Edwyn, I value being able to see this episode so so much!!!! Thank You!!!! However, the content of this episode is not memorable,. I cannot believe a whole episode was devoted to this storyline involving a character that had no staying power or lasting relevance to the characters or the show. Alas, I assume Irna Phillips was very much in favor of this story? (I'll have to check to see if she was Headwriter at this time????...) Very rare treasure, though to have the chance to see.

How often it was in 1965-1967 that I'd hear my mother complain her soaps were being interrupted by those live news special bulletins about astronauts being launched into space and splashing down in the ocean. I was a kid totally wrapped up in the space program and I loved every minute.

I really wish CBS and the other stations would just stream these series. They're interesting and historically important. Surely at this point no one is expecting to get any profit from it, unless perhaps the actors have a syndication clause in their contracts.

In the 1980's they did a parody in Canada for Shake & Bake Chicken. Mrs. Bingham ran a Boardinghouse with a group of guys one of which was from Scotland and England. They threw a Birthday Dinner using Shake & Bake Chicken, they washed the Dishes and one of them said "I Can See My Face!"

Thanks you! I only saw a brief clip of this before--not the whole episode. This period of ATWT is a mystery to me--I don't know anything about this plot, or the character Amanda, but I'm glad to see it. I was born in 1970, and so my earliest childhood memories of the show are from the mid-1970s.

Amanda Holmes was the biological daughter of Sara Fuller, seen in the 1966 episode. Sara was dating Don at this point, while Amanda began to have a crush on him after asking him to find her biological mother. Eventually, Amanda found out the truth and confronted her mother, threatening to reveal showing a letter telling the truth to Don. Sara chased after Amanda, which ended in her accidentally falling down a flight of stairs to her death.

This murder trial is wonderfully complex! You have here Donald whom defendant Amanda seemed to be in love with being subpoenaed as a hostile witness for the prosecution. Meanwhile his father Chris is serving as defense counsel that is in dispute with co-counsel as how to proceed (Dick apparently was in favor of copping a plea or pleading nolo contendre so as to have Amanda fall upon the mercy of the court - but Chris wanted to continue the trial with her not guilty plea). Meanwhile, Nancy is so POed at Chris' serving as defense counsel - since Nancy happened to be friends with the victim - that she kicked Chris out of their bedroom for a time! Am marveling as how they could do flashbacks during a live broadcast - only thing I can figure is they used kinescopes from prior episodes and inserted them in, just like they spliced in taped commercials. Thanks for the upload!

And here's an answer to your question from two years ago. By the early 1960s, videotape was being used more and more in broadcasting. (All the ABC soaps from 1963 on were videotaped as if they were live, but they were not actually live. They just didn't edit.) So for this episode of ATWT, the flashback was either taped the day before or earlier in the day before the live show aired. I'm sure some shows must have used kinescope for flashbacks in the earlier days, though.

I doubt the quality of the soap had been changed - just that now more research came out that in general it's better to use cleansers plus toners & moisturizers on the face rather than plain soap - and that many bar soaps contain ingredients apt to make skin break out.
