    I started with a Bradley with my dad for about 10 years then bought a MB 30 for about 3. Made some great food with those units and then moved up to more advanced stuff. If I had an condo or apartment where charcoal or pellet smokers were not allowed, I'd be just as comfortable with an electric smoker to get my smoke fix. Great info, thanks!

      Thanks for watching John and welcome to the word of smoking BBQ! You’re going to love it! I need an expert opinion. I have a 40" MB smoker. I have smoked a few turkeys with injectibles and they turned out juicy good. My question is in your opinion if I get a turkey stand that I can smoke the turkey in the upright position will that dry it out because of the juices running out the bottom?

    Hey thanks for sharing this... I am having a learning curve because I have always used a traditional offset but I am looking to just sit back and enjoy a drink while I am smoking instead of babysitting it 🤣. I am having an issue trusting the built in temp reading. Did you have the same issue? I see you have some external thermometers. Any recommendations?

    • @BakersBBQ
      @BakersBBQ  Рік тому +3

      Thanks for watching Jennykaradin! As you can see from reviewing my channel I use all types of smokers including an offset so I fully understand your delima. I am assuming you are referring to the ambient temp reading, correct? I didn’t have this issue but I agree that with a stick burner you are driving the fire verses it being on automatic pilot in the electric smoker, which is a bit of a game changer. I have always trusted the ambient temp on my Masterbuilt Electric Smoker & it hasn’t failed me yet. I use the same cooking times and temps as I do with my offset but I sometimes have to adjust, but that’s where knowing the fundamentals of bbq kicks in so I recommend to trust the temp but do all of the normal steps as the Pitmaster to assure it is done to expectation; i.e. probe tender on a brisket or passing the toothpick test on ribs etc. Does that make sense? I use the Inkbird thermometer for internal temp readings of the meat I’m smoking & not for the ambient temperature of the electric smoker. I have one of these and the electronic timer/temp control is a pain in the butt. It keeps kicking out and I have to reset it all the time. I have to babysit the unit for the entire time that I am smoking. I was thinking of by-passing the eletronic unit and replacing it with a manual control dimmer, or just getting a Big Chiel smoker, much simpler to operate.

      @BakersBBQ you put 4 10 pounds butts in there? My goodness! Hiw long did that take? Did you have to rotate them at all? That is a lot of meat for a smallish smoker, and airflow is important! LMK!

    • @BakersBBQ
      @BakersBBQ  5 місяців тому +1

      It handled it just fine and was done it 10 hours! Just make sure you leave a little space between them for good air flow. Also, I recommend that you leave the water pan empty to catch the drippings and make sure your grease drain is cleaned out. Happy Smokin!

    Great video...having to add chips every 30-40 minutes seems like a bit of a hassle particularly for long cooks or straight impossible if I have to go to work.
    How often do you have to add chips to an electric pellet smoker?

    • @BakersBBQ
      @BakersBBQ  Рік тому +3

      Hey Macneto, thanks for stopping by and watching! You don’t add wood chips to a pellet smoker as the pellets are its fuel/smoke source & are fed from the hopper, but on the electric smoker your only need to add wood chips the 1st 2-3 hours depending on what you’re smoking. For example; smoking a pork butt you could stop adding chips after about 3 hours but if you’re doing something smaller like burgers or dogs you may only add chips once so as to not over smoke the meat. The electric smoker is simple and there are no moving parts unlike a pellet smoker. Both are great choices based on each person’s preference. Thanks again for watching 👍🏻
