Love OLEDs and great to see them in more devices. Decent looking device at quite an attractive price.
I'm still using an rg552 for handheld emulation. What's interesting is the screen is lovely on it and the power limitations make me play older titles, game boy advanced titles for example look great. This looks like a worthy successor, I would kind of prefer if it was still able to boot to a Linux OS as well as Android personally.
Pre Ordered, glad I did it. Can't wait for after March 5th!
I love the ergonomics, those flat ones (RP4/Pro) with their much smaller size all but need to use attachable grips to play for longer periods of time, nice to see you don't need to do that here. It's more than powerful enough for what I play, and that perfect AMOLED screen is the cherry on top. Checks all of my boxes effortlessly. Please do another one, I'd love to see as many emulators as possible so I can see what I need to do when mine gets in, thanks!
What’s the price? Where did you pre-order?
I don't know the price but I bet if you buy an old flagship phone(snapdragon 8×× is recommended )with a cheap controller would be a better option
@@shadeshiest22 It's $175 with $15 shipping to US, but you can get $5 off if it's your first purchase so comes out to around $187 in the end. Definitely not a bad price for the performance but the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro is stronger at only $200 but less ergonomic and smaller, non-OLED display.

This is a great entry level retro gaming device and leave it at that.

I think the design is great, you dont have to worry about getting an aftermarket grip. I have 3 different grips for my RP3+
this one looks smart ive a couple of sd cards coming for the miyoo mini and the r36s but ive wanted something higher end for quite a while.
They need to make the RG 405m with this chip and a 4inch, 4:3, 720p Amoled display. That is the dream handheld right there.
I'm really interested in the RG556. I really like the looks, including those handles. Another thing helping it is that the quality control of the competition, the Retroid Pocket 4, is kind of a nightmare at the moment. It's not just those springs and the green screens either. I saw on the Retroid subreddit where a dude had the NAND chip of his pass away practically right out of the box. I was really gung-ho about the Pocket 4. I'm so happy I waited.
Performance-wise this unit should be on par with the base Pocket 4. The extra $20 the RG556 commands is easily offset by the AMOLED screen, not needing to buy an accessory grip, and build quality that can't possibly be as pitiful as the Retroid's. I wish it had the power of the RP4 Pro, but it seems to be more than performant enough for what I want to play. Will I buy it? As Enya sang, "Who can say?... Only time."
Amazing Retro Device
Wish the price was a pinch lower but that AMOLED is gonna be great! Pre-ordered mine to essentially be my new tablet for watching video content and streaming. Glad to see it can at least handle up to GameCube alright. Animal Crossing with an HD texture pack is gonna be amazing.

I'm been using a RG505 for a little over a year to go along with my Steam Deck. I almost got an Odin Pro to replace my RG505 since the price dropped, but I'm getting this instead after it's released.
Got the V90 then the 35xx. Waiting for playable PS2 system with a decent screen and price. Glad I waited for this one. Would love to see a RP4 pro plus with a big screen.. or a more powerful pro version of this one. Going to get this once I see the units landing with no issues
Odin 2 is on the expensive side but the power is there to emulate PS2/GC without worries. I'm fine waiting until next year or longer because I have my Switch with a lot of games to play.

I must say itlf i wanted a chunky emulator i would def go the odin 2 and be done with it. But i guess this pricepoint allows for quite a lot of playability. I still think the rp4pro is a much better device. Not just with specs but that playability and portability too.

Definitely competing with RP4 non-pro but for only $25 more, you're getting that larger OLED display and much better ergonomics. It's a solid competitor.

When its ioened by the button press, before you select what Platform/System you want, press select. That will open the 3 themes and 3 Modes for you to choose from!
Think this is the device for me. Retro games from PS1 era and below, and GeForce Now streaming. Seems like a solid choice!
Honestly I can't love this thing enough. It's so awesome on every level. The PS2 emulation is fantastic, and the resolution and pixel density is so good that any PS2 game you play on it looks completely remastered. And it's so ultra comfortable to hold and play.
I like the screen and ergo/design here compared to RP4. Only wish is that it had WiFi 6 too for streaming smh
This thing is perfect for me.. all I want is to emulate up to PS2. Everything further than that, I already have installed on my main gaming PC and will just stream through Parsec to play all the newer stuff.
Very impressive for how much this costs.
I'm happy with Retroid 4 pro for now.
So with all of these handheld systems, do they come with games for the emulators that are here or do we have to manually download the games to these consoles?

I think the Anbernic RG 556 is very nice, I like it even better than the design of the AYN Odin 1 and 2.
I have a question..
With the Anbernic RG 556, can you also assign the touchscreen controls to the controller buttons for Android games like with the Odin?
I ordered the one with the 256 GB memory card, there are older console games on it that I also like and would like to play, but I also like Android games and really enjoy playing them and would like to assign them to the controller buttons .

I have the 505 and I simply don’t care for the size. I still spend more time on my 405m. Debating giving this or the Retroid 4 pro my next shot at another large handheld though.
The handles are great, but adding bulk for comfort with those and then keeping those tiny sticks is weird. Just put some proper triggers on the thing and it would be perfect as a larger budget ps2/gamecube machine.

Sooo, Mr. Prime, would you recommend this over the Retroid Pocket 4 pro? Which do you think is better?
I'd say RP4 Pro is more powerful and pocketable, has an arguably better D-pad (and is d-pad centric, which makes it better for retro, but some modern gamers might not like it) and better software support. Whereas the RG556 is more comfortable, has a bigger and better screen, has a more modern joystick layout, and still is quite powerful.

If you absolutely have to buy today then I'd say RG556. For me it is powerful enough to run what I want (I have no interest in Switch emulation) and the screen + ergonomics are much better. The Pocket 4 Pro is much more powerful, yes, but has had a disastrous launch on par with the newest generation Ford Explorer. Quality was not controlled, apparently. If the extra performance and smaller size of the RP4+ is important to you then I'd advise waiting a few months to give them time to straighten things out and have it verified by the people who couldn't wait.

I have had my og steam deck for almost one year and four months now no hardware issue or button issue it just works.
This one is more ergonomic to hold compare to retroid pocket 4 / 4 pro, even thought it's not as powerful as pocket 4 pro

Hi! Question please. Is the RG556 supposed to come pre-loaded with games? I received mine, but it had zero games. Whereas my other Anbernic RG35xx came pre-loaded with a whole bunch. My RG556 didn't come with instructions inside the box so i wasn't sure what is normal. Thanks!
Wondered what PS remote play was like on this. It’s cheaper than the portal and if it performs well like it did with steam could be great alternative to the portal.
The design looks good to me. I wish we could have a decent SOC that doesn't have a Mali GPU, where hardware acceleration is never available from day 1 for Linux based distros. I do rather tire of so many reviewers talk about inferior plastic used in device construction because there is almost never any context given as to exactly how this has any practical impact on actual use.
Yeah i mean this cpu is terrible. No idea why hes saying this cpu is powerful, it's snapdragon 695 level which is pretty poor. Less than half the graphics processing perfromance of the dimensity 1100 in the retroid pocket 4 pro as well.

I've been interested of Anbernic handhelds for a long time since last year 2023 when I've heared a first time of Anbernic handheld devices and gotta say that all-new ANBERNIC RG556. Is an amoled screen better than an oled and it's great it have a powerful cpu wow. 😊😮

It's equivalent to Snapdragon 855. I think it's better to buy a snapdragon 855 or higher phone and Hall effect controller. Will work better and cheaper

Yeah except the cpu in the RP4 pro is almost twice as powerful as this. The Unisoc T820 is literal garbage. It's not worth buying on that alone, despite the OLED.

@@stressless8405 Yeah i mean who cares about an OLED really when performance is just not great to start with and you cant even play most games at 1920x1080 anyway, seems kind of pointless to me. Agree the size and power of the Rp4 pro is much more interesting imo.
