I'm not in theater but I'm a professional musician/teacher. You're 100% correct about choosing songs that arent typically sung in auditions. In music, they usually have a required piece that everyone has to play, and a piece or 2 of our choosing. Make sure that whatever you choose, that you know it inside out so that it becomes muscle memory. And always audition exactly the way you rehearsed it. Never try anything new that wasnt practiced beforehand. Great topic and advice.
