You can be a digital artist with the bare minimum, same for traditional, it's not the tools that make the art, it's the artist, it's YOU, you can do it
I was a digital artist back in 2006 using a mouse and photoshop 7.0, I did it without having access to the tools of today so you definitely can do it. Doesn't matter the tools you have, you can make things happen as long as you're willing to find a way.
Totally agree with you. I have all the equipment now even though I started traditionally, and sometimes I just don't want to bother connecting my tablet for some tweaks and finalize it by using simple vectoral silhouttes etc I create with the mouse.

Honestly doing digital art with my finger isn’t so bad. Even though my iPad does get messier and has more marks on it because of me smudging my finger- 😃 it’s just like a stylus without the uhm pencil
As someone who’s been in digital art for the past 4 years, I started learning digital using an iPhone 6s. I was broke af and couldn’t afford an iPhone at the time, and the only app that it could handle was Ibis Paint X. but it taught me digital art from the bottom of the barrel up. And I learned how to put together some pretty decent digital art pieces, and now today I use an IPad Pro. Do I recommend using a phone to start digital art? No. But if I was able to put decent art pieces together on a small phone, then with todays phones, you should have no problem. If it weren’t for my iPhone 6s, I wouldn’t be the artist I am today.
For anyone else wondering, you definitely can! I'd say that the bare minimum you need for digital art is a digital screen (like a phone), the rest is optional. I do plan on moving to a pc with a tablet cuz it'd be faster for me, but I've been drawing with a phone and finger for years and it works perfectly fine. Don't be discouraged just because you don't have a huge tablet and 2 computer screens like professionals do.

Yes, of course! After analog art, I started out with using Medibang Paint and IbisPaint on the phone and using only my fingers to draw. Pretty challenging, but you get used to it after a while. I finally get to use a laptop and a tablet now!
I started digital art back when the drawing program I use now did NOT have pressure sensitivity. Back then I didn’t find it made any difference, now that I use pressure sensitivity I will never be the same again lol can’t go back
I did do that for a while, and then I got an iPad and I have no idea how I did it on my phone. My art has improved SOOOO much with an iPad, but I did learn a lot of tips and tricks through my phone. It was fun!
Wow that amazing to me! Really showing it not the tool but its the artist that makes the work. I don't like drawing on my phone it so tiny and narrow I endup draw so but and have to resize stuff and gets very squishedlooking.mcuh easier on tablets/iPad because they feel like normal paper sizes and the thinner phone sized format
I do the same thing lol, I use my phone, that phone is about 8 yrs old now, but it's all I had, I've been able to make lots of artworks in it but it's pretty much lagging so hopefully if I have the money I want to buy a tablet too, I really want to experience what it's like drawing in that would be, it seems enjoyable.
As someone who draws digitally off their phone and is able to get super accurate stuff (not tooting my own horn, I just mean I can genuinely say I’m happy with my results) I’d say yes!! Don’t let a lack of ipad hold you back!
I enjoy using the mobile Clip Studio Paint. I mainly use it for rough sketches and then touch it up on my computer. But, if I only have my phone I will do complete works it’s really handy
I knew people who drew with mouses forget stylus thats a whole other level. If one uses mouse on an OG paint software in microsoft (prior to the existence of them adding layers) you were an artist GOD! People forget before tablets we had mice and that aside programs like photoshop didn't always exist. Some people only worked traditionally and would edit from there. I have so much respect for OG digital artists!
Ha, when I was a kid, I started off drawing with my ps vita on an app called Colors. I was finally able to get a cheap drawing tablet in highschool (a Wacom intuos I think?), then got a nice XP Pen Artist 15.6 with my first check in senior year. To anyone starting out, do the best with what you have, and if it's something you truly enjoy, you can move up slowly over time. Wishing everyone the best of luck!
To me this is the equivalent of someone using a mouse to draw and if this is how you do art your built different cuz I was so frustrated doing art on such a small screen! Keep going you crazy kids!!!
Yep! I've been saving up lately so I can get a drawing tablet and a csp subscription, so I can make art the way I want to, but as of right now, I've been doing digital on only phone for five or six years now on only Ibis Paint X, since it's free and easy. I don't use stylis, so pressure stuff is out the window. Still easy and enjoyable, just takes longer for me with such a small screen.
As someone who draws on phone with their fingers often, it’s just so bizarre seeing people act so surprised when people draw without a tablet. I used to have a phone without pressure sensitivity and I was fine, my friend has a phone without pressure sensitivity and their linework is amazing. We’re adapting to all we have available, of course it’s gonna come easily to us. I find drawing on phone much easier than using one of those cheap non-screen tablets personally.
I used to make little animated GIFs by opening a basic notes app, drawing at the top of the file scrolled all the way up to keep the orientation, and screenshotting stuff. No layers, opacity, pen pressure, or distinction between the stylus and my hand, so I couldn't rest it, and every "undo" required me to first tap a 3 Dot icon to open a table of options. And if I inserted a screenshot for reference, it was slightly too small and I'd have to make my strokes quick, because resting my hand would cue a cancel cause it would think I was trying to do something to the picture. Now I finally got a tablet and procreate but I don't think it would've been worth it if I didn't go through the original hell and learn a good bit along the way, maintaining my interest. And now they're going to release the animation specific version in like a month so I should be over the moon then. Moral of the story, if you want to do something but you could technically be doing it in a better way later, there's some argument to be made about practicality and putting effort where it matters most, but if you really want it, do what you can in the moment, and trust that you'll get there eventually. And much like how a cat with a bell learns to be stealthier, trust that adversity can make you better at, or at least comparitively comfortable with your own stuff when you finally get the flow

I don't like drawing on my phone it so tiny and narrow I endup draw so but and have to resize stuff and gets very squishedlooking.mcuh easier on tablets/iPad because they feel like normal paper sizes and the thinner phone sized format
Very much sooooo
And yes you’re art is gooorrrggeeooouussss
It is possible of course and i love the painting
I do the same thing lol, I use my phone, that phone is about 8 yrs old now, but it's all I had, I've been able to make lots of artworks in it but it's pretty much lagging so hopefully if I have the money I want to buy a tablet too, I really want to experience what it's like drawing in that would be, it seems enjoyable.
A true artist can use anything and make incredible art
Great job 😊 you endure and succeeded to draw using your phone 😊
My ride or die friend literally makes art with a phone, ibis paint, and their finger. Also their art is very pretty (a masterpiece) so like yes.
Nice artwork ❤️❤️.
The tools you use isnt what makes you an artist, its the passion and creativity that do
As someone who draws digitally off their phone and is able to get super accurate stuff (not tooting my own horn, I just mean I can genuinely say I’m happy with my results) I’d say yes!! Don’t let a lack of ipad hold you back!
I enjoy using the mobile Clip Studio Paint. I mainly use it for rough sketches and then touch it up on my computer. But, if I only have my phone I will do complete works it’s really handy
Ofc it is. I do it all the time myself.
I started out on my phone, it works great and is fun but having a bigger screen can be more convenient
It is sooo possible when ur around : )
Seeing people drawing looks easy, if we try it is much different😮
Wow, finally it's possible😊
I still do finger drawing on my phone up to now, i got use to it over time 😅
The fact you are able to do this with one of those squishy-tipped pens is crazy
