Back after a well deserved vacation with the family. I am leaving on a bikepacking trip tomorrow for a couple of days, so hopefully the first part of that trip will be next week's video.
Just picked this up for backpacking in the UK, a mix of wild camping overnights and longer hikes (3-10 days) but I'm building up to doing a much longer hike too (the South West Coast Path, over 800 miles!) I might need a lighter tent for that, maybe a Lanshan, but we'll see - in the meantime I'm so excited to get out and about with my new tent! I'm a solo female hiker and I can sometimes feel a bit vulnerable, so it's really important to me to have my own little home to settle into after a long day of hiking. For that reason, some of the more bivvy-style tents really didn't appeal. But on the other hand, I have joint issues and need to keep an eye on my base weight. I'm also on a limited budget. This tent really did tick all boxes, and I'm delighted to hear that it's worked out well for you!
That’s awesome…..not sure if you did your long hike, if so. Hope you enjoyed it. I’m currently planning to do my first longish hike, the west highland way…96miles. I’m fit enough but been wearing my pack more for training and it is NOT easy pounding the miles out with the weight on my back. Have another couple of months before I’m going to attempt it so should be grand by then. How have you found this tent for longer distant treks? Could you give Any advice on how to prep for long distance walks?? Cheers. Mark, Belfast
Hi Mike. Its a great tent for the lightweight camper. I've used mine on my recent mini tour / overnight bike trip in The Peak District. I did make a couple of videos about the trip on my channel. I have the 20D Army Green one, and its perfect for wild camps. Mine fits snugly in my handlebar tube bag, including poles, in fact I also have my Trekology UL80 mattress in there as well. Good luck with the next trip. All the best Mike.
Thanks for this thorough review of the tent. I saw one of your previous videos and ended up purchasing the green (upgraded nylon) one last year. I'm very happy with the purchase. On its 'maiden adventure' my tent was exposed to 2 days' worth of heavy rain and it performed amazingly well. No water inside. Miraculous for a $200 tent (CAD). Thanks for continuing to share your knowledge with us! OK, essay's over. 😉
Hi Mike. I'm finally on my first bicycle tour for this year after recovering from my surgery. Now relaxing in my MSR Hubba tent and watching videos from my favorite UA-camrs'. I'm looking forward to watch videos from your tours of this summer.
@@BikeTouringMike Awesome. Enjoy your adventure. I'm looking forward taking part of your experiences via your great videos. Again relaxing after riding +100 km in +28 C. It's hot but I'm enjoying every kilometer after cold winter and not being able to ride bike.
Wow, 100 km in +28. That's brutal. I only managed 85 today. Just set up camp and hoping to cool down a bit. It's 24 here at 8 in the evening, with no wind at all. I know I shouldn't be complaining ;-)
I just received my UL version of this tent with 10D nylon. It is 2 person tent under 1kg, very impressing for a free standing tent of this price. Will try it on the trail soon
You seem like a nice person. I am thinking about buying this tent and am glad I found your video. Thanks for the valuable information. Take care. Doug Wheeler USA.
Ive Used the Cloud up 2 for a 7day trip around vänern after i saw your last video about this tent. Its really fast to set up when u done it a few times
I bought the green one, after seeing it here ( or Rides of Japan, can't remember). Weighs in at about 4lbs. Hard to beat the weight to price ratio. I just stuff mine in to a waterproof dry bag, and the poles go in my fame bag. Great tent. Not the most subtle green, but not too bad for stealth. On my second year with it, and so far, so good. I would like a side opening tent, so maybe when this one finally wears out. Great video.
Nice video. I got the Cloud 1 UP tent this year and although I have only spent a few nights in it I am really pleased with it, especially for the price! But after seeing your videos I regret a bit not getting the 2 UP to allow extra storage. (But not enough to replace the 1 UP!)
Good review as I have bought it. I did get the blue, as it is dark. Very informative video. Happy trails and enjoy the 🦜🦉🦅🐦🦝🦌🐘Ok, so maybe, unless you are hiking in Africa you might not get an elephant. But you get the idea..🐅🦘🐯or the sea perhaps 🦈™.
Great review! I really enjoy watching your videos Mike .I choose between : cloud up2 20d and cloud up2 10d . Which one would you choose if you were buying now? Good luck and many subscribers
I bought a cloud up 3 at collins outdoors a month ago and it was much cheaper than amazon, used it 5 times and everything was fine. Naturehike gear has always been a good budget option.☺☺☺
Hi Mike. As always, a great video. Inspired by your first review of this tent, I decided to look up Naturehike. Ended up bying the Star River Ultralight 2 model. And boy am I happy with it! Two side doors, good roof hight, relatively light weight and good value for money. My Helsport tent, at almost 4 X the price, is heading for an early retirement... PS. Det ska va gott å leva :-)
I'm really curious about that one. How well does it blend in with the surrounding nature? Have you had any experiences with using it in the rain so far?
@@BikeTouringMike the one i bought is the better material not the cheaper vers. Light rain it was quite good. There is a bike touring one man tent available i bought too which has a side entry. Smaller for a bike packing setup. Seems roomy enough.
According to Naturehike website there is "210T Green" version which has the inferior polyester material, but "20D Olive green" and "20D Mustard green" have the same better nylon material as Mike's gray tent.
Thanks for the info. They keep changing the colors and materials. If I were to choose I would definitely go for the Olive one. The Mustard Green is probably not a good choice for wild camping, it has a really vivid color.
@@BikeTouringMike Furthermore please consider including a link to the German Amazon store in the video description. For us living in the EU it is better place to order than UK or US Amazon. No extra taxes and in some cases the shipping is free. That being said unfortunately the 20D Olive green version is currently out of stock in the German Amazon.
I mostly agree with you, but here you missed one point : the possibility to put up the tent when it's raining, I have an army tent (belgian para commando) which I can set up in the rain and my inner tent is never wet, I lately bought a trekking tent which is lighter has 2 entrances on the sides, is dark green, weights only 1.6 kg but is not freestanding, on the plus side you can put it up in the rain as the inner tent is attached to the outer tent (you can make it loose if you want) but setting up take no more than 5 minutes. I tried it in the garden and was really pleased. The ground sheed have to be done again, I told you before I had it made by a sailmaker I know, as he made a super job for the first I will ask him to make a new one for my new tent.
Good point. I have this tent as well and have also set it up in rain, ground sheet and cover first, then the inner tent. Worked like a charm and kept the inner tent dry.
nice video. I got a dirt cheap tent frome Decathlon 299 Sekr, uppgraded it with aluminium poles i already got. with glassfiber it weigths 2.4kg , i think im just under 2 kg, it have hold for heavy winds on Öland ;). This is of course not for long tripps in the wild ;). I put the money in a classy sleeping pad. This cloud 2 looks very interesting.
Are you Sweedish or Norwegian, you have that accent when ending words 😂 nice vid and tent. Prob watched 40 already as I am going ti buy it and then ready to go to Sweeden for camping :D closer to go there from where I am then back to Croatia where I am from
Great review! Sounds like a great tent for 1p plus a backpack and stuff, a YKK zipper maybe has the name but it's not always 100% reliable. I wanted to ask about condensation and ventilation when the door is zipped closed, also how does it perform when windy. is it possible to sit inside and not touching the top of the tent? Since the lentgh is shorter than the specs guess a Regualr size183cm sleeping pad is the best bet. Did you have any wear and tear yet that needed any patchwork?
Great view and love that you have used it for a long time first and gave your reviews. I am not sure if this is an issue, but it is with my tarp I use for my hammock setup. I have a light grey tarp and a dark green one and the light grey one lets so much light in, it becomes very bright in the morning, making it harder to sleep. This is why I use the dark green one for sleeping and the light grey one I setup somewhere else when I am awake to sit under. Thanks again for your thoughts. Last question, this review is now a year old, would you buy a different model of a 2 person Naturehike tent or still this one if you were shopping today?
Oh man hopefully we can claim the title of the best budget backpacking tent. As far as we know, we are the only tent on Amazon that weighs less than 3 lbs, is freestanding, and only costs $99. All other freestanding tents either cost more, or are heavier than 3lbs. See you on the trails!
Hi Mike I guess yo would like me to write to you in English and not Swedish :-) Living in the south myself and are looking for a light budget tent as you describe. Have you tested the Ultralight version of this tent? Do you see any reason to buy or not to buy it except weight? I will use this model as a one man tent but beeing able to sleep two if we have to due to full wind shelters etc. Your view on that?
Hello Mike ! Great video, yesterday I finished my 3 days bike tour with my naturehike cloud up 2 tent and was great . Your reviews helped me to choose this tent . Thanks ! I have a question but not about the tent :) , how you made your youtube banner / cover for your channel ? Thanks !
Glad to hear that George! Regarding the channel art, it was a long time ago, but I think I used a template in Canva. I do all my thumbnails in Canva. I remember that it was a little bit tricky to get everything to work on different platforms. Just search for channel art canva on UA-cam and I'm sure you'll find a fitting tutorial.
Hi another great video lovely tent I have the one man Naturehike spider cycling tent colour forest green brilliant tons of room I am 6feet tall or 180cms. Fits me plus 4 panniers and barbag. You are 6ft 2ins tall that is 185cms not 188. Take Care stay safe
I have the single man version of the same tent and like it pretty much what it comes to warm/mild season use. I also hope they would have made lower half of the door of non-mesh material for better windkeeping. All in all you cover the pros and cons of this tent nicely, let me just add that the provided pegs are quite tiny and therefore not so reliable in loose ground. Is your older tent a Bergans, looks just like mine?
I have just ordered the Naturehike cloud-up 2, but i got the 210T Orange Standard, should I have got the upgraded one with extra guyropes on the side? The upgraded one was made from Polyester and my original one is made from Nylon which i think is better?
Hi Mike, I first slept in this tent a couple of days ago. When i woke up there was lots of condensation on the tent fly even though the vent was open and the fly staked. How is condensation for you with this tent? And do you have any tips to decrease it? P. S. I slept with my head in the back. I much prefer that position since when i get up from that position my hoead is already in the right position facing the door. Getting up at night was no problem for me.
Sort of a random tip, but if have made a fire, you bring in a container of cool charcoal, it will absorb some of the moisture. Also, the obvious one of leaving all wet gear outside.
Oh, that is exactly a model what i bought last summer. I used it for a camping in the woods until now, and the weather was just the best, so i dont know, how suitable it can be for something more hard and serious. The fabric is so thin, that i breathe cautiously inside this tent not to tear it:). I am going to use it for a more long camping next summer, but this is going to be Karelia in July or august, so conditions aren't going to be severe again.
I took it to North Cape last summer and had no problems. One night it was so windy I was certain either the poles would snap or the fabric would tear but it made it through the night just fine.
I just ordered the 20d mustard green Cloud Up 2, It was the only one on sale. It was like the unwanted tent, I decided to give it a home, it is not as stealthy, but maybe easier for me to find it after I get lost....actually the color is more of a pond scum green. Apparently this tent is one of the warmer models of Naturehike.
Do you install the seperate footprint seam side up or down? its not clear on the instructions. It looks like its meant to be seams down but I also don't want to damage them. I think of most waterproof nylon jackets and the seams are on the inside so that would make me think seams facing up... Any insights ?
