I bought an inexpensive Nutmeg grater off a well known internet auction site. It produces the perfect powder and doesn’t make as much mess as scraping with a sharp blade
“The Works” sell a pack of neutral colours soft pastels which I have often thought would be an excellent selection of colours for weathering. They currently sell for £3 for 12.

That's a great tip, thanks.As someone else mentioned I got some natural colours for landscapes from 'The Works' and they are all earth colours.
