Guest is maybe the only guest I’ve ever seen sit next to Norm and not get interrupted by him. I think he earned Norm’s respect (if he didn’t already have it) with the “Sailors ahoy!” gift to Andy
He was Harry Bailey, Mary Bailey Hatch's younger brother in the 1977 movie "It Happened One Christmas" --- a remake of the Jimmy Stewart classic "It's a Wonderful Life." Very young.
What were his recent comments? I’ve been trying to find what you and a few others are talking about but I can’t find anything recent, the only thing I can find is a Twitter thread from years ago where he was upset about the Swedish-German joke
@@Pfefferkuchenman His comments were in the same vein as the Twitter thread. He was basically saying that he didn't like Norm making jokes about him being gay because if he went along with said jokes, then his gay family members and friends may look at him as being complicit in, as he saw it, mocking their lifestyle.
I was thinking yesterday that the two funniest people I've ever seen are Christopher Guest and Norm MacDonald, and here they are sitting right next to eachother. So much talent in one couch.
Poor Chris. One of the few times he tried to be playful and jokey with another guest and that's the reaction he got. Maybe people should remember this the next time they complain that he's too icy in interviews.
I think I get it... he doesn't like obvious questions, but he's also kind of riffing with it, with deadpan so dead and pan that no one knows if something just happened or not lmao. This is actually genius stuff
Christopher Guest is British and is a Lord, he is The 5th Baron Haden-Guest. His title is The Right Honourable The Lord Christopher Haden-Guest, he sits in the House of Lords.
He was born to British aristocratic blood. Like many British aristocratic families during the final 100 years of the Empire, they married, and often treated New York, and other East Coast states elite population, as something of a faux-British aristocracy, and married them. One of Jack Kennedy’s sister, “Kick Kennedy” did so.
I actually feel bad for Andy in this one. In the previous segment Norm was joking that Andy likes gay porn, which was funny, but Guest takes it too far and runs the joke into the ground with his “tape”. The joke was over. You can only fuck with a guy for so long. I think Norm didn’t like it either.
Norm was laughing, and honestly, it looks to me like Andy is playing at being angry. It’s a comedy show, he knows he has to be able to take some ribbing if the guests want to do that. I think what annoyed him with Norm later on was that it became a running joke every time he was on the show. In typical Norm fashion he beat that dead horse into the ground.😂
@@motleysue8171Your implication that Norm’s punchlines culminating in a Gay Andy line grew stale is wrong. The Swedish German joke is god level, and it’s a decade after this.
+bh617 They weren't really a double-straight-man act for years, and Norm likes him. Norm talking about the SNL 40th reunion show: "Just seeing Aykroyd, Christopher Guest… it was really awesome for me."
actually Norm has huge respect for Guest. The joke went over people's heads. He said they were in a two man act but they both played straight men. Norm was playing off the joke. People didn't catch it. I'm sure both Norm and Chris couldn't give a shit :)
Norm Macdonald and Christopher Guest sitting next to each other... too much funny for one set! i mean not here so much, but in principal.
The world should envy us. I envy us.
Unreal
The rare occasion when Norm does not take over the interview.
I suspect he wanted to show the respect.
@@georgesotiriou7051 It's weird with friends I guess.

Love it when the guests are having fun and are asked good questions. Conan the best. Thanks for sharing.
Guest was a really good-looking guy back in the day, it's weird that he never got more glamourous roles.

Yeah, but he got Jamie Leigh Curtis.

God he is so great. Love his work so much. Spinal Tap was required viewing in my family growing up. Everything he does is just fantastic
Christopher Guest is an absolute genius.
Since 1985, All of my amps go to 11...
He's so fucking funny! " Chip De Mentabella" with Billy Crystal !! LMAO! I never knew he was married to Jamie Leigh Curtis!
@@patrick764 , he really is.
Christopher Guest is the absolute king of deadpan 😄
Wow it's interesting to watch this after Andy's recent comments about Norm and realizing that he was genuinely pissed during this
pissed about what?

Nigel Tufnel what a hero
"Edwards and Hunt" was released (after Farley's death) as "Almost Heroes"
conan has always done a very good job at accentuating his guests' MO
york jeez man. i would enjoy guest stepping behind the directorial lens once more
"Backdraft" the musical is brilliant.
What a great comedic pairing XD Guest's dry humor is right up Norm's alley, I hope he was taking notes lol
so insane watching christopher guest be just as insanely subtly funny as himself instead of with a british accent.
Oh, come on mate.
5:15 - The first time I've seen him laugh ever.
Bless Norm...what a great greeting!
just realized both Norm and Chris were news anchors on SNL
I fucking love Christopher guest
Christopher Guest is the originator of modern day Mockumentaries starting with spinal tap
Don't use that word in front of him or he'll rip you a new one.
Poor Chris. One of the few times he tried to be playful and jokey with another guest and that's the reaction he got. Maybe people should remember this the next time they complain that he's too icy in interviews.
I only remember him from the princess bride and night at the museum: battle of Smithsonian.
"Waiting for Guffman" is hilarious. And the other movie Guest directed was Chris Farley's last, sadly.

Waiting For Guffman is absolutely brilliant.
Alternative title "Christopher Guest, Guest's on Conan."
"This is a tape for Andy's wife? A little tape I made." ROFLMFAO!!!!! 🙂
And he's STILL chewing that SAME piece of GUM😂😂😂
Still my favorite movie to this day
it’s funny, “Edwards & Hunt” turned out to be “Almost Heroes.” I wonder when they changed the title
Andy is absolutely hilarious
I first heard of him when he was with National Lampoon. Mr. Roberts ... a parody of Mr. Rogers with Bill Murray. Hilarious if you can find it.
anyone have the full episode on here?
Did Conan just ask Christopher Guest where he gets his ideas from?😂
His Lordship sounds very American here :)
chris guest is a new yorker!? how did he do such a perfect English accent in spinal tap?

two SNL news anchors
This would be considered homophobic and hateful today.
Because people have nothing better to do these days than take handouts, feel entitled, and get offended at shit.
Comic genius.
There are other videos showing him fucking with the interviewer yet he doesn’t fuck with Conan.
