Long-running deconstructionist art project Royal Trux was formed in the late 80s by songwriters and former romantic partners Jennifer Herrema and Neil Hagerty. After two key early releases, Royal Trux (1988) and Twin Infinitives (1990), the band quickly established itself as a heady purveyor of lo-fi Rolling Stones’ worshipping blues rock with an avant-garde bent. The band gained notoriety not only for their unconventional music and ideas, but their uncompromising aesthetic marked by indifference and debauchery. Throughout their career, Royal Trux have deftly appropriated sounds inspired by rock history, reimagining various hallowed eras of rock and roll through a Bitches Brew approach to songwriting: “everything in the pot whether you like it or not.”
Since 2012, Look Alive Fest has provided a platform for elevating the work of experimental artists and musicians during Miami Art Week, with a focus on artists whose practice investigates the deconstruction of popular or extreme musics. Look Alive Fest is committed to providing a singular audience experience and to resisting corporate sponsorship that pervades contemporary cultural production.

That fucking drummer rules. I never thought I’d see Keith Moon’s ghost playing for RT.

As bewildering and chaotic as you'd hope Royal Trux to be. The one time I saw them, they were boring.
Gotta say, saw em for the first time at Webster Hall in NYC when they first reunited and I felt sadly let down by the show (they're my favorite band so I had really high hopes/expectations). But I saw em again about a year or two later at Market Hotel and they were totally tight as all hell and played a killer set! Everything I wanted and more!! Just wish they didn't break up again. I was so excited for that Wolf Eyes/Trux tour.
In the studio, this pair are masters of the craft. On stage, crushingly disappointing. Had the great fortune to open up for them, they were more pleasant backstage than on.

Well spotted, and the other one is playing bass on a Hofner travel guitar.
@@IanSt.George This is correct. It’s an insane setup. I got to play it once when Brian was recording my old band.
