The Douglas Marland era in the mid-late 80s was the best in my history with ATWT, which started in the 70s watching as a kid in the summers with my Mom and ended with the show's ending. It is so unfortunate this once great show ended. There was something magical during the Marland era. He did it on GL, which I also watched at the time, and then again at ATWT. He could weave and blend storylines and characters, both old and new, like no one. He was a true master of the genre.
A young Marland was at The Doctors on NBC and General Hospital on ABC prior to that where he paired Luke and Laura. The Doctors was praised by the critics and won daytime Emmy's on his watch I believe. NBC was crazy for letting him go.
Thank you so much for letting us see this. I miss when soaps let us see all these slow moments of grief and mourning and loss. Wonderful work from Henderson Forsythe and Pat Bruder (such underrated actors), and I love the long scene with Bob and Kim. I can see why even when they weren't together, she felt like he was her best friend. Don Hastings and Kathryn Hays shine - Hays is so moving and restrained.
It’s ironic that Kathryn Hays and Patricia Bruder are under 50 here, and soaps like Y&R and GH have actors like Laura Wright, Peter Bergman, Maurice Bernard and Steve Burton who are 50 and over. Today’s soap actors seem to redefine what it means to be a “certain age”.
@@misterhot9163But when I look at Y&R the vets (i.e. Peter Bergman, Melody Thomas Scott & Eric Braden,) are 60+ and still viable for storyline. They still look glamorous too.
At this point I had been watching ATWT for exactly a year -- when I started college in 1978. The stories, the families, the characters, the actors, even the title package back then. It was total perfection. I followed 'her' for over 20 years day by day mostly due to VCR'S. I simply will never forget it.....
The death of Dan Stewart was a huge loss for the Stewart family, if not also the show itself. Brilliant performances by Kathryn Hays, Patricia Bruder, Henderson Forsythe, and Don Hastings.
This is wonderful! Thank you for posting this. The acting was much more subtle than today's work, and it was effective and conveyed real, honest emotion.
they do short scenes so they can get through them fast without a bunch of takes and can move on to the next scene. Actors on youtube interviews lately because they have time from the pandemic have said they may shoot up to 6 episodes of their scenes in 1 day. That way they can not have to teardown sets and set up others so much and can let the editors worry about getting all the right scenes together.
I cannot tell you how fortunate I feel to be watching some scenes between Kim and Bob before they got married - before I started watching the show (for 15 years). And the videos are in such good condition too! Absolutely lovin' it! Thank you! ♥
The show was sooo good back then. Watching it in later years was very painful. Goutman had totally ruined it. Hope he never gets a job on a show again..
Watching these episodes starting with Dan’s death are a part of my yearly transition between Summer/Fall/Christmas. I usually watch them daily as they would have occurred in 1979. Keeps me connected to the show I feel. There are no shows better than GL/ATWT/AW and DOOL is a guilty pleasure. 😀
I was into the ABC soaps at the time this aired but i remember it well because my aunt and I would alternate between this and All My Children during the late Summer of 1979.
I watched this soap (my favorite) with mom, aunts grandma's and even a great grandmother, I hated to see this soap canceled like other viewers. Storylines in today's soaps do not even compare.
How sad that in just 3 months time, this show would begin it's first downward spiral. Fortunately Marland would come along in 1985 and a new golden era would begin until his death, and then Goutman and the final nail in the coffin. At least we have these great memories for 1979. Thanks!
This was so good!!! David and Ellen kept trying to do everything for Kim and she just wanted some time alone. You could just really identify with this.
Yes, I remember; but one thing I have always felt, is that the Dobsons never worked the same magic at ATWT as they did with GL. ATWT didn't regain footing until Susie Bedsow Horgan and Cynthia Benjamin (I believe) put Bob and Kim together and had them marry, just prior to Marland rejoining in 85.
HIP HIP HURRAH!!!!!I feel like im dreaming!!!!!!You just made my day!!!!!!!absolutely love this!!!!!!!!love old episodes!!!!!!BRAVO!!!!!!Please keep up the great work.ciao
I miss this soap, I never missed a episode back in the day. I miss these times great times. I will start from the beginning. ❤️❤️❤️She really didn't have to say anything, brilliant.
Russell, Marland is about to come along very soon for a three month run as head writer of ATWT at the end of 1979 before moving to GL. I guess P&G liked his work and decided to swap the Dobsons and Marland on those two shows.
Are the TV shows from 1980s on ABC networks Gus was a strong Grandpa 45 years Deidre Hall on Days of our lives still kicking and going a strong doctor play the part of Marlena Evans still going on the show at least there's no nudity in the show and it was on for 5 years I remember Sundays 6:00 at night to 7:00 at night thank you very much for all the actors sorry to hear about Shannen Doherty's death she was an awesome actor on Little House in the prairie God bless her fans and her family said she'll meet her and have him one day God bless all the fans out there in 1974 baby Wisconsin remembers😊

Sadly, we'll never see daytime programming like this ever again.
Patricia Bruder was superb as Ellen Lowell Stewart. She was under rated and thrown away after 35 years. Such a shame
How did they write her character off the show? I always wondered whatever happened to Ellen.
I understand soap actors get a good retirement though.

How is it that Kim's acting with no dialogue is 150 times better than the stuff they have on soaps today? I wish daytime would get back to this.
Everything today is over talked, over processed, etc. They have no respect for the viewers intelligence.
She is pretty amazing in those scenes.
These were the years when older folks had a real place in the soaps...

Older actors are the foundations of soaps..shouldn't be ignored.

+TimsDale4ever i WILL NEVER GET OVER LOSING ATWT replaced by a gossip show. I still mourn Oakdale.

I remember when Dan and Kim “married”each other while he was dying.I Kim take thee Dan…….Very moving.

Here's what I find amazing... most of the people leaving the comments are men, LOVE IT!
I remember this just like yesterday. So beautiful. Thank you! Wish my Mom was still alive to see these vids. it's what we watched... every day.
Soaps today jump from one scene to the next
The oldies spent time really digging into the scene

I agree. I wish I could find episodes when they started dating. My grandmother says she resisted him, but he didn’t give up?
Soap opera actors were so underrated... a beautiful storyline.
The show was sooo good back then. Watching it in later years was very painful. Goutman had totally ruined it. Hope he never gets a job on a show again..
Makes me miss my grandmother who got me hooked and I in turn got my mom hooked, both are gone now and so is ATWT 😢
RIP KIM MARCH 25 2022

I remember watching this as a kid. I was shocked Dan died
@@merricat3025 I started watching the week Dan died, but my mom & GMa watched ATWT & GL nearly the entire run.
This was a great companion piece to the Patricia Bruder Locher room interview. She spoke very highly of all of her cast members.
Where can I find the interview?

I watched them with my grandmother and great-aunt, a loving memory. It’s like “comfort TV” watching these episodes again.
That scene with Kim said more than words could ever had.

Back then General Hospital was kicking every soaps’ butts in the ratings.
These episodes were from the brief period when Doug Marland wrote for ATWT the first time...
@@travisdavis7591 doug marland did a wonderful job
Beautiful performances esp. by Kathryn Hays as Kim! (:
This was so good!!! David and Ellen kept trying to do everything for Kim and she just wanted some time alone. You could just really identify with this.
RIP John Colenback - Dr Dan Stewart
One really weird thing is that Patricia Bruder is two years younger in real life than her daughter-in-law, Kim Stewart played by Kathryn Hays
Why can’t these be seen like other vintage shows ?
Yes, I remember; but one thing I have always felt, is that the Dobsons never worked the same magic at ATWT as they did with GL. ATWT didn't regain footing until Susie Bedsow Horgan and Cynthia Benjamin (I believe) put Bob and Kim together and had them marry, just prior to Marland rejoining in 85.

This is a classic The World Turns
This was great acting.
Thank you from sharing
I miss this show so much
Kathryn Hays was so wonderful. That scene in the living room -- she doesn't say anything and yet she is giving such a beautiful performance. ❤
Russell, Marland is about to come along very soon for a three month run as head writer of ATWT at the end of 1979 before moving to GL. I guess P&G liked his work and decided to swap the Dobsons and Marland on those two shows.
These great episodes are why I don’t like today’s soaps. General Hospital really ruined soaps.
I think the actors were allowed more prep time but that all changed when they had to tape many scenes from future episodes as a cost cutting measure.
+adelgado75 You had actors that could act, not just pretty faces.
I Remember This Episode , I Was in College

Funny how they called Emily “Emmy” back then. Also, whatever happened to Ellen?
back when soaps were decent!! Now it's PC pushing propaganda
boo hoo :(
