I started eating keto a couple of months ago. I completely cut out sugar, refined/processed foods, starchy foods. Admittedly I've made a few mistakes. But one thing that I noticed, and it kind of dawned on me, is that almost all of the aches and pains in my body disappeared! Prior to that, I told my doctor that I thought I had fibromyalgia - I had widespread pain in my body. Sometimes I struggled to get out of my car. She ordered some blood tests and nothing abnormal showed up. Anyway, I no longer need to take any analgesics. A direct result of quitting sugar.
I lost 100 lbs eating a no sugar diet. I stuck to it for ten years! Not a bite of sugar. Dr. Sherry Roger's in Syracuse, NY helped me understand that sugar is poison way back in 1986. She was one of the first practitioners to understand this and helped thousands.
Today I watched my diabetic mother in law in one sitting drink a glass of orange juice, eat a Madeline …it’s a bread cookie, a cup of ice cream. Earlier in the day she was telling me about a homemade tonic for diabetes, she looked at me as if I were three headed when I said what’s good for diabetes is not eating sugar
Ikr! I worked w/a diabetic & overweight woman. She was a "good Southern cook". Always bragged about how her mom made dessert with dinner e every night! Well, she & all of her siblings have diabetes. Some of her siblings have already had toes amputated. Yet, she still eats lots of carbs & sugar!! Example breakfast: large glass of OJ, homemade biscuits w/homemade jelly!! That's sugar, sugar and sugar!!!😬😳 smh🤯
I quit sugar, starch, grains and most fruit October 11th. I weighted 200 lbs and as of today 1 December I weight 173 lbs. i eat two meals a day med day and evening so i intermittent fast from 7pm until noon the following day. Only drink coffee with heavy cream in the AM. One hour of cardio/weights 5 days a week. Off blood pressure med , no longer on any meds and im not hungry all the time now that the sugar, statch, etc is gone. Why i made the change is my recent blood work indicates pre diabetes and i had been having the early symptoms.

I quit eating sugar 3 months ago. My A1C went from 12 to 7.8 the first three months. Haven’t been below 8.5 in 20 years. I now understand how to lose weight and get out of Type II. I am currently on a carnivore diet and thinking of switching to ketovore. I just finished reading the book “End your Carb Confusion.” I am ready to follow that Keto plan now. Very well written.
I loved oranges & watermelon. Stopped eating them in June 2021 when I jumped into Keto from a reduced carb diet. Since then I have lost 49 pounds at the age of 60. I have never been diagnosed as pre-diabetic, but I had a baseline A1C test done and it was 5.8, so I have some work to do. My weight plateaued in later summer, so I decided to start tracking total carbs vs net carbs. It was eye opening where I was eating more carbs than I thought. When my carb intake went up, my calories dropped, fat consumption dropped to less than recommended and my weight loss slowed. When I dropped the carbs, both my fat/protein intake went up, hunger/cravings went away, and my weight loss pace increased. That said, I no longer miss eating oranges as long as I can eat a salad or have non-starchy vegetables from time to time. Your taste buds do indeed change which is a good thing!
I agree. I have just clocked over a year on low carb/keto diet and I feel that my entire palette and taste buds have re wired. Because we are allowed berries I still eat them but always with cream to dampen the insulin response! maybe a few too many! As far as bread pasta rice biscuits cake etc I do not miss them at all and I see them as a scourge. I am seeing my 82 year old mother slipping quickly into dementia and it seems all she eats is sugary fruit and sugared beverages and carbs! Both her and my father won't accept or comprehend this revolution and it pains me to see them suffering and all their ailments I think come from their diet!
What a great comment! Do you know if spaghetti squash, or acorn squash are okay to eat? I'm eating carnivore, but I really love some veggies once in a while! Thank you for any advice. 🙏
@@moparmissile Thank you for your heart felt comments in remark to my post. My mom is 83 and is very worried about dementia and tends to snack on too many carbs including sweets. She loves what I have done, but is still of the the mindset that eating low carb/high fat is dangerous or will cause her to gain weight! My mom simply doesn't want to hear about the details of my KETO/Intermittent fasting regime as eating the SAD for decades, here brain is incorrectly wired to accept this revolution just like your folks! It is sad, but true! My husband who is 14 years older than me is just like your mom and has fog brain and is lethargic much of the time due to his diet. He truly is a sugar/carb addict and I am doing all I can to turn his thinking around! The one thing you can try is organic MCT oil for your parents. I told my mom about it in that it helps with cognitive ability and mental decline. She bought some (I bought it for her) and she adds a tsp or two to her morning coffee in hopes that it will help. I told her to be patient that it takes time to actually work. I occasionally take it myself in that I find it helps with keeping me cleaned out and the mental clarity seems to be better too. I don't always use it, only when I need to extend a fast and the MCT oil (I only use a tsp in my coffee) works like a charm. Good luck and I hope this helps!
@@katrinalalonde7842 Thank you! What started to be a weight loss diet has become a way of life. I have never felt better and losing (50 pounds as of now) didn't seem all that hard! The last time I lost this much (12 years ago), I was following a vegan/vegetarian diet and worked out on a 10 inch step 45 minutes EVERYDAY! That was so much harder than the Keto/IF solution. My exercise is now whatever needs done (shopping, mowing the lawn, other yard work, sourcing for my business, etc) and I love that practical exercise fits right in with my overall Keto lifestyle.
I stopped eating sugar and started the Keto way of eating - result is I lost 10kg in 5 weeks - it’s amazing where sugar is found and the quantities you find it - now I have less aches and pains and no cravings - thanks to all the Drs and others on UA-cam who make this information available -
I have been managing my T2D for 24 years since diagnosed at age 40 with very low carb/keto. Atkins then. I got to thank Dr Westman in person for his contribution to Atkins work when he came to Low Carb Houston in 2019.
Both my sister's are diabetic & eat whatever & take both pills & shots. I was diagnosed prediabetes & choose to let go of the sugar & not medicate. They both use walkers & the youngest has to use a wheelchair sometimes. I am thankful that I am able to walk. Go Keto 🤓

When walking through the grocery store the other day I noticed so many packaged processed sugar piles in bags lol It was an eye opening experience as my wife typically goes to the store so I was paying attention as I walked through.
My migraines stay away when I cut out sugar and stay low like 20g or so of carbs. Sugar was really and still is really hard to stay away from, but I'm learning my tolerances so I can still sneak in something sweet... But like he says do it not every day just like once in a blue moon!!!! Thanks it's good to understand the mechanics behind the reasons!😁✌👍
Started a keto diet in September 2021 with cheating once in awhile (mostly weekends). It is now June 2022 and I have lost 70 pounds and still going. My A1c went from 6.3 in September to 5.8 with a high fasting glucose level in December and 5.5 with a normal fasting glucose in May. I eat more food than I have ever eaten but all veggies and meat with some fat (e.g., avocados, butter, cheese, blue cheese dressing).
I remember when I used to eat sugary cereal back in the 70s and 80s. On one box, I think it was Captain Crunch, it compared the sugar in one bowl of cereal to 1 apple, showing an apple had more sugar. Fool that I was, I assumed that meant cereal was okay to eat. Of course, the lack of fiber wasn't mentioned, nor was it mentioned that eating an apple maybe wasn't quite the health food I had been lead to believe.
Such a good video. Before changing my diet to keto, I didn’t think of starches (potatoes, bread, rice, etc..) as sugar! I also love the idea that it isn’t optimal to keep raising the blood sugar and insulin. I can attest to this, even with intense exercise. My body responds significantly better without ingesting too many carbs. The lower they are, the better I feel and perform.
And, you cannot eat yourself into an underweight state on Keto Eating. I went from 245 to 185, and continued 20 carbs or less per day, and that was two years ago, and I still cannot get under 185 pounds. My body is at it's optimum weight and performance level for a 62 year old.
I am s type 1 diabetic adult onset and my endocrinologist suggests i not fast but eat 3 meals a day take 3 units insulin before each meal and 12 units at night. I am so confused what to eat - she suggests oatmeal and wheat crackers those things would not work for me she wants me to lower my cholesterol and then I listen to Dr ken Berry about controversy with LDL. Dr west do you have things for me to read or watch? I have eaten low carb for 5 years lost and maintained my weight. Now insulin causing some weight gain.

I've tried this little hack and it actually works. When you get a sugar craving, eat a pinch of salt. Another Dr. I follow says when you get a sugar craving its actually your body telling you you need some salt. It sounds crazy but it actually works for me. It has helped me stay away from chocolate doughnuts!
Sugar is not sugar. What's commonly refered to as "sugar" is either sucrose or a mixture of fructose and glucose. Sucrose metabolizes as a mixture of fructose and glucose so those are virually all the same. This is what makes you ill in the first place. This is not to be confused with glucose or starches (which will get broken down to glucose by the body) which is the same substance as "blood sugar". This in itself is less dangerous to the health but it is not completely benign either.
After several failed diets ...I have found low carb has been the ONLY change that has worked ...Over 50lb lower weigh now and feeling much better. Now off all my meds ... PLUS....There is a real hidden bonus here...... nobody seems to mention!!!! The biggest benefit is if you maybe go on holiday and eat some carbs, gain weight ( as I did on a cruise for a week ...15lb.no less ) Then reverting back, the weight just dropped back off quickly ...unlike before on a calorie restriction diet ... I find I'm better now at switching from sugar burning to fat burning living on a low carb diet.... I'm in full control ... It's not how much you eat I find ...it's how OFTEN you eat with just good fats, protein and plenty of fibre ..to stop the insulin spikes and the opportunity for you're body to store the fat ... it's really simple when you work it out ...No snacking at all and your done.... I'm 64 now and feel like I'm a new person ....ok...it doesn't work for everyone ...but I'm glad it has for me .... Thanks ... for a great video guys.... well explained Keith ..UK ..

I lost weight doing low carb but gained it all back on with interest felt tired angry all the time it was awful.now I've read that eating meat spickes your insulin your body start turning meat you eat into sugar I no loads of slim people eat loads of high carb foods their slim I sint get it I'm fat eating low carb their slim its confusing
I become hypomanic, insomniac and aggressive on these diets. I also pass out from low blood sugar. It's not for everyone regardless of what internet doctor's say.
(Harry here) yeah, SUGAR, the downfall of my belly. That was the hardest thing to do but we did it. I haven't intentionally had any sugar for the past year. I would hate to see what would happen if I ate a Candy Bar or had a real coke. I think it would be ugly.
Wow, that's incredible- I've struggled with staying in ketosis, it seems as I get to day 2 or 3, with 0 carbohydrates- something happens, & I feel like an addiction takes over, & I eat some sugar/carb..? I'm wondering how I'll EVER stop this. Why do I need (think I need!) to consume the carbohydrates!?

I had horrible cravings I had to eat once I went low carb all is good.you need to be aware that you need to keep up your sodium and potassium and minerals or you will feel like crap e.g.. GREAT episode (again!!!) thank you! PLS consider a future episode on thermal effect (body's core temperature) and how it plays out on "fast/slow" metabolism and/or fat burning. For 10s of thousands of years my ancestors ate fruit rarely only in the fall when temperatures rose seasonally. Counter intuitively; I have a "faster" metabolism in summer when I sleep 10 hrs in air-conditioning with my feet and hands exposed to the frigid air (my partner needs it cold to sleep) while my head and core trunk are wrapped in a blanket. My guess is that fat burning is accelerated during sleep because the body has to keep pumping blood between frigid extremities and warm core for hours at a time. I know in the 90s Stanford Sports Medicine Research found extreme fast cooling of athlete's hands kept their core temps (even DECIMALS of a degree cooler) and measurable positive effects on endurance and speed in extreme summer heat. You went to STANFORD, what do they put in water in the Palo Alto water that spawns so many cutting edge scientists??!! lol ; )
@@thecrazylineman68 ...interesting that your blood glucose went down 30mg/dL after consuming an apple, cottage cheese, pork rinds, and blueberries. What was your blood glucose number before eating? Also, I would like to hear about your tests with just an apple or just a boiled potato. Strange to me, my fasting blood glucose is always around 100mg/dL, give or take 10 points. Yet, my A1c has always been good and is stable, 4.5 to 4.8%. Not complaining. I just find it odd. My GP did not recommend that I go lowcarb. He was mouthing the paradigm generically, 'fats will kill you.' Then I found Dr Westman. Whom I told my GP about. Which seemed to thoroughly piss him off. That's the difference between God and a doctor. God doesn't believe he is a doctor. Anyways, I could never lose weight without eating low carb (never really full on keto, more like Atkins) and eventually including intermittent fasting, 20-22 consecutive hours per day of no food and 2-4 hours per day of low carb. Essentially 1 meal per day. Thank you Dr Fung. Today, I'm back to my high-school playing weight, without the muscle mass. Without the muscle mass, I probably should lose another 15 or 20 lbs. That or weight train again. Now, after two years, I have started eating small quantities fruit and very small quantities of root vegetables occasionally. Still losing weight, though. I guess that I am going to copy you and purchase a blood glucose meter. Start sticking myself. I hate that. I don't mind blood draws at all. But, I hate jabbing my fingers. @@tmcche7881 Awesome to hear others getting healthy. I am lighter now at 27, than I was in middle school. I ate 180 grams of apple on its own an hour and 20 minutes ago and saw zero glucose response checking every 20 minutes. Some stuff spikes real fast and others take 60-90 minutes. My fasting glucose is between 90-100. I hate promoting walmart, but they carry Relion premier which is the best deal. the test strips are only 18 cents a piece and widely available if you have a local walmart. I have obssesed a little over the a1c and glucose, but was reminded I am doing alright when a coworker was admitted to hospital with glucose over 400!!! I would be happy with a 4.8 and 100 if I were you. My a1c is ~5.4. Could be lower, but much much better than the past 2.5 decades.
It’s been 12 hours since I last ate, I had an omelette with chorizo. 2 1/2 hours ago I had a cup of black coffee. I checked my sugar and it was 110. My fasting level when I’m tested at a lab is always in the high 90’s. I don’t understand why my level is never less. I don’t eat sugar I do low carb mostly from veggies
I am very addicted to chocolate, it's definitely my biggest downfall. I also LOVE potatoes. I always feel like I need to eat something sweet after a meal. Maybe I need to get a mint or hard liquorice afterwards to stop the craving 😩
From a fellow Chocolate junky: If you like cold brew coffee and sparkling water (carbonated mineral water is even better), try doing this: Fill large glass or mug with ice, add 2 ounces of cold brew coffee and top with TOPO CHICO or some other carbonated water, or mineral water. Stir. It tastes oddly like dark chocolate to me. I also was addicted to chocolate. I probably still am but all sweets of any kind kept the craving for chocolate alive in me so I have nothing that tastes sweet in my diet. Maybe this is why the drink seems oddly sweet enough to keep me hydrated while staving off the need for chocolate. The Cold Brew I use is called Organic Chamelon Cold Brew Concentrate. It is delicious. I also make my own decaf concentrate and after it cools I can enjoy one in the evenings while watching TV. Hope this helps you.
Sounds like your addicted to the habit of something sweet after dinner. Our head tells us we ‘need’ something else whereas in reality if you have eaten a proper nutritious meal - with plenty of protein , you will be satisfied. I also love chocolate and about 3 times a week I will have 1 square of 90% dark chocolate (Lyndt brand ) after dinner and if I think I want another square I wait a bit and consider ‘ am I satisfied’. 9 times out of 10 the answer is I don’t need the second piece, it is just my unconscious habit part of my brain telling lies!
I am desperate I can't find the answer to my situation. I am 75 year old. I followed low carb for years and about 11 years ago went keto. Currently I walk 30 mins a day eat only 10 carbs a day in two meals. I appear healthy but my morning blood glucose today was 14.3 mmol or 258 mgdl. and it will be so slow to go down never very far. I understand this could be adaptive glucose sparing but it frightens me it is so high. I also think since I have been vaccinated for Covid it has raised my blood sugar, It has always been high even on insulin - which I stopped in 2016 but not so much as the last several months. I don't want to go on insulin which my doctor would probably want to do as it doesn't make sense to me to put more insulin when want I have isn't being used. I really don't know how to manage this. BTW fasting does not lower bg or exercise. Nothing seems to work.
I respectfully disagree with the no sugar approach. Our brain runs on sugar, I have done vegan keto for years. Tons of oil tons of avocado tons of nuts… it did not serve me well.
Hi Ryan, our brains transition to running on ketones in the absence of sugar. In animal studies, mitochondrial efficacy improves when the brain used ketones. Lastly, even if sugar is eliminated, our body still makes glucose for the brain in the process of gluconeogenesis

I eat more food than I have ever eaten but all veggies and meat with some fat (e.g., avocados, butter, cheese, blue cheese dressing).
I remember when I used to eat sugary cereal back in the 70s and 80s. On one box, I think it was Captain Crunch, it compared the sugar in one bowl of cereal to 1 apple, showing an apple had more sugar. Fool that I was, I assumed that meant cereal was okay to eat. Of course, the lack of fiber wasn't mentioned, nor was it mentioned that eating an apple maybe wasn't quite the health food I had been lead to believe.
Just stopped eating sugar 2 weeks ago (again).
It is a battle......

I am getting back on track it has been a rough year
Such a good video. Before changing my diet to keto, I didn’t think of starches (potatoes, bread, rice, etc..) as sugar! I also love the idea that it isn’t optimal to keep raising the blood sugar and insulin. I can attest to this, even with intense exercise. My body responds significantly better without ingesting too many carbs. The lower they are, the better I feel and perform.

And, you cannot eat yourself into an underweight state on Keto Eating. I went from 245 to 185, and continued 20 carbs or less per day, and that was two years ago, and I still cannot get under 185 pounds. My body is at it's optimum weight and performance level for a 62 year old.
Unfortunately most people dont understand the difference between high and low glycemic.

I am s type 1 diabetic adult onset and my endocrinologist suggests i not fast but eat 3 meals a day take 3 units insulin before each meal and 12 units at night. I am so confused what to eat - she suggests oatmeal and wheat crackers those things would not work for me she wants me to lower my cholesterol and then I listen to Dr ken Berry about controversy with LDL. Dr west do you have things for me to read or watch? I have eaten low carb for 5 years lost and maintained my weight. Now insulin causing some weight gain.

I've tried this little hack and it actually works. When you get a sugar craving, eat a pinch of salt. Another Dr. I follow says when you get a sugar craving its actually your body telling you you need some salt. It sounds crazy but it actually works for me. It has helped me stay away from chocolate doughnuts!
Try ditching all plants for a month. Just try it.

Sugar is not sugar.
What's commonly refered to as "sugar" is either sucrose or a mixture of fructose and glucose. Sucrose metabolizes as a mixture of fructose and glucose so those are virually all the same. This is what makes you ill in the first place.
This is not to be confused with glucose or starches (which will get broken down to glucose by the body) which is the same substance as "blood sugar". This in itself is less dangerous to the health but it is not completely benign either.
Yes. They tend to clump everything as sugar which is confusing as some of us can't go too low in carb or we pass out from low blood sugar.
After several failed diets ...I have found low carb has been the ONLY change that has worked ...Over 50lb lower weigh now and feeling much better. Now off all my meds ...
PLUS....There is a real hidden bonus here...... nobody seems to mention!!!!
The biggest benefit is if you maybe go on holiday and eat some carbs, gain weight ( as I did on a cruise for a week ...15lb.no less ) Then reverting back, the weight just dropped back off quickly ...unlike before on a calorie restriction diet ...
I find I'm better now at switching from sugar burning to fat burning living on a low carb diet.... I'm in full control ...
It's not how much you eat I find ...it's how OFTEN you eat with just good fats, protein and plenty of fibre ..to stop the insulin spikes and the opportunity for you're body to store the fat ...
it's really simple when you work it out ...No snacking at all and your done....
I'm 64 now and feel like I'm a new person ....ok...it doesn't work for everyone ...but I'm glad it has for me ....

I become hypomanic, insomniac and aggressive on these diets. I also pass out from low blood sugar. It's not for everyone regardless of what internet doctor's say.
(Harry here) yeah, SUGAR, the downfall of my belly. That was the hardest thing to do but we did it. I haven't intentionally had any sugar for the past year. I would hate to see what would happen if I ate a Candy Bar or had a real coke. I think it would be ugly.
Wow, that's incredible- I've struggled with staying in ketosis, it seems as I get to day 2 or 3, with 0 carbohydrates- something happens, & I feel like an addiction takes over, & I eat some sugar/carb..? I'm wondering how I'll EVER stop this. Why do I need (think I need!) to consume the carbohydrates!?

Carbs are addicting once you get fat adapted those cravings along with hunger go away. I had horrible cravings I had to eat once I went low carb all is good.you need to be aware that you need to keep up your sodium and potassium and minerals or you will feel like crap e.g.. GREAT episode (again!!!) thank you! PLS consider a future episode on thermal effect (body's core temperature) and how it plays out on "fast/slow" metabolism and/or fat burning. For 10s of thousands of years my ancestors ate fruit rarely only in the fall when temperatures rose seasonally. Counter intuitively; I have a "faster" metabolism in summer when I sleep 10 hrs in air-conditioning with my feet and hands exposed to the frigid air (my partner needs it cold to sleep) while my head and core trunk are wrapped in a blanket. My guess is that fat burning is accelerated during sleep because the body has to keep pumping blood between frigid extremities and warm core for hours at a time. I know in the 90s Stanford Sports Medicine Research found extreme fast cooling of athlete's hands kept their core temps (even DECIMALS of a degree cooler) and measurable positive effects on endurance and speed in extreme summer heat. You went to STANFORD, what do they put in water in the Palo Alto water that spawns so many cutting edge scientists??!! lol ; )

You can certainly limit sugar to extremely low levels.

Strange to me, my fasting blood glucose is always around 100mg/dL, give or take 10 points. Yet, my A1c has always been good and is stable, 4.5 to 4.8%. Not complaining. I just find it odd.
My GP did not recommend that I go lowcarb. He was mouthing the paradigm generically, 'fats will kill you.' Then I found Dr Westman. Whom I told my GP about. Which seemed to thoroughly piss him off. That's the difference between God and a doctor. God doesn't believe he is a doctor.
Anyways, I could never lose weight without eating low carb (never really full on keto, more like Atkins) and eventually including intermittent fasting, 20-22 consecutive hours per day of no food and 2-4 hours per day of low carb. Essentially 1 meal per day. Thank you Dr Fung. Today, I'm back to my high-school playing weight, without the muscle mass. Without the muscle mass, I probably should lose another 15 or 20 lbs. That or weight train again.
Now, after two years, I have started eating small quantities fruit and very small quantities of root vegetables occasionally. Still losing weight, though. I guess that I am going to copy you and purchase a blood glucose meter. Start sticking myself. I hate that. I don't mind blood draws at all. But, I hate jabbing my fingers. It hinders my guitar playing. Yea, that's it! That's why I'm not a great guitar player. lol

I ate 180 grams of apple on its own an hour and 20 minutes ago and saw zero glucose response checking every 20 minutes. Some stuff spikes real fast and others take 60-90 minutes. My fasting glucose is between 90-100. I hate promoting walmart, but they carry Relion premier which is the best deal. the test strips are only 18 cents a piece and widely available if you have a local walmart. I have obssesed a little over the a1c and glucose, but was reminded I am doing alright when a coworker was admitted to hospital with glucose over 400!!! I would be happy with a 4.8 and 100 if I were you. My a1c is ~5.4. Could be lower, but much much better than the past 2.5 decades.
It’s been 12 hours since I last ate, I had an omelette with chorizo. 2 1/2 hours ago I had a cup of black coffee. I checked my sugar and it was 110. My fasting level when I’m tested at a lab is always in the high 90’s. I don’t understand why my level is never less. I don’t eat sugar I do low carb mostly from veggies

Hi Maribel, taking blood sugar readings doesn’t tell the whole story. Getting you HbA1c tested is far better.

I am very addicted to chocolate, it's definitely my biggest downfall. I also LOVE potatoes. I always feel like I need to eat something sweet after a meal. Maybe I need to get a mint or hard liquorice afterwards to stop the craving 😩
Eating sugar will not stop the addiction. You'll just crave more.

From a fellow Chocolate junky: If you like cold brew coffee and sparkling water (carbonated mineral water is even better), try doing this: Fill large glass or mug with ice, add 2 ounces of cold brew coffee and top with TOPO CHICO or some other carbonated water, or mineral water. Stir. It tastes oddly like dark chocolate to me. I also was addicted to chocolate. I probably still am but all sweets of any kind kept the craving for chocolate alive in me so I have nothing that tastes sweet in my diet. Maybe this is why the drink seems oddly sweet enough to keep me hydrated while staving off the need for chocolate. The Cold Brew I use is called Organic Chamelon Cold Brew Concentrate. It is delicious. I also make my own decaf concentrate and after it cools I can enjoy one in the evenings while watching TV. Hope this helps you.
Sounds like your addicted to the habit of something sweet after dinner. Our head tells us we ‘need’ something else whereas in reality if you have eaten a proper nutritious meal - with plenty of protein , you will be satisfied.
I also love chocolate and about 3 times a week I will have 1 square of 90% dark chocolate (Lyndt brand ) after dinner and if I think I want another square I wait a bit and consider ‘ am I satisfied’.
9 times out of 10 the answer is I don’t need the second piece, it is just my unconscious habit part of my brain telling lies!
I am desperate I can't find the answer to my situation. I am 75 year old. I followed low carb for years and about 11 years ago went keto. Currently I walk 30 mins a day eat only 10 carbs a day in two meals. I appear healthy but my morning blood glucose today was 14.3 mmol or 258 mgdl. and it will be so slow to go down never very far. I understand this could be adaptive glucose sparing but it frightens me it is so high. I also think since I have been vaccinated for Covid it has raised my blood sugar, It has always been high even on insulin - which I stopped in 2016 but not so much as the last several months. I don't want to go on insulin which my doctor would probably want to do as it doesn't make sense to me to put more insulin when want I have isn't being used. I really don't know how to manage this. BTW fasting does not lower bg or exercise. Nothing seems to work.

I respectfully disagree with the no sugar approach. Our brain runs on sugar, I have done vegan keto for years. Tons of oil tons of avocado tons of nuts… it did not serve me well.
Hi Ryan, our brains transition to running on ketones in the absence of sugar. In animal studies, mitochondrial efficacy improves when the brain used ketones. Lastly, even if sugar is eliminated, our body still makes glucose for the brain in the process of gluconeogenesis
