Thanks a lot. I've never seen him this cooperative, lucid, and easy-mannered on camera before! I'd love to see him like this in a longer interview with more involved questions. But this is a treat though, so thanks again. (Tip: most people seeking interviews with Neil Hagerty already know he was in PG and know he has no special reverence for that band and proceed to cringe whenever we see a smart young journalist ask about this)
we are well aware. as you can surely tell, there was a lot of stuff going on in and out of camera during this interview. the conditions were less than optimal. maybe one day we'll tell the story behind this but for now we're ok with posting just this short clip
neil has a great sense of humor, you have to give him that. the dude in the middle during the second half of the interview is the "other guitarist" for the howling hex when they played primavera sound. i wonder where neil found him?
Naptown Tex Jesus Christ do you guys seriously not know the young guy is Daniel Blumberg. He was the singer of Yuck. The amazing uk indie rock band that kinda aped the whole 90s Dino Jr buzzy guitar sound.
The only difference between the guy in the middle (second part) and Neil is that Neil has more experience handling the high/buzz. The guy in the middle is blown out totally. But you cannot say that Neil is "lucid" -- lucid for the high, yes, but far from lucid: offered nothing really in terms of insight, stayed on topic tangentially ("we have the same booking agent"?? yay!), needed coaxing to stay on track ("yeah, we did that, played some shows...") All in all, vintage Neil with the kid in the middle tossed in as bonus prop.
That “kid in the middle” is Daniel Blumberg. He was the frontman of the awesome band Yuck before leaving after their only good album. He’s had the legends Hagerty and David Berman helping him with solo stuff in recent years.
the "kid" in question also played "lead" guitar on one of HH's european festival tours. funniest shit i've seen in awhile. if you don't think neil has a sense of humor, you're missing a big part of his personality. also...about 99% of the time, he says and does things to fuck with the press and readers, which is highly (and soberly) entertaining. in my opinion, it's a distancing technique. it also part of his mythos (and sense of humor). long live neil!
What happened to all of Neil's music outside of Royal Trux? None of it apart from Denver (which I really like) seems to be available. I think I prefer his total sellout commercial stuff because Thankyou is my favourite RT album so far and all the hardcore fans seem to denigrate that one.

Ian Svenonius - "Another real Sweetie". I chuckled!
haha he is though! we'll be posting that episode in the next few months, keep an eye out
Who was the guy in the middle of an overdose in the second part? Do we know if he's still alive?
I was wondering the same.
