Rick Rubin is a treasury of knowledge! I watched his podcast with Andrew Huberman and Lex Fridman and now I've been listening to almost all of his stuff. I also plan to buy that book of his in some time. Thanks for uploading this video, Anton! 🙏
7:02 literally all of us including Rick do that. If we didn't make music for business then everyone's song would be like 20 minutes long. Clearly everyone who releases music is doing it for business otherwise don't releases it and keep it on your HDD
I get you, but your idea of and ideal song is ultimately subjective - some things gain their meaning from being short while others not so much. Plus, you can always try to divide your ideal 20min song into an EP to make it more viable commercially speaking (think Shine on your crazy diamond, but instead of 2 parts of 10min, maybe 5 part of 4min).. this wouldn't be much of a sacrifice in terms of aesthetic but would probably make it more appealing to more listeners (assuming you are making music for them and not for yourself).
@@kahyui2486 Making art with a couple of optional 'sacrifices' is still art in my opinion, although you are right that it isn't the best if you want to truly express what you want.
@@tiagoguinhos ts really not a debate if something is or isn't art. Everything is art, u literally just said it's subjective. My point is pretty much everyone other than avante Garde musicians do FOCUS on business. Even the ones like Rick who aren't willing to admit it. You have to be naive to think one is gonna have current sounds/samples, use POPular arrangements and songs structures etc... And believe they are not making it intended for business and to be marketable. That has nothing to do with something being more or less artistic than something else. It means that they are focused on business. Regardless of them admiting it.
Not exactly. Music is primarly a form of art. An artist has the right to do whatever he or she pleases with it. A real artist express something from inside. If other people connects or not, fine. If it sells or not, if it was authentic, it is valid to share it with the world.
Rick is a good person to emulate. I've spent time with him and he is an original soul. His wife is also a very good person.
Rick Rubin's , just one of a kind.
