    I just got mine two weeks ago. Started using it a week ago. I’ve had MANY smokers. This one, hands down, is the best. I do soak my chips though. I may try dry sometime.

    Make sure you turn the chip tube back in the upright position. Otherwise it can gather moisture and drip it back down onto your chips.

    My first smoker was a Masterbuilt and it worked great. My only complaint is the small amount of chips I could load. Not a big deal for pork, but if your smoking a brisket, it was just too time consuming to constantly load chips for that long.
    My second one was a Smoke Hollow all stainless electric smoker. It had a giant chip try and smoked as well as the Masterbuilt. It would produce smoke for hours on one load of chips. Last year i went to get another Smoke Hollow and found that Masterbuilt bought them out and discontinued the entire line. Very unfortunate, Smoke Hollow was a superior smoker, hands down. Too bad Masterbuilt didn't at least incorporate some of the features that made Smoke Hollow better, like the chip tray size. That small chip load is why i wont buy another Masterbuilt.

    That chip chute is gone i put a damper instead. Chip tray i cover in foil and poke holes for smoke but no flare ups at all.i regulate air in from bottom and top and it smokes dang better. An temp is better controlled as well.

    • @IrixGuy
      @IrixGuy  22 дні тому +1

      Let's say I'm cooking a 12 pound or so pork butt.....that'll likely take around 24 hours (give or take a few hours) to achieve 201 degrees internal temperature. With a pork butt, I start around noon on a Saturday. Every 45 minutes or so (whenever I no longer see visible smoke), I add more chips. I continue doing this until I go to sleep that night and then early the next morning, I resume adding chips at the same frequency. If you want to extend the reloading duration, subscribe and check out my Slow Smoker Attachment videos. Cheers! #ChefIrixGuy

    I fired nine up today for the first time. Doing some ribs over 6 hours. After about the first hour , stopped seeing smoke , added a few more chips. Do you have to add chips every hour ? I know you talked about the pork butt where you didn’t add them so often. Also how long after you add them should you see smoke ? Seems like it takes around 30 minutes with dry chips.

    • @IrixGuy
      @IrixGuy  Рік тому +4

      For a shorter smoke, I’d usually
      add more about every hour. The secret is to crank temp up during the initial wood chip load to get them going. Reduce to your 225 or whatever low and slow smoking temp next, before adding your ribs. With that method, additional chips should ignite easily because there will be a solid and warm bed of smoldering chips underneath. #ChefIrixGuy

    • @IrixGuy

    • @IrixGuy
      @IrixGuy  Рік тому +3

      With old school charcoal smoker (ai’ve been doing this a long time) I would sometimes soak my hickory chunks. Today, I just use the hickory chips dry and they work great! I’ve smoked everything from ribs to brisket and it’s all turned out excellent! Just don’t forget your water pan for humidity and you can toss in garlic, onion, etc. for aromatics. #ChefIrixGuy

    How do i know when to reload the wood chips

    • @IrixGuy
      @IrixGuy  2 місяці тому

      It quite simple....when you can't see smoke, add more =). With that said, if it runs for a while without smoke it's not going to ruin the cook. As a matter of fact for 24 hour ish smokes like a pork butt, I often add wood chips up until I got to sleep but don't start adding more until I wake up the next morning. #ChefIrixGuy

I can only speak from my experience and I've cooked TONS of meals in it so far (subscribe and check out my Masterbuilt electric smoker video playlist). All has turned out perfectly and I have encountered zero issues with mine. I do suggest using a wireless ambient and meat probe like I use. The built-in ambient thermometer isn't perfect in my opinion but by using my wireless thermometer, I can keep a close eye on my ambient temp and meat temp from my phone! #Masterbuilt

    I’ve been trying to get this smoker to work well but always struggle with this more than a pellet smoker. I’ve found this unit will stop smoking after a couple hours or increase the internal temp too much causing creosote on the meat or over cook. The only thing I’ve been able to make successfully was a small brisket that only took a few hours. Should you pull the chip tray out slightly to allow more air for cleaner smoke? I’ve noticed mine likes to produce thick white smoke

    • @IrixGuy
      @IrixGuy  Рік тому

      Strange! Mine has worked great with this wood chip reloadable but subscribe and check out the Masterbuilt Slow Smoker videos that I've recently published. The cold smoker is an add-on that keeps the heat for smoking the wood chips outside of the electric smoker. In other words, you could operate your electric smoker at a lower temp.
