As someone else in the comment section pointed out, a Tesla was parked right in front of your vehicle, which could mean the thieves might have activated its Sentry Mode that records activity around the car.

Since you’re a solo female traveler living out of your truck, I would highly recommend getting a 24 hr surveillance car/dash cam. It won’t stop it from happening but at least you’ll have something to give police and maybe catch a license plate

Place an ad in the towns' newspaper asking that they return Blue's items. No questions asked. State that he died and you want his memory sticks back. Use a P.O. Box at your parent's town. So they can check it for you. Maybe someone will return it to you. It's worth a try. I am so sorry you were ripped off. I had my car stolen years ago and that was traumatic. Plus my mom's house burned down 2 weeks after she died so I never got any personal items of hers. Luckily my sister and I had taken the photo albums months before from her house. Thinking of you. Get one of those door alarms that sound off when the door is jingled. Also Beware of Dog signs help. Sending love.

I sincerely believe that theft should be a serious crime with potentially cruel punishment. We let people slide way too easy in this country.

You missed the mark when you said this was your fault, but you nailed it when you said hindsight is 20/20. Sure, in hindsight it's easy to see things you could have done differently, and from a growth mindset perspective you can learn from that, but make no mistake about whose fault this is: this is 100% the fault of whoever intentionally broke in and took your stuff. It was not an accident; it was a crime.

The taking of your birth certificate would make me think they will try to open credit in your name. If you haven't done it already, freeze or lock your credit with the 3 credit reporting agencies. People are horrible. ☹️

Came here to say this!! Dealing with this currently from someone who hacked into my incarcerated brothers accounts, wrote themselves checks from my brother's accounts, and tried to open credit cards in his name.
It's good you filed a police report - keep the case number handy and call any banking institutions you use that may have had account info accessed (routing numbers, check books), call the big credit companies and have them freeze your credit, and keep in touch with the police department in the jurisdiction where this happened! Weekly if possible, they may have updates with newly found footage or reports of your items being resold online or in pawn shops. Also on that note, call local pawn shops in the area and notify them what items were stolen from you so that they will be aware if they see those items come into their stores.
I'm so sorry this happened, and I'm so sorry you had to go through losing Blue again. I lost my soul cat to cancer February 29th this year and the grief is still so fresh. I still lose my composure every few days. I can't imagine losing the photos and videos I have of him. I pray that your grief can eventually soften and that you'll at least get your memories of him back somehow ❤
Yes, alert the credit companies. I had my identity stolen, and it's tough to prove that you didn't open those accounts or give anyone permission to do so. I was the victim, but I got treated like I was the one who did the crime.🙄
They may also be able to get a Social Security number in your name

So sorry, people have no respect for the 10 commandments. I Also had priceless items stolen from my van when in a hotel parking lot, even though it ment nothing to the thief. Don’t kick yourself about the insurance, they would have found a way not to pay anyway and you would be that much more behind for paying the premiums.
They didn’t take the passport because it has your picture, but your birth certificate is worrisome. You might want to monitor your credit reports.

Hey Ria! @roamingreckless I hope you see this. Please please please take a few days and go to pawn shops around the area, or any area with many pawn shops. You might have to drive all over NJ. I am from NJ and when I lived in Long Branch, my apartment was broken into and all my jewelry was stolen, including my mother’s favorite ring. I was devastated. Someone gave me the advice to look in pawn shops. On the 3rd pawn shop I went to in Long branch (Shelly’s Jewelers), I found some of my stuff. Unfortunately never found everything but was able to find a few sentimental items. Also, criminals are stupid. After calling the cops and cops speaking to Shelly, she said she knows who she bought the jewelry from and he had left his watch there for repair. When the store called him to pick up the watch, the police arrested him and he was put in jail. Do some leg work, have faith, and stay calm. I’m so sorry this happened to you. ❤

I shouted out my truck window and pointed yesterday, "THAT'S POE! That's my favorite UA-camr!" when I was running errands and my five year old said, "Congrats, Mama." 😂

I've had this happen to me multiple times throughout the years. It's one of the most violating experiences. To think that instead of working for your things, someone just wants to skip the effort and take yours. Make sure your car insurance covers the items inside your car. We can replace tangible items, but I really hope whomever reaps what they sow ten times forward for the items that you can't replace. My brother uses 360 cameras that send pings to his phone in real time whenever someone may bump his loads or his truck (long distance truck driver with expensive loads). I hate this happened to you, and I know you have the resilience to be stronger because of it. 💙
The old Defender is one of the most unsecure vehicles anyone might drive. You minimally need, window locks, door dead locks, an ignition isolator, and an alarm system, and I'd suggest a structural safe.

Any cars remarkably insecure. The things you mentioned would have prevented the truck from being driven off and given it's not like a Tesla or Porsche or something I think there's a little chance of that. So the suggestion would have done nothing to prevent the theft of the items inside the truck

I read they just evicted with an 60-day notice 40,000 illegals from the NY area (I can't remember which city they stated). This means no more FREE ride in the U.S.
Ria, regarding your flea + tick purchase for Taz- I had to let you know my own German shepherd mix pup ended up in the hospital for 4 days + was diagnosed with AHDS after using a very similar “natural” spray. They contain lemongrass oil, which can be toxic to dogs and for some, cause very life threatening symptoms. I’ve worked in the pet industry for five years and still made this mistake. The BEST option will always be an oral flea prevention medication. I learned my lesson and never want any pups to go through what mine did so I have to spread the word. He is ABSOLUTELY my soul dog and I hug him extra tight now. I’m sorry about the break in, sending love to you and Taz!!

If this vehicle has a window cracked and that vehicle doesn’t, they’ll skip the one with widows up. If this car has things laying around on the seat or dashboard and that one doesn’t, they’ll skip the one with nothing apparently in it. It’s that simple. Again I am SO sorry this happened. It means a great deal to me that you share your feelings (without oversharing) about losing Blue twice. Sharing our experiences of the good AND the heartbreak in life is what helps us feel a sense of connection. I appreciate that. And I think for many people it isn’t easy sharing about the unpleasant things. Especially the devastation of the loss of a dog. I really admire your courage.
Unfortunately I know the feeling, my wife and I had over $5000 worth of stuff taken after they broke into our suv at noon on Christmas Day in downtown Portland. We had just arrived and drove downtown for lunch and that’s when it happened. The cops basically said it happens all the time and they’ll probably never catch the tweakers. I feel your pain. I hope this helps and I hope this doesn’t discourage you from continuing your 50 state road trip. Love your videos and you just keep being you! Time will never let you forget Blue but time will let you forget this.

It may help to check local pawn shops. Ultimately, most of the stolen gear will be pawned.
I do not know if you did so, but I always suggest having a notepad with all make, model, and serial numbers for all your gear. The police can track that stuff when it is pawned.

As someone also living full time in a vehicle I can imagine how awful this must be to go through. I'm sorry you lost that footage, I know you still have the memories but it still helps to have pictures of lost loved ones to ease the grief.. I have nothing to even be able to donate, but I found out watching the ads all the way through gains you more $ (if that's true) so I can at least do that. We grow & learn everyday

Definitely check out local thrift stores in your area for items that were immediately pawned. That's standard around where I live and they are just trying to get cash and get rid of the evidence as fast and possible. Police will be able to get the ID"s from the thrift store. Happened with a gold necklace from a doctor recently.

Tesla drivers are scum I tried to get someone to pull footage 4 separate times in San Francisco to help other people that were either Robbed or gotten their car stolen and they all said no and left

@@bjosh01 I'm glad. But what I'm saying is that she should keep it on her at all times, especially being a solo female traveler living out of a vehicle. And especially when going to states that aren't pew pew friendly. Personally, being a woman who is the same age as Maria, I would not have traveled to a state like NJ or NY, especially because I wouldn't feel comfortable leaving my rig out of my sight knowing that all of my possessions are in there. Crime rates are up. Hostilities are up. And that's just a reality that we have to face. America is not safe anymore. It's no longer the country that grew up in. I mean, San Francisco anyone? People leave their car doors open, their windows down and they leave behind notes stating that the vehicle is open and that there's nothing in there worth taking or busting a window over. If the government and these people don't have our best interest at heart, then we need to act accordingly.

As a parent and retired Police Officer, stay very connected to your parents for the next week or so, I know you are a big girl, but I can assure you that your father is worried sick right now. He seems like he would give just about anything for this to all go away. Grieve for this, learn from this - but above all stay the course. Oh, and tell your Dad you love him just one more time today.

It looked like a big parking lot next to a trash hotel. If she’s trying to tuck it out-of-the-way that also means it conceals what might be happening to it. Where and how you park can play a factor.
They probably did and recorded the break-in to post on social media for likes rather than call the cops.
Unfortunately people in big cities mind their own business and don't get involved....safer that way, sadly. 😢
Without a smashed window. How would a passer by know the difference between a thief looking for stuf to steal & the owner doing normal stuff in the van. Also how long do think it took to commit the crime, not long!

The alarm in my van sends me alerts directly to my phone. If I remember correctly the brand is Compustar & the phone app is Drone mobile. I get alerts for shock sensor, door or hood opened - alarm goes off. If the vehicle is stolen, I can track it. Even if it is not stolen -- someone is borrowing it - I can see the location on the app. I can monitor ambient temp inside the vehicle, battery voltage & remote start all very convenient if you have a pet in the hot summer. Mine was professionally installed. I highly recommend you get something similar with phone access & alerts.
