All I can say is (there will never be another) - we had guys like D.J. Hall, Kenyan Drake, Jalen Waddle, Jamison Williams, Isiah Bond (all of them were very electric and explosive players) but there will never be another guy like David Palmer - During this time Prime Time Dion Sanders was doing his thing, but we had our own Prime Time in Tuscaloosa (David Palmer) 🐘🏆🏈 Roll Tide

The Deuce is my all-time favorite Bama player. His jersey is the only Bama jersey I every owned. I'm 45 years old! He was so special. He is so beloved in Bama nation, but not appreciated as he should be. Long live "the deuce" David Palmer, one of the all-time greats.
One of my nephews was coached by him in high school. We were sitting around talking one day years after he had graduated college and I asked him about David and found out that he knew that he played in the NFL but he had never ever seen his highlights; so I cued up UA-cam for him and he was amazed at watching the videos of his old coach.
You’re the same age as me 😂, and he’s still one of my all time favorites. I just wished he would have stayed for his senior year. I feel like he would’ve been worth more than the 1 point needed to beat Florida in ‘94. Not many kids left early back in those days. RTR
I'm an LSU fan and I remember him. Most admit that he was one of the best to ever do it!!! They never mention that Man and that is quite disappointing to me. So much respect to one of the All time Greats.
He is a high school legend in Birmingham,Al. Jackson Olin High, Pratt City/Ensley raised. Pop a Cherry was is name before the Duece. He was an outstanding player in baseball and basketball. David and Desmond Howard of Michigan were my idols at the flanker position imtating their moves paying sideline hit or in the Metro Leugue while playing for the West End Panthers. But David Palmer made wearing the number 2 iconic in the 90's.
David the "Deuce" was on the Alabama 1992 National Championship team. I don't think Miami ever got over that 34-13 but whipping they took from Bama. And we were a big time underdog going into the game. Never underestimate the "Crimson Tide". Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney was even on the Championship team.
Best football player I witnessed watching in person from practice to the game.I was a kid watching him practice at JO at field across the street, man some of the plays he made in practice was unbelievable!! A real whole Legend
I was at most of these games. Dude was ELECTRIC. there was always an air of anticipation and excitement when teams would punt to us. When he would trot out onto the field the crowd in unison would bellow (loudly) DEUUUUUUCE. It souded like BOOOO but it was the highest compliment. Palmer went on to be a great punt returner in the NFL too.
Well, Prothro was on his way to being Palmer 2.0. His first year he did well, but in 2005 he only played in 5 games, before the injury, but had already equaled catches/yards etc of all of 2004. He was getting there. Prothro had the same 'quick twitch' special quality. Obviously he can't be compared to David Palmer, especially because of how his career was ended. I remember when Coach Saban was hired, everyone was hoping he'd be able to make a come back. But Coach Saban said "There is no way Prothro will ever play football again" or something like that and it was sad.
Palmer was so dangerous, every time he touched the ball he was a threat to score. He would have put up ridiculous numbers had he played in today's Era of high scoring offenses, the fact that he finished third in Heisman voting in 93 is amazing considering the offense he played in.
Don't ask me how I was there, but I was on the sidelines with the team in Bryant-Denny Stadium for the 2nd half of the Homecoming game against Mississippi State in 1993. I stood next to David Palmer on the sidelines. He seemed larger than life on TV, but I was actually a head taller than him. He had gotten hurt earlier in the game. I recall it being a shoulder injury. He was a very humble young man, very nice and personable. What a talent!
He’s why I wore #2 in football!! I used to absolutely love watching him play when I was a kid. I would go straight from the TV to the front yard so that I could attempt to replicate everything I saw him do. He was freakin awesome! Hopefully Ryan Williams will be the next star eplayer to wear #2 at the University of Alabama!
He was the most elusive player I've ever witnessed. You'd see like 5-6 tacklers around him in position and closing in, and suddenly he would emerge out of nowhere. A true magician on the gridiron!!!
Gosh I am getting old. I was at most of those games. Thanks for this video. I forgot how electric the deuce could get on those wonderful Saturdays back in the day. My how the game and times have changed. ✌️
Man's need a statue or some kind of monument in Tuscaloosa...#1 all time for Alabama in my opinion.. He did it all and no debating about this conversation! Thanks for the updated video bro..
In '92 I was at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock, AR for the The Razorbacks first ever game againt The Tide as member of the SEC. There were 55,000 in attedance including President Bill Clinton! That night my brother and I got several 'Bama autographs including David Palmer's, Curtis Brown, Jay Barker, Antonio Langham, coach Gene Stallings and others! It was an unkind welcome to the Conference as 'Bama dominated 38 to 11 en route to the first ever SEC championship(in a two division SEC), and the National Championship beating of the cocky Miami Hurricanes!! Roll Tide!!
How many times did we hear, "Palmer surrounded, but he gets away!" I don't think he was ever the fastest player on the team, but I never saw a player that was more elusive and had the vision he had. Amazing athlete. You know the defensive lineman really hated it when they saw Palmer line up at QB. so versatile. I guess he could probably be the kicker, if they needed him to be. Imagine Palmer, going back to punt, then running (or passing) on the fake!
May have missed it but didn't see the play where he was playing QB at Ole Miss, dropped back to pass, surrounded by 4 defenders, then spun around backwards and got a first down. Palmer said his biggest regret was not coming back for his senior season. He believes he would have won the Heisman and Alabama would have won the NC (or at least a share of it b/c Nebraska was pretty good that year). He's 100% right.
I remember a story he told, when asked about being so elusive. He said they played football ,when he was young, on a field full of rocks. He couldn't stand getting tackled because it hurt so bad, so he just tried to never get tackled! 😂😂
Can you imagine him with a guy like Bryce Young, Tua, or Mac…
It would be lightning in a bottle because even those guys couldn't overthrow him with his blazing speed!!
Joey Jones was another burner that would have thrived with any of these quarterbacks.
All I can say is (there will never be another) - we had guys like D.J. Man, I remember his Jackson Olin High days when I was a 7-year-old.
I was a little too young to remember but I’ve seen highlights. Been player in Alabama High School football history.
5:48 what a throw and catch! I have a feeling Ryan Williams could be David Palmer 2.0.

Congratulations, May God Keep on Blessing you. Roll Tide
In my opinion the best football player ever in Alabama history.
In my opinion, the greatest player to come out of ‘bama…just my opinion
True “X” factor
I’m hoping Ryan Williams wears that number two, he reminds me a lot of him. His speed elusiveness is going to be special as well.
Great to see these highlights
Bama has not had a player like him since … yes we’ve had great receivers but , he did it all wr, qb, pr and kr. My fav bama player til this day
