OMG. This has been one of my favorite things since it first magically appeared on HBO twelve thousand years ago. I thank you passionately for posting it!
"Down to my shop, where I have a few tools, let see, I have my crescent wrench and tweezers." Holy shit, I've been trying to remember where that came from for 30 years.
i'm just gonna go ahead and say it: Chris Guest is a goddamn genius. i DID always wonder why Martin Short wasn't part of 'Spinal Tap' or Guest's other ensemble movies like 'Wating For Guffman', or 'Best In Show'.
Yeah, I agree. I think there could have easily been a place in the Tap movie for Marty as a Nathan Thurm-type character, like the Tap's scurrilous lawyer or something like that. Maybe as a performer they support on their theater tour, like a Jackie Rogers, Jr. type, "with Spinal Tap" supporting?
in an interview Guest said Marty (and Billy Crystal) were too “big” of stars, he said it wouldn’t work, he wanted lesser known comedians for these movies
The first time I saw the plastic surgery sketch was when my dad taped it off the Tonight Show (Short was showing it to promote the special). I laughed so hard I could barely breathe and watched it many times over the next few months.
I saw this comedy special when it first aired (on Cinemax, I believe) and I taped it. I had the tape for years and friends would roar with laughter - especially over this section with Guest & Short as the Hollywood gossip columnist. So damn funny
Dude I've been looking for those Scrapco Metal videos for like 10-12 years now ??? "You can't tell me that a girl who plays the tuba, doesn't have a boyfriend somewhere ? hahahahaha I got it… hahahahahaha
Short and Guest played such great Fruitcakes when no one took offense from it and just knew it was funny. Were Antoninus and Chip De Mentabella (The gay choreographer Guest adapted into Corky St. Claire for WAITING FOR GUFFMAN) lovers or brothers?
Thank YOU!!! I miss this soooo much, totally chris guest's precursor to Corky!!!
She is always well-coiffed, and also her hair looks beautiful.
I looked for this clip for SO LONG! It makes me howl with laughter!!
"Oh its miss Liza Minnelli , oh I'm going over! Going over!" "I am just getting loopty loop loop" This was my favorite VHS as a kid. Love this.
I think Miss Lisa Hartman is glamorous, and I'll tell you why. She is always well-coiffed, and also her hair looks beautiful.
😂😂😂
fucking greatest line ever
I am 53, I remember watching this on VHS a billion times

I watch this over and over again, never fails to get me cackling.
"I have a couple tools, I have a crescent wrench and...a pair of tweezers." So good.

That has stuck in my head since I first saw it as a kid. Absolutely hilarious.

He was in SCTV at the time, just too Canadian to book.

It's true they are big stars. Also Short cannot downplay his style of acting and might just not click as e.g. a manic A&R man etc. Or haberdasher.
"papa? What'sa wood burning tool." LOL

He grew into that suit and changed his name to Jiminy Glick.
Wow,rally romantic and funny.
Jiminy Glick's less fortunate brother. 'What did I just say?.'...

Precursor to Jiminy Glick?

P.S. WHENEVER ONE SEES A SUFFRAGETTE THEY'RE ALWAYS ACTUALLY WOMEN.THEY'RE NEVER FAKE WOMEN.
Dang, this would NOT fly today
Martin knew about Michael.
Don’t bother, ladies. They’re both married to two very lucky women.
Ha ha ha ... excellence.
Corky!!! And Jiminy before he got bitter about the Biz!
How did you get such a clean copy of this Marty Short masterpiece. I wore out my vhs from my childhood. Not once to miss a Martin Short special.
Even gay people know these guys got it right.
Corky? Is that you?

Dont know how tlhis Short guy was kept on in tv shows, he's the least funny "comedian" this side of Richard Nixon. He's always silly, never funny!
Chris Guest!
