🟢Citric acid information:
When citric acid and sodium hydroxide lye (NaOH) are combined, sodium citrate is created. Sodium citrate works as a chelator in soap.
A chelator traps metal ions such as calcium and magnesium that can be found in tap water.
These metal contaminants can cause rancidity and soap scum in handmade soap.
A chelator binds to these metals so that they can’t bind to the soap molecules. This way the soap won’t react with them and the soap's lather improves + shelf life increases.
Citric acid does not lower the pH of soap. Instead it consumes some of the lye and increases the superfat. Add 6 g extra lye for every 10 g of citric acid added to a soap recipe if you want to keep the superfat % at the same level.
How much citric acid should be added to soap?
Usage rate in bar soap is 1-2% of the oil weight.
How to use citric acid
Add citric acid to the distilled water and dissolve completely before adding the lye, or make a separate solution of citric acid and distilled water and add to the oils.

Muchas gracias. Me encanto tu respuesta.
I wish we would know how the color gets without rhuarb. It took my attention that lye didnt change so much the color of watermelon. Maybe you tried a sample batch while developing the récipe?
@@gozdeyzgngl Si, habría que probar como queda el color solo con sandia pero yo creo que el color va a cambiar seguro con el paso del tiempo En argentina estamos en invierno asi que que aun no es tiempo de sandia.
@@gozdeyzgngl I think it would be a pale peach color without the rhubarb🙂
@@beatrizdelmarmol4011 Can you make honey, milk and silk combo soap?
That's soap literally looks good enough to eat and I can smell it right through my smartphone screen.
I literally just woke up to the best surprise ever a fresh summer watermelon soap and the best part is I've never seen it done with real watermelon so thank you for the treat
🥰🥰
Hey Sarah? Quick question: when handling lye, have you been using a oxygenated respirator?
My mouth watered while watching.

super!
Brilliant!!! I've done a watermelon before as well it was luxurious!!!
Awesome🤗
So sorry I asked on another video where I can get this bowl but you can ignore that. I FOUND one! It'll take a bit to get here but after melting my oils tonight in a similar fashion, I'm super excited to wait for it! I think this and my induction heat burner will be my future in soap making! I experienced my oils being hotter than my lye solution, and having to wait on in to cool down, for the first time! LOL! Sorry for spam comments. Just catching up on your videos. :)
Your such an inspiration!! Love your videos I learn so much!! Thank you for sharing!! What scent did you add?
Hola Sara!
La técnica de elaboración de jabón artesanal, en mi opinión, son de las más bonitas de hcer, pero tú lo haces especial ✨, sin duda.
Sigo varias cuentas de elaboración de jabones, pero la tuya me inspira, me encanta...
Me gusta probar cosas nuevas, investigar, y demás...
Siempre gracias, Sara💚✨
Thank you so much, that sounds awesome💚
I love your channel so much! Thank you for sharing with all of us 🥰
Just curious though, do you sell any of your soap products or is it mainly just teaching others how to make it themselves? I'd love to buy some of your soaps if possible!❤😊
Omg you are such an inspiration and I love every single of your video! Also I wanted to ask what does Himalayan powder does to the skin, is it just for skin benefits or just to add color or texture to the bar ? I’m sorry
Awesome videos. Your videos inspired me to make my soap. It turned a little flaky. I did not know you can put the soap in the oven to make it hard. Thank you.
Lindo ficou seu sabonete
Wow Water milan soap Amezing warke
Your soap and Technique is amazing....I'm somewhat new to soap making and thanks for showing how to fix parcel gel
I threw out a whole batch because a batch of soap because of parcel gel.....I wasted money
Thank you so much for all of your videos! I have found my favorite soap maker /teacher finally!! ❤️❤️
When using fruits in soap, do they ever go rancid? Or does everything else in the recipe help that not happen?
Thank you so much Jessica💕 I have never experienced it, the pH environment prevents spoilage
Love this. May I know the lye concentration used here? I bought your ebook. 🤩🤩 I love it.
Comme toujours votre savon est un bonheur 🥰
aw🥰
Love it.. ❤
do we have to keep the oven ON when fixing the partial gel?
Going to buy watermelon now. So beautiful
Looks just beautiful, I am not a huge fan of food in soap but this is a very nice idea as it is the juice / water from the melon which is the bigger amount. I dont know of any other benefits from watermelon although I understand the oil version is supposed to be very good for skin. I think this is a decrease in the rhubarb powder from last time avoiding the bleed, have you hit just the right percentage now? And what a great trick to help illuminate the partial gel ring, well done and thank you, such a pleasure to watch.
Thank you so much☺️ I think this amount of himayan rhubarb is pretty good, but I want to experiment with even less and see what kind of shade comes up!
Another beautiful presentation. I just love the simplicity of your soaps and the red looks amazing. But the most important thing , what does Molley think of this watermelon bar !?
Thank you so much! I haven't showed it to her yet but she likes watermelon so she has to like this soap too right?😇
Another beautiful soap...this is great for using extra watermelon that is turning too soft to eat. I so wish that we could get Himalayan Rhubarb in South Africa...it's beautiful! 🍉
Thank you for the tip on re-gelling the soap, so helpful 🙏
I looked too....cannot find it.
Thank you so much🥰
My goodness! You’re creativity in the soap world is so unique. Where do you source your ingredients from. I look up the brand name and did not turn up anywhere.
Thank you for sharing!
I want some.
Lovely soap! I have tried fresh aloe vera, turmeric and papaya, oatmeal and honey! Wonderful results. My only problem is some harden up before pouring into the mould. What can I do to avoid this?
Im new to soap making but now totally love it. Ive only made a couple simple castille and coconut soaps. Now looking to start trying expermenting wth other slightly more complicated soaps. In this recipe you use several different oils. Can you explain why each oil was chosen and why in those quatities ordoesit not really matter as long as the overall oil weight is a certain amount?
I really like to watch your videos,so inspiring..please share your ingredients.thank you!
What's the functional role does dissolved citric acid play in soap making?
How long do you wait till you unmold and cut the soap? Love your videos :)
It is really inspiring thanks a lot ,just one question if I don’t put that Himalayan powder still I will get that beautiful color 🌷
Hi. I really luv your videos. Plz mention water method in your soap making videos which is always missing. Thank u ❤
Thank you😊 What do you mean by water method?
ขอบคุณค่ะ😊
Thank you for another great video. I wonder if covering the mold during the first 24 hours would have helped with an even gel. I understand high sugar recipes are at risk for overheating and scorching but may be worth trying, especially with keeping a close eye during the first few hours? Thanks again!
Thank you😊 that would be worth a try!
delicious corrosive watermelon juice with lye 🥰❤️
😅 yumm
What a beautiful soap! Thanks for sharing. Where do you get your rhubarb powder?
I love this! I just bought a watermelon 🍉 last night 😄 now I need Rhubarb powder. I also got more coconut oil. Yesss, cant wait to make this. BTW I Love the background piano 🎹 I still wonder if its you Sara? Are you playing the piano 🎹 Your hands look like a Piano player ❤
This is so beautiful presentation. Maybe one suggestion: you could separate some soap after the trace, then dye it black, and by using a squeeze bottle add small black drops to the soap in the mold. It would then be real water Mellon soap. Thank you so much for your tips.
Thank you! That's a great suggestion😊
Oh 😳 my, my, I do love my watermelon.... 🍉🍉👍
Me too😋
❤Thank you for this very wonderful formula. Can the Himalayan powder be replaced with something else, because it is not available to me?
Bom dia! Que trabalho precioso, parabéns e obrigada por compartilhar! Abraço fraterno!
Thank you so much, hugs🤗
@@tellervo. 😉😘💫
You're amazing in your soap making ❤❤❤
Pls what other powder can I use in place of himalayan rhubarb since I can't find it in my location.
You need to have a course I admire your soap making
🥰🥰
Wonderfull soap and video. I would like to try this recipe as well. What Superfat did you calculate it with? Thank you for your help and inspiration. Kind regards
Beautiful looking soap, and your video is so soothing. I'm wondering if the colour in this soap lasts throughout its life? Or does it fade or change colour after a while. Thank you
Thank you! The color lasts very well😊
Vv,nice 👌🌹👍🙏🙏
thanks for sharing this video , pls, what is the reason of adding citric acid to oils ? I'm never heard bout that before
Citric acid can help reduce "soap scum" - the bits of soap that bind with the minerals in water and create left over residue in the sink/shower/soap dish.
Will it help if the soap is covered with lids and towels in a box while the cooling down process and still in the mould to avoid gel appearing?
I really love your videos especially when u make soap with fruits
Please more videos with fruits 🥰❤️
Rageding soap gelling,so its better after pouring to put it in oven to gel?
Thank you🥰 It would be better to gel it but the oven might be to hot with the sugars so you have to be careful!
@@tellervo. ok Thank u 🙏 🥰
Hi. Iam a big fan of your soap making beautiful techniques. I have few questions, it would be kind enough if you mention SF and which water method u applied. Most importantly, how much citric acid usage in PPO? Y we need to add it? Did u lessen the qty of Sodium Hydroxide by adding Citric Acid? Thank u 🙂
Absolutely gorgeous soap .. what temperature do you usually soap in with fruit juice to get such a smooth pour and no heat acceleration ..
Thank you!! I recommend around 30 degrees celsius😊
