Having fun with Mazda ND2 MX5 Miata Club

  • I was just having fun doing donuts and powerslides with ND2 Miata here. I turned off the traction control however when the ECU senses tires spinning abnormally it automatically turns their traction control ON again…This makes it hard to sustain smooth power slide. It can probably be fixed with a custom tune but I have no plans to mod the car.

    What year is your car? Mine is a ND1 2015 model and traction control turns off fully. I have also seen other videos of ND2 cars that drift no problem.

      My car is 2021. Traction does turn off but if you start doing donuts and the ECU senses excessive spin on tires, it comes back automatically…I’ve had other ND2 owners telling me their cars are doing the same thing..You can still drift but it makes it difficult and unpredictable..You have to constantly fight the computer and power through which ends up forcing you to make mistakes by overpowering and spinning. I’m not an expert nor good at drifting or doing donuts so don’t quote me on this 😅. I’m more of a track guy.

      @@Sideways_SinghMany other ND2 owners also reported and posted on many forms their traction automatically coming on even after turning off traction with one button. It seems like on ND2 Mazda added this as an extra safety measure…once it senses excessive tire spin, traction control comes back on. I am not a drifter, neither good at it, but I have 15 years of tacking experience I can assure you it’s not a placebo effect…

      @@trackeagle6013 people say many dumb things on forums, theres alot more people on those forums saying the opposite. I have been drifting for many years almost daily, in many cars and trust me I have done donuts, drifts everything possible and there is no sign of traction control, u are 100% having a placebo effect from reading forums and believing it.

      I was trying to do better but even when the traction control was off, it was still fighting me. In the forums other ND owners are saying when the computer senses spin, it automatically interferes. Do you run into the same issue? I mean I tried pushing it harder to override the computer’s inputs but then it causes me to go overboard and spin out…I was actually frustrated with that but other than that was very fun. It was my first time I’ll go back out there and practice more :)

      @@matthieurada9959 yes I agree it’s definitely a buzz killer for the traction to interfere when you already have pressed “traction OFF” but the traction comes back on after a spin, now you have to turn off/on (reboot) the car to clear ECU input.

      Goodwin website aciklama:
      UPDATE May 2017, we now include a Mixing baffle that effectively converts this muffler to same sound as the Race muffler when fully inserted driver's side tip, adding back in the higher frequencies the chamber would otherwise convert lower (to cover the costs of adding that blocking baffle we are ending the RoadsterSport script on the tips and deleting the less effective pair of cone baffles). Result is more effective control over tone and the balance of treble vs bass than any other choice, max upper frequency fun is mixing baffle fully inserted driver's side tip, back it out to the other positions to progressively shift frequency balance lower.
      Separately on the site is a fiber packed long baffle that effectively converts this unit to same frequency balance as the SuperStreet Single Tip. Thus, now essentially THREE mufflers in one here, the Race with included Mixing baffle, the SuperStreet Single tip if you add packed long baffle (item 60-1325SSTT), or skip the long baffles and use standard length baffles in one or both tips (item 60-1324T) to keep the bass heavy frequency balance but lower the volume. Result is a 17 pound street muffler with MORE flexibility than all other choices.

    This might be a dumb question but how do you fully turn off traction..? I know how to turn it off but not fully.

    • @trackeagle6013
      @trackeagle6013  2 роки тому +8

      It’s an excellent question because I was having the same issue, I couldn’t get rid off traction completely no matter what I did…There is only one way to turn it off by pressing the traction off button and that’s all you can do…what the problem is on these new ND Miatas when the computer sense excessive spin it starts interfering so you can’t “truly” turn it off..traction comes back again and fights you…this is why I was struggling and ending up powering thru the traction which makes you spin & stop thus kills the rhythm while trying to drift…I found it kind of annoying too. This is why my donuts/drifting attempts here looked sketchy. I think one way to overcome this issue is to keep practicing and get used to what the ECU is doing and give just enough extra power to override ecu’s input to find the perfect balance…which is more difficult than normal drifting. I also looked it up online and this what other people were experiencing too.
