    I've heard that new tattooers either overwork the skin or they work very lightly on the skin. I am tattooing with the handpoke method after i tried with a machine and i love it. I'm on the procces of learning and be patient. Luckily people that i know are willing to come and get tattoos from me even though they know i'm a beginner and they are trying to help in a way!?!?
    Also i overworked my skin and saw the results and kind of starting to know what to avoid and stuff. Love your vids guys

    I'm a tattoo apprentice and last saturday I made my first tattoo on a friend. It was my first time using the tattoo machine and the lines were very wonky :( Probably because I was nervous and was trying to figure out everything. Don't worry, the tattoo ended up fine because the guys in the shop fixed it and my friend is very happy (and still my friend haha). How can I practice without ruining my friends skins until i get a little better or is it the only way to learn? Appreciate your videos, keep them coming! Greetings from Argentina :)

      +marchingclocks you can abuse some innocent fruits or fake skin to get the feel of a machine but tattoo your friends all you can while they are up for it. And don't forget the drawing the drawing part.
      It's good that there's people who can fix your errors and hopefully explain what and why went not the way as expected

    • @marchingclocks
      @marchingclocks 6 років тому +2

      Yeah, I think I'll buy a machine of my own and practice at home with some fruits. Of course never forgetting the drawing part! I've been on the shop for a couple of months now only drawing, doing tattoo flash paintings and helping around, I'll keep drawing until I feel confident to tattoo again. My friends are up for it, I think I worry a lot because I want to be responsible haha. Thanks so much for the answer!

      You can do as Tattoo Shop Talk suggests and practice on fruits and whatnot but there really is no replacement for actual skin. Start with very small simple designs. I started with small skulls and roses as it's easy to hide imperfections with those designs (they can be more loose than say...lettering), and focus on the basics. Just a basic solid line work and good shading. Your own thighs will become your best friends and mentors. Show me a tattooer and I'll show you someone that has/had shitty beginner tattoos on their thighs. Best of luck.

    I love your videos. You guys are chill and funny as fuck. I am 46 and have been drawing and painting since I was a kid. I have always loved tattoos, but just recently realized I would love to be a tattoist. I bought some equipment and rebuilt/upgraded everything I can and just started on practice skins. I love the mechanical/electrical aspect of tattoing as well as the actual art of tattoing itself. I am giving myself 10 years to learn so when I retire from my job I can do something I love. I have been learning everything I can from hygiene to aftercare and will be my own first canvas when the time comes. Do you think it is a bad thing to try to learn on my own over the next 10 years? Thanks for any input.
    BTW, Is your shop in Denmark? I live in Germany so I might have to come and get some work done.

    • @TattooShopTalk

      If you have set your goal for 10 years then you will be fine. Learning on your own is the hard way but in 10 years you might get all sorts of options to learn.
      Yes we are in good old Denmark 🙂

    Starting tattooing before a person can actually draw.. Do NOT learn to draw with a tattoo machine on human skin...
    Paper first and then take up the tattoo machine and do it on fake skin and then your own or your friends...

    you say to not worry about devoloping your own style, but i have trouble trying to even come up with something to draw. what do you suggest i do? Do I wait for someone to tell me what they want tattooed?, Do i tattoo only my drawings, i feel a bit lost in the sauce, an artists block

    • @TattooShopTalk
      @TattooShopTalk  6 років тому +3

      Then don't worry about it. Do classics in traditional or whatever is your thing. Practice realistic if it is more you. Most of the time customers ask for what they want unless you are some big time artist.

    • @joshm9163
      @joshm9163 5 років тому +1

      Your own style is irrelevant at this point. Don't put the cart before the horse. Practice classic designs. Anchors, roses, skulls, swallows, etc.

    I tattooed my first buttcheek the other day (my third tattoo ever) and it was so difficult, wobbly and a really small needle (05) didn't help. The lines were not precise, but my first 2 tattoos and the fourth one were not imprecise at all. Would you recommend doing stuff with bigger needles first and then after some practice trying smaller ones or the other way around?

    • @TattooShopTalk
      @TattooShopTalk  5 років тому +1

      In my opinion you should practice all needle groupings. Bigger needles is sort of easier and you can see less of a wobble but you have to understand what are you doing. Buttcheek is also not easiest place to tattoo. The precision part is questionable on first tattoos... On other hand my first tattoo on myself was better than next 10 😀

      @@TattooShopTalk Thanks for replying! Of course I'm saying "precise" from the point of view of someone who never did a tattoo before 😅😂 I've seen worse from people who owns a shop anyways 🤦🏻‍♀️

    • @TattooShopTalk
      @TattooShopTalk  6 років тому +2

      +Priincess Ninjaunicorn I'm not sure what's the trouble there. Good light is helpful then make sure it's not all shiny, check that there is no mess on background or use lens that will blur out background and shoot. If you post it on Instagram then don't go crazy with filters because then it might look that you are trying to hide something
