the “same” story is never a good idea. Why do classics like Snow White, Cinderella, King Arther, Little Red Riding Hood persistent?
Because they’re good stories and people love hearing them over and over again. Even with new iterations, it never strays off and if it does people reject it.
Sorry for the long rant. I love TMNT and I hate seeing what’s it become.
I didn’t enjoy Turtles Forever as much for how they treated the 80’s Turtles and it was thanks to them that helped exploded the turtles into popularity.
    Anyway good video.

I mean I wasn't crazy about the film myself and it had problems with how they reduce all the established characters to being Superfly's cronies, especially for how Baxter is presumably dead which is stupid because there are no mousers, or anything to do with his character. Not to mention making him a loser with no friends feels like a weird backstory for him. Although you're really unjustifiably nit picky about the significance of Donnie's glasses and if he got a prescription, or how Mikey got his braces. You really want to watch a film about all that? Is that important to the plot?
The film has its artstyle deliberately ugly because the idea, if you couldn't this together since you don't need to be told, is that it looks like if a kid or a teenager drew these characters, everything is deliberately messy to give a youthful teenage feeling. I was hoping they'd actually ditch the scribbly look when they get older in the next film, and maybe be more inspired by Spider-Verse to look more comic like with the dotted lines and comic panels, just like the original comic.
And you can't really get mad about if Splinter really absorbed all of the teachings of Hamato Yoshi, sure it's very very vague and hard to interpret, and it almost feels like it's a grey area for how you don't if Splinter learnt them from him or he just learnt them then. You can complain or praise that aspect if they reveal Hamato Yoshi in the sequel because Shredder is teased to be in it. If they don't have the connection and no Hamato Yoshi, you have the right to get mad. But you can get mad two years from now.
I'm curious, have you seen other TMNT media? Like the 2007 film, 2003 show, 2012 show?

The complaint about the pop culture references making the movie dated is a little odd considering the 90s turtles say “EXCELLENT!” “COWABUNGA” and ride skateboards. You can’t tell me these aren’t super dated very 90s things. I don’t see a difference in 90s turtles liking skateboards/rock music and the modern turtles liking anime and drake
Edit: I did enjoy the movie but I also grew up with the 90s movie. The 90s vibe is supreme but things change over time, I knew there was no way this movie would be like the original movie and honestly I’m ok with that. Nobody will remember Drake 3 decades from now. Also, skateboarding is still popular. Maybe not as much as it was in the 90s but it’s still a thing. Michelangelo was skateboarding in the superior 2007 TMNT film.
In the original 1990 live action movie, there were pop culture references but they were of much more timeless classics such as the movie Rocky. Mutant Mayhem will end up in the trash can of history, as is indicated by the poor box office performance. It has no staying power and is forgettable. There will likely not be a sequel to it, and that’s a very good thing in my view.

I mean naturally, this movie was made to take a different direction.
I went into this movie also knowing that I deleted my ex knowledge as a TMNT fan and actually enjoyed it.
It’s not the original, of course not, but it focused a lot more of them growing rather than just automatically having their talents.
Leo wasn’t a leader yet, Ralph hadn’t grown with his anger, Don Hadn’t really learned his intelligence, and Mikey still hadn’t really even skateboarded yet.
The Foot wasn’t even created yet.
Either way, I liked the young Teenage vibes. Modern day TMNT. Teens actually being Teens.
As a Old school TMNT fan, I’d give it a 3/10
But as a person who’s just learning and wanted a cool experience for a movie, I give it a 8/10
It was fun mainly seeing them actually be Teens. I wanted that for a while in the franchise.

April started in the comics brown but they changed it for the cartoon.

    • @OregonPacifist
      @OregonPacifist  Рік тому +3

The initial iteration of April in TMNT #2 is not considered canon. She was firmly established as a character with the Archie comics, 1987 cartoon and 1990 film.
Even still, I would be willing to look past all that if she were at least interesting.

    • @OregonPacifist
      @OregonPacifist  Рік тому +1

Meaning for decades after that, she was different in terms of appearance. The initial iteration of the character was essentially a prototype design.

    • @alyssahansen1400
      @alyssahansen1400 Рік тому +4

I don't think that's really true. I've read the mirage comics and I think it's an (understandable) misinterpretation to think she is black or mixed race. In her first appearance she had straight hair in a style similar to the 1987 cartoon. Then in her second appearance she had straight hair up in a ponytail. You can see her with this hairstyle on an alternate cover for the second issue of volume 1 and it is colored as brown. In the first colorization of the Mirage comics by First Publishing you can see they color her hair as a reddish brown like on that cover. In one panel she is shown with blue irises, though I think this was a mistake because otherwise she is portrayed with brown irises. This was a year before the 1987 cartoon was made. The reason people think she was black or mixed race is because for most of volume 1 she has black hair with tight curls. This hair is first seen in issue 4, but she walks in and says "You like my new 'do? I got it done at the new-wave place..." So that isn't her natural hair. During the 80s a hairstyle for women was in fashion that had tight curls. You can see an example of it in the 1990 TMNT movie. It doesn't necessarily imply that she is black. April actually ends up changing her hair again near the end of volume 1, it is kept dark and curly but the curls are less tight. Consistently on covers, in the colorized graphic novels, and in Volume 2 (which was colored-not black and white) she is shown as having pale skin. That on its own doesn't necessarily imply she isn't black because some black people are light skinned, but on top of her hair I think that's reason to believe she was initially intended to be white.
The only times I remember her being portrayed as darker skinned in the Mirage comics was an issue in Tales of the TMNT volume 1, and a short story Peter Laird colored. Peter Laird has addressed this and said it was a coloring error, he didn't mean to make her skin that dark. As for the Tales of the TMNT I'm not sure why that was. I have heard it suggested it may be a tan, but I haven't heard anything official so idk. Other times Jim Lawson drew April he didn't have her darker it was just that one time.
As well there was a guest comic where she was shown as unambiguously black, but guest comics didn't conform to canon and weren't done by Mirage staff so it doesn't mean Mirage April is black. Just that there's a version of April that exists only in that one guest comic that is black. And now there is Rise and Mutant Mayhem where versions of her exist that are also black.
Btw Peter Laird (one of the co creators of TMNT) did address this to say he personally thought of her as white and of Irish ancestry, but he did say it is possible that Kevin Eastman (the other co creator) thought differently. Kevin Eastman has said the name April came from his ex wife and she was mixed race. She looks very similar to April as far as facial features and hair (the tightly curled black hair to be more specific) go, so some people say her design may have been based off of her as well. So that is reason to think that maybe Kevin Eastman thought of her as mixed race. Personally because of the reasons I've already outlined I think there's stronger reason to believe Mirage April is white, but if you want to think of her as mixed race white-passing I don't personally see how there's any harm in that.
I'm not saying it is wrong for her to be redesigned as black, personally I think gender swapping and race swapping is generally a neutral thing and I don't know why people get so mad over it. I'm just trying to correct a misconception. Because people say Mirage April is black when it's a lot more ambiguous than that, and because of her design (from her pale skin to her naturally brown straight hair), and how Peter Laird claims he thought of her as white I do think there's stronger reasons to think of her as white.
