Timelimitation YES, but still possible even with an only 250g drone… that is an acceptable compromise
the fact that it can fly smoothly during strong wind is perfect for its size, also looks like you have excellent signal while sitting inside the car. great information in this video
The battery drain is obviously due to not just the motors acting in overdrive to try & hold position and direction when moving, but the camera stabilisation is having to cancel out a crazy level of turbulence, No Wonder the battery is getting a serious work out. .. The fact it CAN even try and combat that level of wind, for something that weighs only 250g is astounding! .... Maybe cut it a bit more slack?

I think it is absolutely impressive how stable the recorded video is when the drone is being buffeted by the strong wind gusts.
Good video but I'm not really concerned for my mini 4 pro as you are flying way outside of the wind speed specifcations for this drone. Bang for buck!

Finally someone mentioning the far shorter flight times than advertised. I have an Air 3 and a mini 4 pro and the best flight times I have seen is 34 minutes in the Air 3 and 32 minutes on the mini 4 pro (plus batteries) ... when people are always promoting the 46 and 45 minutes I have commented how much less my pair get and have been told mine must be damaged or whatever. I am on the mid Queensland coast, so often windy up th 20 kph) However, looking at my controller flight logs, the times are confirmed. I always take the battery charger off the power supply as I leave to go fly, not unplug it the day before. I wish DJI would just advertise them as real world 30-35 minutes flight time, rather than Bs you can expect 45 minutes. Thanks for the vid, great as always, Greetings from Australia

Hey, is the DJI Fly 1.12.8 Update causing the battery to drain in windy conditions. Why do we have a new problem? Or is this issue the same as before the update in these windy conditions? Confused with the title. Are you telling me that I do not need to update to avoid this issue???

I read that the intelligent battery charger auto-discharges the batteries down to 80% "after a few days". Could that process have started and caused the 11% drop? I going to charge all 3 and take 2 out of the charger then check them after a couple or three days.
I read a comment on another post by someone else that DJI have meant to have fixed that issue with the charger in a recent firmware update, but not seen that anywhere else.
Hello everyone! Until I saw this excellent video, I was wondering if owning two drones - Mavic Air 2 and Mini 4 pro is not redundant and if by selling the Air 2 I was doing a business... Do you think that the stability in the wind would be a reason to keep the Mavic? Could there be other reasons (sorry I'm not on topic)? Thanks for the effort to teach us!

Strong Wind warning basically means the shot is going to get more interesting, I get tingles when I see it light up red. I like that you're checking out Poland on your maps, I have a bed ready. You sound pretty great, what mic are you using?!
@DMProductions. I have noticed that when you click on the new before you fly prompt, it asks you which drone you have and gives the legal requirements for that country with the drone you choose. However it seems to default to basic Flyer ID and Operator ID for everything except the Mini series. Bit misleading.
The wind factor is always a bit worrying here on the south coast with it drastically affecting my Mini 3 Pro flights! So, ive just bought an Air 3 😊. Just got to keep a lookout for those kamikaze seagulls now 😮 Cheers, Andy 👊
After the most recent batch of update on the M4 pro and RC2 I had no problem with battery or flight time in minimal winds. I think the results are skewed as it's fighting the wind mate. Agree with the abnormal self discharge so quickly.
One thing I did notice was that it wouldn't let me hand catch after the update! Thanks
I thought self discharge was normal phenomenal ? Right after I take it off charger, it’s usually 100% but a day later is like 80% as if that’s how tit maintains battery life in a good condition. But I gotta say when I see the battery goes down by 10% just getting up in the air with wind gets me anxious lol
After my last flyaway Darren there’s no way I go out on such a windy day. lol. It’s just as easy to go back on a calm day. Take care my friend

At least an option would be good, it's due to not getting light spill in your footage at night but it does make seeing the drone at night very difficult
@@DMProductionsI picked up a couple of very light strobes that Velcro on either side of my Mini 3 Pro: I actually hoped they would enhance VLOS in daylight (they don’t!)but I look forward to trying them out at night. Trouble is that at 11g each they take me over the 150g, thus invalidating my 3rd party insurance if the sh1t hits the props…
@DMProductions yeah an option would be great, especially as the lights are on the rear so less chance of them interfering with the camera 👍

I have an Air2S and a M3P and I can say that the Air2S is markedly better in strong winds. Not only will it last longer, but it is way more stable. I have used my M3P in conditions where the video is quite wobbly but the Air2S I have never seen wobbly video due to the wind.

My son will be taking part in a small race in Slovenia around Easter in the smallest category, “Optimist”. I would like to capture it with a drone. I just purchased an Air 2s in addition to my M3p and am hoping this larger drone can do this job better. Your experiences here are very welcome. On the other hand, I doubt it wasn't the right purchase decision as all the specs/features are very similar. In your opinion, do both models have their justification? As a Mini4 Pro user it's great to see the capability being tested in such gusty wind (so I don't have to! :)) But I'm just picking up on the fact that when the control screen said you were at 52m height on your way back to land, you were visibly only just higher than the street lights which are easily less than 10m. Can you shed any light on that discrepancy? Cheers

@@DMProductions Nothing since the various storms broke. Prior to that a few blue sky, still sunny days I managed to take advantage of (😉One of the plus points of retirement!).
i got the mini 2 se. i would like this one but bit on the pricy side. the batteries do have a fast discharge. had one fully charged then 4 days i went to use it and it was at 71%. i flew on a windy day and won't do that again, i wasn't to far from home but i was flying into the wind and it was going backwards.
Not at all to me. It was better before.
After updating my drone keeps disconnecting all the time.
I'm waiting for another update to fix these bugs.

I recently upgraded from the Mini 3 Pro to the Air 3 for a lot of these reasons. The 3x lens on the Air 3 and build quality were the main reason for upgrade but the mini felt a bit like a toy to me and flying on windy days and seagulls bullying it was always stressful. With the increased speed, size and some red reflective tape on the Air 3 - birds seem to leave it alone. Wind or no wind - I fly with so much more confidence now.
Is it loud and noisy?
It is only slightly louder than the Mini 3 Pro in my opinion.@@flyzone7441. A lower tone too.
Battery drain occurs when you leave it in the drone OR the charger on the mini 3.
(I'm talking about an unplugged charger or drone. So if you have a carry case but leave the batteries in the charger while in your case. It may seem convent to leave the batteries in the drone or charger but in a day or two they will be empty. Leave them loose in your carry case and they will be good for a few weeks.)
How do you get into see the sensor cameras like you did there?

you have never seen it drain like it because the drone is on the point of tipping over and the camer motor is running like mad, plus the zooming in and out....... get your drone and turn is to the same degree as this one shows in doors in your hand and even without the props turning watch battery drain fast. kepp tilting it level then almost 45 degree thenm level etc etc. the gimbal motor is in over drive like this. the drone battery will get hot as well as not made to have so much current being drained all the time if motors are struggling as well, plus zoom in and out.......... a mini 2 for example just hovering in my front room is 20 minutes from full to auto landing with 8% left on battery.. its easier on the battery if the drone is moving in cine mode with no zooming in and out and no raising and lowering the gimbal.....
I now use the PLUS battery, so much better! 👍👍
Hello. I have a dji mini 4 pro. I fly it in UK. The max distance on the max altitude (120m) is only 1700m, then I completely lose a signal between RC2 AND MY DRONE DJI MININI 4 PRO can someone tell me how to improve the signal( Thanks.
Seeing this I am lost now. I was all set to buy the Dji mini 4 pro but don’t want to be spending this sort of money to only get 30 mins out of three batteries, then go home to charge them again. Now I am thinking do I go for the Dji air 3, but how much is it to get the licence and can I then fly it in the same places as the mini pro 4. Thanks for all advice.
I have the 4 and generally get 25mins per fully charged battery, as Darren has proved it does go down considerably in 'very' windy conditions.
I also recently considered changing to the Air 3 after getting an A2 CofC (about £100) but after checking on the Drone Scene website where they have an online tool that you input what you want to fly, what qualifications you have and where and how close to uninvolved people you want to fly I found despite having the A2 CofC you are still really restricted compared to the mini, so not going to bother.

I went back to v1.12.6. Too many problems with the new app version with Mini 3 pro.
It would disconnect 100m away and auto RTh. The app freezes and I have no control till it reaches 2m from where I am. This Is a very serious issue when taking of on a boat.
Sometimes when it RTH it would fly away on its own and my only option is turn off the controller and let it fly back to home point
DJI smart batteries can be a bit of a pain. If I plan to fly, I generally get up that morning and charge the batteries so I can get max. flight time, although I rarely let them get low enough to RTH...

should of also done a fololow up with the settings in fpv mode toshow just how good the gimbal was doing in this video.

you cannot assess due to the assisting cameras because the important one is the front camera. in this case they’ve just showed you how good the stabilization of the front camera is. the biggest advantage is exactly this very size of the mini 4 pro. to me it‘s awesome how the‘ve managed it how stable the front camera is on a mini drone although the drone is shaking a lot. that‘s actually positive, because if your business is making photos then you still get good photos in windy conditions. in my business i need the best smallest drone because i need something that doesn‘t attract landowners. i don‘t need one loud elephant in the sky which i am not allowed to fly over people with. in my case the mini 4 pro is simply great with many far more important advantages and should there really be too much wind there‘s another hour or day to come. besides, there can also be too much wind for an air 3. the solution is not to buy ever heavier drones, the solution as one landscape photographer is to wait for the best conditions of many weather or light aspects to get the right shot. hence you can also wait for less wind unless you want to do the wind-drone-championships.

Thanks for the informative video. I was a little confused by the title, though. I figured there must be a problem with the update. I was glad to hear there's not. The Mini 4 Pro is kind of my go-to drone, but I always bring the Mavic 3 Classic along on trips in case there's excessive wind, or I see something I might want to print in a large format, and need higher resolution. Nice upgrade on your hat, btw! Hopefully you donated that old one to charity or threw it away. :)

Great video but……Yikes !!! That camera view is terrifying but also a testament of what punishment these little drones can withstand. I took the mini 3 pro out into Manchester midday today, even though the wind appeared to be subsiding gut feeling told me 1. It didn’t feel particularly safe as I’m not sure what it would be gusting at 30mtrs + and 2. Flying near large buildings can create unexpected gusts that can’t be forecast and 3. It’s not much fun flying with wind warnings and having shaky footage ! Always better just to save it for another day👍There’s no DJI setting for gut feeling but sometimes it’s better to follow it👌

@DMProductions The way the Mini 4 Pro withstands all that wind!!! If you can believe it, it actually is still quite steady DESPITE the 25 MPH winds nearly battering it around. Footage still looks great. I have a drone with literally NO stabilization. So if you thought this footage was terrible, the footage from my drone would be horrid!!! Which is why I keep commenting to you that I HAVE to convert to DJI, and Mini 4 Pro I have my sights set on for sure

Battery discharging serves to improve the durability of the batteries and their lifespan. Therefore, always charge it shortly before use. Then you have 100%. You should do this with the batteries even when not in use. Then it is better to use it as a power bank. This high-performance battery type doesn’t like storage at all.

Don't update, i could fly my m4p around my house and yard for practice but after update it won't let me fly because now its a restricted area.

Not that strange, considering the circumstances. The DJI Mini 4 Pro is capable of withstanding 10.7m/s winds, as far as I know. I would be more worried about your incorrect altitude. Seems to be 45-ish meters of, since you made the landing at 45m H.
The only reason i wish I'd kept my mini 3 pro is the batteries held charge longer, they would still be 100% the next day and my transmitter only needed charging ever 3 or 4 times out with it, the mini 4 pro needs charging the day you use it and next day from 100% batteries and transmitter always need a charge
I don’t think you can blame the firmware update for affecting the battery life when you’re flying in windy conditions. You’d have to do a like for like comparison with no wind and fly the same route.
It’s very windy in your videos so it’s going to have a much shorter flight time as it’s fighting the wind the whole time.

Well this is something I'm testing, as since the firmware update the battery drain has been significantly worse on the Mini 4, even today in only 15mph winds/23mph gusts I got 18 mins of flight time using a different fully charged battery.
Interested to hear if you get worse battery drain too 🙂 Prior to this update it was slightly better

Looks like you tested the “standard” battery. In the U.S. we can purchase the “PLUS” battery which extends “rated” flight time from 34 minutes to 45 minutes. (PLUS battery also turns ON Remote ID automatically.)
yeah battery plus is much better and helps with stability , shame it puts it over 250g
your at the coast, wind is mental out in the open anyway, the gusts are there most of the time, that drone done fantastic compared to the weather. to me this shows just how good the gimbal is working and the minidrone is doing extremely well. the normal batter ywill only realy give 22 to 24 minutes in ideal conditions, you had 88% so aonly about 15 minutes max anyway. DO NOT COMPARE the air 3 to the mini 4 in wind that is daft... if you want to fly in strong winds then add a weight of 4 or 5 ounces under the drone. look how fast the big windmill is turning in your video, that wind is a lot more than 25mph constant, no matter what your app is saying. i think the drone done fantastic in that amount of wind, and to be honest i would not of gone up that high..... in all fainess i think that drone done a bloody good job. yes the battery got hammered because your zooming in and out and the gimbakl motor is fighting all the time, the drone motors are fighting all the time too... you got 11 minutes 17 seconds from 70% of the battery , that is very good considering the extreme winds and all the zooming in and out and in sports mode. so a completely full t odead flat would be about 15 minutes of flight time...... now if you do another video on agoodday and do the exact same amount of zooming in and out and exact same flight changinging the look just like this i bet you dont get 20 minutes from the battery from completely full to dead flat.... i think your very lucky the drone did not topple over and switch itself off, that was extremely windy.. it was not just gusts it was wind all the time.... honestly i think that little drone dove very very well......... my mini 2 ona good day i get about 24 minutes at best froma battery, but average is 19 to 20 when zooming in and out plus taking video also drains the battery and taking photos... in high winds im down to 13 to 15 minutes from completely full to when the drone is screaming its comi ng into land so about 8 to 10 %...... so no there is no problem with the mini 4 pro, the problem was extremely windy conditions.
Another problem is that it stays in locating...on the controller that is. The fly app on my phone finds my location in seconds. I mentioned this on another drone channel. It's probably a bug that needs fixing. Are you experiencing that, too?
I love the Mini 4, but the batteries are absolutely atrocious. Next time Dji release a drone and they mention the battery life, I'll laugh out loud, and it's above all, deceitful!
yes I agree its not locating instantly like the phone FLY App even when you have Wifi or Data connection

Flying near mobile phone towers is a sure way to fry your electronics.. I know as I have seen it happen

@@Bravo_the_Jl ya, i don't really need flyspots and i don't want less battery time than it already has so...
For me, I noticed a huge drain in battery when using the view for the side cameras. I didn’t do an official test but between my three batteries that I used when I flew that day, the ones where I never looked at the side cameras seemed like they lasted longer.
In your case I would suspect it is was a combination of the side view cameras, wind, and smart tracking being used. Which is probably what you suspected as well!

I would be just be a little more brighter, don't fly in winds greater than advertised max. The drone is awesome, pilots not so bright 😂
I mean, the battery life is fine if you fly within the drone specs. In fact, I don't approve of people flying in conditions like this near any property. Because it's dangerous you wouldn't fly an airplane outside of its approved specs. Why are we flying another aircraft outside of it it's an unsafe practice
