you can download only the launcher, with the launcher can u have both version installed and other verion like 0.70 / 0.52 .. before u install the launcher deinstall ace of spades but backup your mods (if u have some mods..) then install the BnS launcher and tick 0.75 & 0.76 - aos is now installed in C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Roaming\Build and Shoot\Game Installations
When it was free, everyone insisted that the rifle was completely balanced, even though I was awful at FPS games at the time and I could dominate with the rifle. The only counter was another rifle.
Daniel Kline Most games can be balanced if the skill (or lack of skill) of the players balance out the lack of power (or power) of the characters, but if someone with a random skill level were to pick a weapon, the rifle would do the best by far, and that's the problem.
It seems that most people down here in the comments that are defending the game are like the people from totalbiscuit's pre-order Rant thing, where people will defend the game even though it's terrible and everyone knows it because they believe that they "would never buy a bad game"
I remember once, in the original game, Most of my team decided to topple a mountain. The other team didn't like that plan, because it happened to be the mountain their base was on.so we took shifts mining out the mountain, and defending the miners. Eventually, we disconnected the mountain from the rest of the map, and it collapsed. It was awesome. Community driven fun is always the best.
I basically agreed with what was uttered in this video. How is my opinion "un-thought out"? It is a totally valid opinion, as I enjoyed the more trench warfare-ish battles of the old Ace of Spades, but now there's jet packs and shit...
The old version still exists, and there 3 versions which you can use to play in the servers: Buildnshoot (the OG version), BetterSpades (made my Bytebit, you can check it out on Github, I prefer this among the 3), and OpenSpades.
Yup this game had allot of potential. But no, they had to rip the community in two and slap Ace of Spades on something barely recogniseable to the original. Yes the game may have been improved over the years, but its still a broken game duck taped together. I've found peace at BnS where most of the old community have migrated. I believe its even more popular than this dissapointment. What really took the cake was the missleading advertising showing pics of high res soldiers with new guns and placeables like Machine guns. None of that was apparent at release. Now they have removed those pics of dreams. Lets not mention their dry bones DLC. The only reason I see people playing this game is that its pretty mutch Block of Duty, making the game somewhat unique. Also its childishness. If Jagex had stuck to the original plan of keeping the game simple, not being so thick headed leading to Mat (co-coder of original game) to quit in frustration, and not bullying its community with its stupid modding, map making and server hosting restrictions, this game would certainly be groundbreaking and very successful. Oh, on a final note for you "Better Graphics" twits out there. See videos of "Open Spades". The latest graphical mod for the old AoS by the original community.
The old one was really atmosppheric it made you feel you are very easy to kill and you really needed to construct a barricade. This one is sooo much arcadey
Jagex made Runescape.. I don't think anyone was expecting the makers of that dreadful game to do anything good with Ace of Spades :/ I'm pretty sure everyone thought "oh fuck JAGEX bought Ace of Spades? Well it was fun while it lasted.. time to abandon it for a better game since they're going to ruin it". Jagex is terrible and hasn't made a single good game in their entire history.
What TotalBiscut described, having 5 minutes to build defenses on a flat world, and then fighting...WITHOUT a jet pack class, is exactly what the game was like when it was called "Build and Shoot". In "Build and Shoot", about 3 years ago, the best map was flat and the two teams were super far from each other so you could actually build defenses. There were no classes just 3 different guns to choose from, a shotgun, a machine gun, and a sniper. I don't know why they had to ruin that awesome game.
PPLZ PLZ PLZ PLZ DO THE OLDER VERSION ACTUALLY, DO BOTH OLDER VERSIONS BUILD AND SHOOT AND OPENSPADES!!! (Difference= Openspades is WAY ore beautiful than BAS, But BAS has a bit more mechanics) (The update 0.0.3 for OS you can't crouch jump due to a bug...)
that means if you google "build and shoot" you will find a website you can connect to servers if you have the old version downloaded. If you do not have the old version, you are able to download it there.
TotalHalibut, they don't put the update notes on the steam page, if you check their website, they have made (and are making) some significant patches and content updates. By the way, I'm sure everyone would be glad to know that the next update will reintroduce the classic AoS gameplay mode
This game is TERRIBLE, seriously, regardless of it's original state. Bad art style, pointless building mechanic because its so easily destroyed, terrible balancing issues, and it keep appearing on free weekend every few months WHY?!
Oh yeah and you can also build prebuilt structures such as walls (barricades) to be able to build more quickly. So it doesnt take ages if you want to establish defence as a miner for example.
the link you provided TB for the F2P or last version of the free Ace of Spades doesn't work, as in i can still get the game, but when i try and play it (it plays via browser) it comes with an error screen showing that the website is no longer online or something.
This game has changed in so many ways, in reality you'd benefeit more from re-making a WTF is Ace Of Spades. Simply because the game modes are more balanced, you can't use the rocket pack that long. The amount of snipers makes using the rocket pack somewhat pointless, and there are many many people who build bridges over the whole map! This adds a whole other level of difficulty, you can't just run on the ground forever, they may be above you. Levels like lunar base have less gravity! This adds a whole new aspect. There are good handfuls of people who destroy parts of the map for the sake of making the other team's life more difficult. It works! They actually destroy spawn locations so you have to either rebuild a platform to spawn on or spawn in a hole, ripe for the shooting. Please review this game again.
are you not based in england, TB? i noticed your pings on the US east server list are really low, which i thought was weird cause i thought you did your show from across the pond.
i liked the orignial ace of spades for how simplistic it was. we and my pals would go in as a squad, trying to be really tactical and it actually worked. the small render distance makes it hard to get headshot from a mile away. The digging and building was huge, trenches where spots full of warfare, walls and baracks helped teammates move forward, or give supporting fire, and grenades where death to anyone in a hole. I played the paid version once, and it felt wrong.
so if my video card is just has 64mb of dedicated RAM while the game needs 256 mb of dedicated RAM, while everything else checks out for the minimum requirements, can i still play this game, please respond asap. thank you
This game is still awesome, people need to stop complaining about the fact it's not the old game... I prefer the new version to the old version, however I didn't agree with that when I first got Jagex's version of this game... But now the game has advanced a lot and a lot has changed and fixed a lot of Totalbiscuit's problems with the game. It's a very different game and much more balanced...
The original game was great, I loved how the trench warfare worked because if a trench didn't go where you wanted you could dig a new one, or build barricades and bridges to help your team reach the flag etc.
Also, concerning building, it is better suited for gametypes such as multihill (by far my fav gamemode). The pre-built structures are a life-saver and they are actually quite effective at defending the objective, since the structures block enemy fire for a few hits, allowing you to destroy them from a distance. I think that really a lot of making this game good is playing it well.
His criticisms about the uselessness of building precisely highlight what makes the classic (not Jagex) version so entertaining. In that version, which still exists, things like trenches and walls and towers have practical purposes, and a tunnel may very well be a more effective approach. I have not bought the new version and I don't particularly plan to. But by all means, play the old version! He even linked it in the description.
Fortifications can actually be used to block snipers view, block the flag (makes enemy have to dig through therefore staying in your base longer). Also Rocketeer do not have good weapons compared to the other classes (smg is not so accurate and low clip size with low damage, towers can be destroyed very quickly), making him do quite low damage and little threat to the enemy team. Animations, FPS mechanics, server and other performance issues that is brought up here are spot on however.
When the "normal" Ace of Spades was more popular... My friends and I were skyping while we were playing on a "Bridge-Map"... and we managed to cut the bridge, so we destroyed half of the map, and it was quite funny! :D
It was a free to play, very simple, three different types of guns, rifle, sub machine gun, and something else, can't remember, I always used the rifle. It was made to run on any computer, so anybody could play it, and all the servers were heavily community based and a lot of trench warfare went on, and people built bunkers and tunnels, it just worked really well, and this seems to have removed the whole thing.
In Classic, my favourite thing to do was build a camouflage bunker overlooking a strategic point, color matched to my player color, and pick off a dozen enemies before they realized what was happening...
Old version... OH THE BEAUTY! It was so simple to add skins, and make the game look way better, and also the guns were simple. Also, like Falcon said, the maps were EPIC! The museum hallway was awesome and Favela had some elements of parkour
I remember the old one... The best match I ever played... Titanic, icebergs to the sides. I would climb onto the Titanic and bring out my rifle, taking on the siege of red soldiers (It was modded for a RED team). Jesus Christ, it was so fun... WAS so fun.
This game needs "blueprints" like instructions for a Lego set. They will allow you to build defenses like turrets, drones, and traps. An AA Turret blueprint would counteract the Jetpack. Of course there would need to be some sort of building resource mechanic so that you don't have a million turrets all over the place. Also, there should be a time limit at the beginning that lets you place things. You would have to strategize. Add a feature similar to that, I will get this game.
Years ago, it was about building trenches and forts and giants statues of the blue soldier model in unflattering positions, in a tense environment where you could die at any time. Then it became filled with SMGs and Shotguns, and faster paced, and some vets saw it coming. From new pacing to killstreaks, pre-made maps, deathcams, radar, the old community gave way to the new. Now even the new kids hate what it's become. AoS : 2010 ;_;7
For any one who was wondering about how to play the original you go to BuildAndShoot website and click on one of the servers after you download the game.Thumbs so people can see.
I bought this game the day it came out. I had expectations that it would be like the original: able to run on many computers, focused on teamwork (some people build, some people fight), and updated fairly regularly. Not a single one of those have been met. Needless to say, when I couldn't play a game that's a bunch of blocks but I could play half life 2 on full settings, I was really pissed. These complaints are fully justified and help steer people away from bad products like this.
this game handles just as well, even better in SOME aspects then the original in my opinion. 1st, the graphics were improved. 2nd, the shooting feels the same. 3rd, it really does depend on the community to say "play tactical" or "yeah! EAT LED!". A couple of times, I've gone on servers and seen mechanisms that involve a player digging one block then having things fall and be destroyed, revealing trenches and cover, and people escorted. And to think, people say the tactical aspect was removed.
I played the game when it was free. You could have a rifle or smg and there were no rockets so building was a heavy part of the game and we used to build bunkers that allowed you to shoot out but you could hide from most enemy's shots
Considering what you said on design. I'd like to point towards something Build and Shoot has. On build and shoot there are maps where each team spawns far from the capturing point and are on islands. The water surrounding the islands is deadly and as such you need to work together to build not only defenses, but bridges to reach your objective while fending off enemies. If the new Ace of Spades had something like that I'd be inclined to play. But the jetpack kind of ruins the whole premise.
They recently created a classic/ww1 content update which is aimed at providing a game experience more similar to the original AoS. It is not an exact replica, but it is much better. :)
You really should go back and listen once again to his statement. He made it clear that aesthetics are great WHEN it fits with the context. There's a stark difference.
For every one hating on the game and calling it trash, I see where you are coming from, and compared to the original, you are extremely correct, but I still feel that the game is decent enough. I still enjoy a few games every so often, though it is not nearly as fun as the original :P I would say get it if it is on sale, but I don't think it is smart to make a full price purchase. Stick to the free version until then
Also, the wall building could be balanced by speeding it up in the same way that they speed the digging - just have the ability to place, e.g. 2x2x4 block walls...
Everything you say reflects my view of this game. The old one is great and I still play it from time to time. Its much more based on building than this.
The Goonswarm map was the best! It was a flat long rectangle map. Bases and walls would spring up man made and you could even be pushed back so far that a base you made was occupied by your enemy
I think this game would have been instantly better if they decided to go with a medieval tech level. No shotguns to demolish creations in a matter of seconds, no jetpacks or explosives, but rather bows and swords like in minecraft.
Can't say I've played the game, but I feel like the following would help a lot: Remove or nerf the jetpack thing Make it so that the blocks a player places can't be destroyed or take a lot longer to be destroyed. What he said about adding 5 minutes before the game to build and THEN attack, is also a good idea.
As for the original: Google BuildAndShoot(dot)com. TB gave you a download link, but BuildAndShoot allows you to download the game and play it online within the old community.
Jetpack guy could be a really good idea if it was balanced, i.e. very very little HP, fairly weak weapon. Then it'd be something to use just for special operations getting over the wall, maybe plant a mine, and escape, but the defenses would still be useful to stop the heavier weapons getting through
I played enough of the beta to know I wanted to see what the final product would be like, but this seems such a mystifying backwards step. Just hope the old version is available somewhere.
NOTE: To anyone saying "Jagex ruined it!!" The free version of the game was just like this. It was a shitty broken game back then and it's a shitty broken game now.
Anyone who know how to build (don't make a tower with a few blocks of support?) could house the flag so that it was almost impossible for the other team to get it without cooperation. Building was definitely useful.
So the only thing I got from this was that if you have a jet pack in the game there should be no reason to encorporate anything that the jetpack could easily maneuver around.... Also there's a build aspect in the game because you can destroy terrain. So even if the jetpack can be of any defenses it can't go through say a solid building. Thus you need a miner to get past it easily. And you can build terrain in order to maneuver better. Like a bridge.
Rocketier is OP... Take it from someone who's played the game, you need less than 15 basically insta fire bullets from his SMG to kill ANYTHING, The Turrent is pretty OP cuz Insta Kills (It's basically a lvl 3 sentry from TF2 that turns slowly and only fires rockets [ridiculously high HP]) And just the whole Jetpack thing...
honestly the original free version was just so much better
you can still play it ;)
at: Buildandshoot.com/
and it's still free

Zach Dane There used to be a thanks there ._.

Jagex did nothing but absolutely butcher this beautifully simple game. It's a real shame.
Just because you don't have it doesn't mean it's not good.
Jokercity I have the game. It is absolutely horrendous.
007kingifrit
Runescape was always shit as a game, as a visual IM it was okay though, met a few real life GFs via it lol.
DoomedTVN I found it pretty entertaining in the olden days. It was one of the first MMOs and there was a giant world to explore.
Man i love build and shoot. Its too bad the server are filled with nothing but hallway. I'm so sick of that map.
This makes me miss you Totalbiscuit.
R.I.P. Ace of Spades. Jagex took you and murdered you. Brutally.
Daniel Kline Yeah I know, but it would be nice if the Original game got support.
I Love the older free version. And OpenSpades
AOS didnt die, it was murdered.
This was latest comment. Sorry for late reply lol
When it was free, everyone insisted that the rifle was completely balanced, even though I was awful at FPS games at the time and I could dominate with the rifle. The only counter was another rifle.

The old ace of spades is renamed to "Build and Shoot", so you guys can stop complaining about not having the old one back.
Wow, it's incredible how egregiously they fucked this up.
Actually it is WAY better than this now, it is extremely fun even for solo players like me.
Crazyman1300 hehehehehe........NO
Crazyman1300 It's still shit compared to what it was before.

Well, it's about time this video came out.
I mean, AoS has only been out for like two weeks by the time this video was released.
So, will he upload a video of this first impressions of Ace of Spades: Good Edition?
The original game was great, I loved how the trench warfare worked because if a trench didn't go where you wanted you could dig a new one, or build barricades and bridges to help your team reach the flag etc.
Also, concerning building, it is better suited for gametypes such as multihill (by far my fav gamemode). Regarding weapon recoil, it worked in the original AOS. In the new one, it can't work since it's made with non voxel graphics...
Guys, there is a new client of Ace Of Spades 0.75 called OpenSpades. You can have the graphic qualify of Fagex AOS verion in the classic free version!
In Classic, my favourite thing to do was build a camouflage bunker overlooking a strategic point, color matched to my player color, and pick off a dozen enemies before they realized what was happening...
So, are there servers that disable the jetpack?

Geez I dread to think what he thinks of brickforce. -sees WTF Is... - Brickforce? In the suggested videos list- Ohhh boy this is gonna be good.
this game handles just as well, even better in SOME aspects then the original in my opinion.
Whats so different between this and the free version?
Beta of AoS runs on the Voxlap engine made by Ken Silverman. 1.0 runs on OpenGL IRC.
Stick to the free version until then
can i get the new ace of spades if I had the older version before the new one came out
Also, the wall building could be balanced by speeding it up in the same way that they speed the digging - just have the ability to place, e.g. 2x2x4 block walls...
What is your ending song Biscuit?
Everything you say reflects my view of this game.
The old one is great and I still play it from time to time. Its much more based on building than this.
i remember when this game was an awesome free 2 play, arcadey shooter. and i had so much fun with that little shooter :P
ik ive been playing that so much recently
The Goonswarm map was the best! It was a flat long rectangle map. Bases and walls would spring up man made and you could even be pushed back so far that a base you made was occupied by your enemy
Can anyone tell me why, in Ace of Spades, i dont have crosshairs?
I think this game would have been instantly better if they decided to go with a medieval tech level. No shotguns to demolish creations in a matter of seconds, no jetpacks or explosives, but rather bows and swords like in minecraft.
Can't say I've played the game, but I feel like the following would help a lot:
Remove or nerf the jetpack thing
Make it so that the blocks a player places can't be destroyed or take a lot longer to be destroyed.
What he said about adding 5 minutes before the game to build and THEN attack, is also a good idea.
As for the original: Google BuildAndShoot(dot)com. TB gave you a download link, but BuildAndShoot allows you to download the game and play it online within the old community.
guys you can still play ace of spades on build-and-shoot,com its not dead yet, dont let it die!
Even the latest version of that wasn't very good though, but the community and the fact that it was free to play were really good
Jetpack guy could be a really good idea if it was balanced, i.e. very very little HP, fairly weak weapon. Then it'd be something to use just for special operations getting over the wall, maybe plant a mine, and escape, but the defenses would still be useful to stop the heavier weapons getting through
Any way you could do a video on the original version of AoS? It still has a pretty active community and personally I find it a lot more fun.
I played enough of the beta to know I wanted to see what the final product would be like, but this seems such a mystifying backwards step. Just hope the old version is available somewhere.
there is also the old game mode now included if you already bought it
NOTE: To anyone saying "Jagex ruined it!!" The free version of the game was just like this. It was a shitty broken game back then and it's a shitty broken game now.
Anyone who know how to build (don't make a tower with a few blocks of support?) could house the flag so that it was almost impossible for the other team to get it without cooperation. Building was definitely useful.
you can use the old version on : buildandshoot
So the only thing I got from this was that if you have a jet pack in the game there should be no reason to encorporate anything that the jetpack could easily maneuver around.... Also there's a build aspect in the game because you can destroy terrain. So even if the jetpack can be of any defenses it can't go through say a solid building. Thus you need a miner to get past it easily. And you can build terrain in order to maneuver better. Like a bridge.
The drill cannon is also op, it can get into bunkers is minutes. Which also defeats building
Somebody needs to tell TB that you do these things For Fun.
Music at the end?
Rocketier is OP...
Take it from someone who's played the game, you need less than 15 basically insta fire bullets from his SMG to kill ANYTHING,
The Turrent is pretty OP cuz Insta Kills (It's basically a lvl 3 sentry from TF2 that turns slowly and only fires rockets [ridiculously high HP])
And just the whole Jetpack thing...
