- A drone attack on US troops killed three soldiers near the Jordan-Syria border on January 28, adding to the growing list of attacks on US troops by Iranian proxies. The attack has mounted pressure on the Biden administration to respond as Republican lawmakers call for “hard” strikes on Iran “now”. US Senator Lindsey Graham called on Biden to "strike targets of significance inside Iran.” If Biden decides to launch strikes deep inside Iran, US forces will face a myriad of air defence systems that Tehran possesses. Iranian scientists under Soleimani did a marvelous job in building its defence. Their defence equipment are an envy of many countries including ours too. While our focus was on winning elections and we have been largely dependent on outside countries for equipment , Iran kept on developing its own.

Once they encounter a particular aerial target once or twice they adjust the targeting algorithms in their radars accordingly. Those aerial threats now have an easily recognized target profile that can be referenced by the targeting software in their radars. How else do you think they shoot down stormshadow missiles? All smart bombs and missiles emit frequencies, even when in their terminal ballistic phase they use SAR which is a strong emitter that's easily detected by air defense radars.

Those are more advance and are not even present in Ukraine either. JASSM's old variant is used in Syria and the Russian defenses did nothing. How about later variants. It's highly unlikely to think that Iran air-defense could withstand those weapons...
