6 is ok. It's not dreadful, but it's not quite up to par with the others. It is VERY pretty though and has a wonderful soundtrack. Honestly I'd play Zero (Belkan War), it's definitely my favorite of the bunch. X Skies of Deception on PSP was good to.
RIP. Its 2022 and your still missed. (I wish UA-cam would stop making me change my memorial comment every 20-ish videos or so. when did they implement this new annoyance?)
The purpose of the Idol M@ster! skin is that Namco Bandai also makes the games of Idol M@aster!(the anime is base off of the game though not entirely) and that Hasegawa (Japanese plastic model kit company) also make some limited water decal version of actual fighters with an Idol M@ster! theme. Just for info.
Try Ace Combat Infinity, not even Scamco's greed F2P can hide the beautiful game that Project Aces so desperately want to make. You also get those cinematic fly through the city everything blowing up around you moments without DFM mode as some enemy planes evade missiles inside cities and you can chase them down in there if you are daring enough. At first I thought DFM was an affront, the concept itself was okay, but it's the way it's forced on you, some aces will pop infinite flares and literally the only way to kill them is through machine guns or DFM. That's not cool. I would be okay if DFM is part of flight assist that you can disable in Ace Combat 7 if that ever happens.
There are a LOT of things that they removed that they shouldn't have. Things like superweapons, anit-war plots, and overall quality. Yep, can't get that in AH.
Well, after only 8:44 minutes of the video I can safelly assume that total biscuit has messed up and is infact playing some sort of call of duty... come on TB, get your shit together man...
Ace Combat 4 and 5 are two of my favourite games I ever had the pleasure of playing. Megalith Agnus Dei and The Unsung War accompanying their two final missions respectively in the soundtrack are enough to bring tears to your eyes depending on how invested in the story you were. The way both these titles conveyed their story and emotion strikes a chord with me in a way most Western titles don't. I haven't played an Ace Combat since 5, so I'm hoping the next game takes it back in that direction.
i dont know what that is but if you look up videos about the director and producers of ac:ah they say this is not the seventh of the series thats why they say it is the rebirth.
Not sure if Nostalgia is the correct word. Assault Horizon is just a completely different game with completely different game play. The biggest problem with the game, is that it's called Ace Combat, and the game didn't live up to the expectations of the name. It's a lot like getting the next Madden game and finding that it's a soccer game. Even if it's a great Soccer game, it isn't what you expected from a Madden title.
太陽ダビデ I am an AC fan myself as well and ACAH was alright but not near as good enough as the previous Ace combat games. Ace combat 3 was one of the best ones I've played (PS1)
AH was 30fps and it actually lagged at times... Goddamnit consoles. Not to talk about Infinity being a PS3 exclusive. Yeah, F2P, filthy microtransactions etc, but it would still have a bigger market on PC, and it would not have to compete with the usual COD annual release and some of the exclusives, particularily for future releases. And yes, it is an experiment, and a failed one. Ace Combat used to be the modern version of ancient epic poems, now it's just another COD "realistic modern military shooter"... Please Namco fix this shit. And not with a F2P game, as good as it may be, I want a real story-driven AC game. Also, 6:54, you can't really say you never expected that, it's still a japanese game afterall... Oh, and the reason you didn't hate DFM is because you have never tried to replay the game... many of the enemy leaders force you into DFM and force you to follow an arbitrary path, taking no damage until you arrive at the "cool" point of the rail segment where they die in one shot... This is of course much more noticeable on a second playthrough.
Ace combat infinity is coming out soon, and it seems like they have thrown alway all of the aspects from assault horizon. because i played the ps3 beta. total biscuit if you get a chance to play a beta for it on a console, you will not be disappointed.
........Its ACE COMBAT........ Its not a sim, its a silly anime as fuck arcade game.Which is why its massively popular. Go play DCS if you want realistic physics based flight.
I am not sure if they changed this game with a patch, but it natively supports a whole host of joysticks and flightsticks/setups. I plugged in a Logitech Attack from the 90s, and it automatically mapped everything from the getgo. This game even supports under-the-desk paddles. Also, you can turn off DFM, and fight the bosses normally. And you can skip the helicopter/turret levels now.
it is skillful because if you hit an ally you have to go back to the last checkpoint and that is a cool thing. in this game when you die you dont restart the whole mission.
the air combat mode in this is great but i do agree on the helicopter and turret mode those are not fun there should have been more missions with aircrafts
Worth noting that TB is wrong here, you can play it with a mouse, the controls for that is very similar to how it might be in Battlefield. It works. But it isn't set up by default, you have to enable mouse flight and bind the axes first. 4:52 mouse steering on/off
I disagree about DFM, and not because I'm an AC vet. Prior to DFM, it was not about simply locking on and firing a missile or getting close enough for guns, it was about learning your enemies' fighting style, their patterns, deciding when to strike, and each enemy Ace has their own style. DFM strips that experience away. Don't get me wrong, DFM seemed interesting from the trailers, and I actually liked it in the very beginning, but I felt it didn't deliver. Especially the battle with Akula.
Just watched the trailer, at around 30 seconds in there is a timer that stops at 2019, so that could be a hint. It nearly confirms the future stuff along with the general style of the trailer and I'm always up for some shooting in the future.
What I want in Ace Combat 7 >Keep those graphics or improve it >Remove that DFM/ASM crap. >Superfighters >Superweapons >Remove those Helicopter missions. >Named Aces and Assault records >Please in the name of God, remove the AC-130 mission >And finally, set in Strangereal. That's all I have to say.
Man i remember having one of these games on PS2, but most of the missions involved destroying tanks, vehicles, buildings, radio towers and stuff, when you got into a dog fight, it was like almost a boss battle, you needed to beat them to leave the area after fucking up there ground support.
As a Swede, quite proud that you like our plane! :) The Saab Gripen is named after a mythological flying creature that looks like a eagle with a lions body. Symbolises the devil in Christianity. THe translated name is griffin. Thought you might like the trivia. :P
Yep, it was pretty much a contest going on here in Norway. The teams behind The Eurofighter, Gripen and the F35 each got their hangar where they could place items that related to their plane, It makes me wonder, maybe the choice of the plane was based on what we civillians thought was the coolest.
The problem I had with AH was the fact that it took control away from you. Plain and simple. Like in AC 5, the first mission and many after that start with you flying in formation with your squadron. Things like that not only broke up the pacing, but made you feel more connected to the characters and the world while making you also feel more in control. They took anything like that away in AH, having most missions start you in the thick of it.
If the people who are interested in this game want to check out a true Ace Combat dogfight mission from previous Ace Combat games, I suggest the Shattered Skies mission from Ace Combat 4. The opening of the mission features the most planes in any one dogfight in the entirety of the game, followed by a section where you are required to shoot down a squadron of B-2's, then return to the dogfight. The setting for the mission is that you are protecting a satellite as it launches from an allied base.
It works with Logitech extreme d3 pro, although the game design was not meant to have the full movement to utilized the control's range.

I really identified with this video TB. Having played since AC4, it's can only be a good thing that the franchise is expanding to PC as well. As for Assault Horizon's new additions I was happy with the game, and enjoyed it as best I could. Even had some fun with the turret and helicopter segments. To be honest the thing I miss the most and hope that really returns in the next game is the world. The Strangereal universe really had some potential and I always got engrossed its tales.
Me too. Would watch the whole mission over again with triangles. Seeing stuff you didn't realize you did, how many planes were after you... soo awsome.
I like TB because he usually makes a good argument for himself, and he really analyses the moves the industry is making as a whole, it is a really easy place to get a general idea of what is going on. I also like it when he mentions random videogames that i just found somewhere as a kid and thought no one knew
Thank you, TotalBiscuit for being sensible about Assault Horizon. I am a MAJOR Ace Combat fan. 4, 5 and Zero were absolutely phenominal. Heck, I even consider 6 to be on par with traditional Ace Combat games. Assault Horizon, however, should have never been made. I get that NamcoBandai wanted "the call of duty" audience. But if there's something Ace Combat DOESN'T need, is any form of Call of Duty in its games. Hell, it stood its ground just fine without any Call of Duty influence up until now
AC2's last mission had you blow up an enemy doomfortress by flying inside it and blowing up it's missiles. However, the last two mission were gated depending on how you performed in the conventional final mission (shoot down the enemy ace in mission 20 to unlock mission 21, complete mission 21 within the very short timer to unlock mission 22 and fly underground through enemy doomfortress)
I agree with everything TB said with the exception of his opinion on the dogfight mode. I'm one of those Ace Combat players who doesn't want it around. I just feel like the dogfight mode takes away some of the challenge in defeating the better enemies. Good video TB. It was interesting to hear your opinion.
The only pet-peeve I have about Ace Combat is the number of ordinance to what you could fire. For instance in AC 6 the A-10 had fuel air bombs and you carried five on your aircraft but only two can be dropped at a time. I think there should at least be an option for it.
Oke, I stopped at 07:36 because I have a few things to say. First, there is Joystick support. I play this game on my old Microsoft SideWinder and it works perfectly. The "Controller" settings also involve sticks. Secound, there is a free view mode for the aircraft. You have to finish the campagin, then go to Player Archive and there should be "Aircarft Hangar" or something allong the line. There you can freely examin your planes and even change their skincolor using the presets as patterns.
I did but i actually thought of it as a futuristic trailer, a post apocalyptic one, which gives room for thousands of future planes. It might be in real world but the place isn't what matters, the time is, and to me it seemed like it took place in far future. But that's just me...i have high hopes for this one actually, i am hyped and worried at the same time, so i'll just think optimistic.
Hey, at least this game got the cameo skins. When Namco brought Tales of Graces over to the US they stripped every cameo outfit (aside from ones to other Tales games) from it, meaning no badass Lelouch outfit for Richard in the US no matter what.
True that. Even though it isn't a straight up "sim", but your point stands. If the main point of the game is to fly a plane, it NEEDS to have joystick support. Preferable good support for stuff like pedals, throttles (and not just simple 4-button joystick. Throttle is an axis, not two buttons...)
Another great video TB, I wonder are there any of these games on the 360 or pc? other than this "Try hard", and if so which one is best? Also what sound level do you put your mic and games too? I can never get it right :/
12:17 - Dude, I think you're talking about Ace Combat Zero's last mission aka Zero where Cipher and Pixy were fighting in Avalon and the Deathstar the you were talking is the ADFX-02 Morgan, I guess
I think it was a good and informative video TB. Personally Ive never played an Ace Combat game, but I can sort of see where youre coming from. Seeing as this is your personal feelings about the game, I dont see why people get so agitated by them, you stated it clairly in the beginning of the video. Anyways, keep up the great work. Love your videos!
TotalBiscuit. You are the best for being a fan of Ace Combat. I am such a fan of the game serious. Hearing about Ace Combat Assault Horizons on PC made me gitty with joy, but now that I hear your review, I am thinking about passing on this. I don't like health regen or the rail missions. The dog fight mode sounds cool. When I saw the IdolM@aster colors for the jets, I thought it was a mod at first. Not the kind of colors I would put in the game. Ace Combat 4 is still the best imo.
Those are some good moments... Another favorite of mine was in AC4, one of the later mission where you had to escort the civilian aircraft with defectors on-board. That mission... I felt like such a boss when all the chatter indicated lot of confusion and fear that they only sent one aircraft for this escort, then you proceed to facestomp everything and everyone is like "OMG mobius one is so pro ZOMG".
you talkd about that space ship at 12 minutes, I believe it could have been in the first one, tho it was called Air Combat. man I loved that game on my playstation. so awesome!
Idolmaster series is a idol raising simulator with a massive following, the skins have more then likely made up a substantial of the game DLC in the console versions. However currently only available in japanese but a successful anime has given it a stable following overseas.
Ace combat 2 was so damn fun, its definately in my top 3 PS1 games. It was all about getting all the cool planes, killing all the 'named' enemies, and flying under or through any gap/hole/bridge/between buildings and generally feeling like a complete boss.
I feel like TB's comment at the start of the video was spot-on. That his reaction to Ace Combat is what the fan's reaction was to DmC. They changed a lot of things, and not necessarily for the better, but it's still an okay game.
But he didn't left out the pros. He had fun with it as well and he shown that, but I understand your point of view. I'm gonna pick this up on a Steam sale in the future. I played my share of Ace Combat series and I like it. So for everyone that hesitates: the game is definitely worth picking up.
My biggest issue with the dogfight mode was the enemies that they force you to sit through the entire chase before they explode, regardless of the number of hits on them. It basically turns the "boss fights" into strings of QTEs.
Oh boy, another stop at 17:45. Power Play is an AIRCARFT mission. The one where you fight Jets and Bombers over Dubai. The turret mission was after that, also you quit that mission maybe two minutes before the end of it.
Noooo, for those scripted segments you are forced into dogfight mode to progress the mission, and you can't change the 3rd person view around. Also depends on what missile you have selected or if you're firing your guns. You can go first person, and it won't be too dynamic but it will zoom in significantly front what I remember

R.I.P. total biscuit you are missed.
When he said 'SIN' Does he mean S.i.N Emergence? That one game IG played that made it popular?
Thank you, TotalBiscuit for being sensible about Assault Horizon.
I am a MAJOR Ace Combat fan. 4, 5 and Zero were absolutely phenominal. Heck, I even consider 6 to be on par with traditional Ace Combat games. Assault Horizon, however, should have never been made. I get that NamcoBandai wanted "the call of duty" audience. But if there's something Ace Combat DOESN'T need, is any form of Call of Duty in its games. Hell, it stood its ground just fine without any Call of Duty influence up until now
@6:20, trading cards and planes? Sounds like total biscuit heaven.
Ace Combat Zero:BW was one of my fav games. The fight with Pixy is something i will always remember as a gamer.
Press and hold LT to zoom in on a target.
Fire with RT during zoom to increase attack efficiency and accuracy.
I think I got it right the first time then.
Yes, all standalone. Start with 4, and if you like it, work up to 5, Zero, and lastly 6. Each mechanically improves on the last.
Those are some good moments...
Another favorite of mine was in AC4, one of the later mission where you had to escort the civilian aircraft with defectors on-board. That mission...
I felt like such a boss when all the chatter indicated lot of confusion and fear that they only sent one aircraft for this escort, then you proceed to facestomp everything and everyone is like "OMG mobius one is so pro ZOMG".
you talkd about that space ship at 12 minutes, I believe it could have been in the first one, tho it was called Air Combat. man I loved that game on my playstation. so awesome!
I completely agree with the turret mode mission. Why... Why would you do such a thing...
Idolmaster series is a idol raising simulator with a massive following, the skins have more then likely made up a substantial of the game DLC in the console versions. However currently only available in japanese but a successful anime has given it a stable following overseas.
You can, you have to go into the options menu and change the controls from optimal to classic
so they were going to go with the HAWX way of doing aerial combat game...
Ace combat 2 was so damn fun, its definately in my top 3 PS1 games. It was all about getting all the cool planes, killing all the 'named' enemies, and flying under or through any gap/hole/bridge/between buildings and generally feeling like a complete boss.
Sad we lost another wingman.
If Namco really want to revive AC series they should create a great story like AC5, because story is what makes AC series different than any other!!!
My biggest issue with the dogfight mode was the enemies that they force you to sit through the entire chase before they explode, regardless of the number of hits on them. It basically turns the "boss fights" into strings of QTEs.
EXACTLY. From time to time its a nice optional extra, but they made it the central part of the gameplay.
Just have to say my man... I love the content you put out!
