I highly recommend seeing them in concert. I have been a fan since the beginning. As amazing as they are in studio you haven't lived until you have seen Punch in concert. ❤️
Jessica Borda I agree with this. I recently saw them and a few other extremely talented musicians on the American acoustic tour and it was an incredible experience
And here we have it ladies and gentleman, the result of a group of musicians that understand and comprehend the art of playing to compliment the song, not just to be heard. Truly magnificent!
Unbelievable. I’ll take all the ads and BS forever if the internet promises to keep delivering gems like this. I was having a cruddy day and after this can’t even remember why. Thank you. :)
+filteredcreativity A lot of acoustic bands try to avoid playing in settings like this because of issues in sound quality. Obviously the acoustics in an outside open place like this aren't great, which means there's less reverb, which means it's harder to play because no matter how good you play, you still won't be completely satisfied with the sound quality (it's a LOT easier to play when you like the sound you are getting (ie in concert hall, parking structure, stairwell, anywhere where you get natural acoustic reverb.) Everything sounds less deep and exciting in an open outside setting, there was likely reverb added digitally after the initial audio was recorded to make it sound the way it does. Not that they shouldn't do more outdoor videos, i'm just explaining why a lot of bands like this try to avoid playing in settings like this. There are a lot of outdoor settings with GREAT acoustics (check out Thile and Meyer's "Why Only One?" video.)
The biggest problem with these kinds of setups is being able to properly mic EVERY instrument. There's some key parts that you can't here in this session that are properly recorded in studio sessions.
It's all part of the plan I'll have 'em eating out of my hand I'll have 'em eating out of my hand Inside a week The devil's lost his way He's getting weaker every day He's getting weaker every day He thought he'd thought of something to say Said it 'til he was blue in the face I think I'm free 'Cause I'm in charge now and he isn't And it isn't anybody's business but mine Everybody's business is mine And I've been doing just as I please Since I found my skeleton key God I love my skeleton key You'll never guess who sold it to me How much I bought it for but believe me Buddy I got a hell of a deal A hell of a deal The struggle is fake The triumph is real You can never get the best of What you can never get enough of This is all part of the plan Look I'm a god more than a man Now I'm a god I don't give a damn about my soul So if I sign it away in blood So I can scare the world into loving me And I scare the world into loving me I'll have turned nothing into something and buddy If you think I look rough you should see the fool on the other end of the deal (You can never get the best of what you can never get enough of) Write me a law and I'll rise above And give me hell and I'll make a hell of a deal A hell of a deal The torment is fake The glory is real
The quality of musicianship and performance here is freakishly high. Replay button is now broken.
LOL
It's revealed! Paul Kowert is god of sun and bass, because he has sun instead of his head. I knew that no human can play bass as he does.

I can verify!

Agreed, they are incredible live! But DON'T GO to a seated show. I wanted to dance around and had to settle for boogie-ing in my seat.
And here we have it ladies and gentleman, the result of a group of musicians that understand and comprehend the art of playing to compliment the song, not just to be heard. Truly magnificent!
Punch brothers on the bluegrass situation. I thought I'd never see it. I'd reallt like to see these guys in concert.
Unbelievable. I’ll take all the ads and BS forever if the internet promises to keep delivering gems like this. I was having a cruddy day and after this can’t even remember why. Thank you. :)
Every time Chris lands a solo he looks like, "Oh, shit...did that just happen?" lol
hahahaha
If this proved anything it's that Punch Brothers needs to do more outdoor music videos, kind of like Young the Giant's 'In the Open' series.

A friend of mine introduced me to this song/group about a month ago, and I've been playing this video repeatedly ever since. Amazing! ❤

Epic
It's all part of the plan
I'll have 'em eating out of my hand
I'll have 'em eating out of my hand
Inside a week
The devil's lost his way
He's getting weaker every day
He's getting weaker every day
He thought he'd thought of something to say
Said it 'til he was blue in the face
I think I'm free
'Cause I'm in charge now and he isn't
And it isn't anybody's business but mine
Everybody's business is mine
And I've been doing just as I please
Since I found my skeleton key
God I love my skeleton key
You'll never guess who sold it to me
How much I bought it for but believe me
Buddy I got a hell of a deal
A hell of a deal
The struggle is fake
The triumph is real
You can never get the best of
What you can never get enough of
This is all part of the plan
Look I'm a god more than a man
Now I'm a god I don't give a damn about my soul
So if I sign it away in blood
So I can scare the world into loving me
And I scare the world into loving me
I'll have turned nothing into something and buddy
If you think I look rough you should see the fool on the other end of the deal
(You can never get the best of what you can never get enough of)
Write me a law and I'll rise above
And give me hell and I'll make a hell of a deal
A hell of a deal
The torment is fake
The glory is real
Sounds cool at speed 1.25
Chris Thile is a genius, but he also looks like Gollum in this video 2:39
Unbelieveable good sound and video!!! Does anybody know where i can find the second part of the lyrics? I cant get them inbetween 5:00 and 6:25.
hopefully this helps!

That banjo tho...
Tell me where i can find some good ol' hillbilly bluegrass or mountain music? Old or new... I want something real hillbilly...
LionHead914 try "Earls Breakdown" or "Cripple Creek" and "Dueling Banjos"
Is this song about defying god?
How the F can anyone down vote this? Deaf?
The only thing bluegrass about this is the instruments. Not bluegrass music at all.

The worst????? WHAT?!?!?!
