Bad Timing-Steve & Nancy

I really wanted to focus on the fact that I do think timing was Steve and Nancy's biggest problem. In the beginning, they both really liked each other, but then Nancy was just consumed with so much guilt over Barb's death. She wasn't in the right headspace to be with Steve because she always associated their relationship with her death. Coupled with the fact that Steve was still pretty superficial and immature and she and Jonathan were growing closer due to a trauma bond over their missing loved ones, I think the timing for them was just not right. But now, they have both grown so much and the timing could finally be right.

I really hope Murray and Steve/ Nancy get an interaction next season. When Murray said “We like Steve, but we don’t love Steve”, it’s bc he never met the guy and it was during a time where Nancy and Jonathan developed feelings for each other.
It would be really interesting to see Murray’s viewpoint about the development of Steve’s character.

I really don't like Murray the Marriage Counselor and His Unsolicited Love Advice... as a writing choice, it feels lazy. But to be consistent with his character, he would definitely have more to say if all 3 of them were in the room together. I wonder if he would say he was wrong about Stancy and try to explain why they should get together again, or if he'd explain why Nancy is being pulled back to Steve but insist that he's just an obstacle for Jonathan. Basically, he'd say whatever te writers want us to believe, but it doesn't mean it is or isn't true. I'd rather for once Nancy tell him what SHE thinks.

Having Murray's first scene be him ( a middle-aged stranger ) actively trying to convince two teenagers that they want to, and should, bang on his pullout couch... that always made me REALLY dislike the character. And I still do, because holy schnikes that's REALLY WEIRD and that hasn't gotten any less weird over time.
but after having *so many* rude Jancy shippers go on about "Murray was right!! He was right about them like he was right about Jopper!!", I'm actually very interested in seeing his reaction to Jonathan, Nancy, and Steve now. and I wonder how the Jancy fans will feel about him once he sees Nancy and Jonathan in the same room and immediately calls them out in some ridiculous way like "okay, the awkward tension between you two needs to go, because it's making it awkward for everyone around you. at least one of you is lying, and I'm just going to assume it's the one that started smoking pot to have an excuse to shut off his brain and not deal with reality.", or even better, when he finally meets Steve ( and lbr, he's going to be impressed by him, because all signs point to Murray being impressed by anybody who surprises him ) and possibly change his tune because it's clear that Steve and Nancy are a way better fit than the two kids he met 2 years ago. I just... wonder if Murray will still be right then. :)

@@ohifonlyx33 YES, sheesh, as a Nancy fan it frustrates me SO much that the Duffers literally - and I mean literally - never let her make decisions about her relationships for herself, or even express how she actually feels about ..well, just about anything, after she made the choice to hang with Steve instead of leaving with Barb.
And honestly? It almost reads like she's being punished just for actively pursuing the hot guy that was obviously really into her. Because like, she was bold, and went to the party knowing she might get to hook up with this dude, and fully embraced and was even excited about it, because why not?? Why wouldn't she be?? There was no shame in it. And it's... y'know, perfectly reasonable for a teenager to want to hook up lol But the shame came after, when Barb disappeared that same night.
And obviously the "punishment" is an in-character thing, in that "oh god, I effed up, I decided to hang out with a guy instead of leaving the party because my friend got bored, and now she's dead." so she's going to question herself, even down to how she spends her time and who she spends it with. But even OOCly, on a writing level, when it came to her relationships and even her feelings in general after that point, she's never given the opportunity to make choices for herself.
First offense is when Jonathan provides the name of who Murray assumes is the "safe choice" ( he's not and never was, but that's a whole other discussion ) aka the safety blanket she's using to avoid being ~true to herself ( how the hell would he know who she really is and if she's pretending? ugh ), then Murray uses that to INSIST that she clearly doesn't love Steve ( even though he has literally no reason to believe that ), and then by the end of the season, when she FINALLY has some time with Steve to maybe clear the air? Talk at all, at least? Something? He makes the decision of who she "picked" for her. Insists that he goes with her, and that it's okay, before she even says a word about it. Which... was obviously self defense for him, in a way - if he doesn't give her a chance to say what he believes she'll say, he won't have to hear it and get his heart broken even worse - but it still completely took away Nancy's right to actually express her thoughts/feelings on the whole thing.
... It's like 2am so I dunno if any of that made sense, but yea. TLDR I agree, and I hope s5 gives us Nancy actually, finally, expressing how she feels. About anything at all, beyond their monster-related "mission"/goal of the season. lol

      For Jancy it was Murray.
      For Stancy it was Eddie.
I think Murray and Eddie were just saying what they saw, but to me they don't know the whole story.
Dustin and Robin are the only two characters who know the full story of Steve, Nancy, and Jonathan's love triangle.
And I think that Robin until the end of S3 and the beginning of S4 knew next to nothing about Jonathan and Nancy, just what Steve had told her, I feel like every time Robin talked to Nancy, she was getting information about her and her relationship with jonathan (That part where Robin says, "I know you two are going to college together" made me wonder how Robin knew about this, obviously Steve told her). Robin didn't ship Steve and Nancy directly, she just looked and made indirect comments to Nancy lol
And Dustin, he knows the whole story because Steve told him.

I think ss4 Stancy is right person right time aslo. Jancy reunited in last ep doesn't mean they will be together cuz I can see the awkward between them. Nance needs to be with Jo to recognize who she truly loves, Stancy ❤️

If you told me at any point before S4 that I'd be rooting for these two to get back together, I would not have believed you. Absolutely gorgeous video.

Exactly. I was a full on jancy shipper from season 1, so much that the idea of stancy was icky. But now if stancy doesn’t happen I’ll riot

Such great editing, and perfect song choice! I thought these two would be forever lost to bad timing, but was so surprised (and thrilled!) this season to see that, just maybe, they aren’t. I was not a Steve fan in season one, but he’s now one of my favorite characters. He and Nancy now have this more mature, yet electric chemistry, and I can’t wait to see it evolve more next season. Great work!

These two love birds right there just discovered they have still feellings for each other and people are blaming them for no reason. I think their reconnection is very sweet and pure. Especially Steves Confession that deep down he never stopped loving Nancy, was just heartwarming to hear! i love them.

Personally, I don’t want them to get BACK together but I agree with Steve’s sentiment, if they hadn’t dated prior to season 4 and instead were just friends who had a falling out I would definitely be rooting for them to get together. I have hope they will get together but I actually really hope they both move on and stop pining for each other the way they do this most recent season.
