Lovely concept. I did this by myself in 2013 and called it Traveling on Kindness. I just kept up a blog about my experiences to make sure it wasn’t influenced by the “camera effect” and one of my rules was to never ask for money, only accept money offered to me. I ended up in over 30 states over 10 weeks and even went to Hawaii from all the money people kept giving me. It was wild!
@@zelrius8714 I ran into one woman who safely hitchhiked alone, but you could tell she was a really tough person and could handle herself. For both men and women, if you look like you can be taken advantage of you’re more likely to attract people who want to.
I'd be interested to see the difference if the cameras were hidden and people didn't know it was for a video. I bet a lot more people would be judgmental of them for not paying for stuff themselves and would refuse hospitality for that reason.
This! Like having the camera so visible and TELLING most people that they need to do this challenge to test the kindness of strangers kind of defeats the point.

On New Years Day it was so warm out for where I live, and so after a night of hanging with a friend, I went outside to enjoy the warmth of 45 F and foggy, and asked a random person if they wanted to get some breakfast with me, my treat. When I got older, I had lost faith in our country that we weren't as connected as I had thought because the media brought out only stories of hate, discrimination, political conflict, etc. Although crimes and the bad stuff are going to happen, of course, it's just good to see more content that proves that Americans are still what I had grown up thinking we were - United.

@@Cockalicious Depends, there's a lot of people with status and money that I wouldn't let near my love ones, it's about your real value, heart and character, not about your monetary value.
I have such bittersweet feelings while watching this. I'm so glad you guys have been having an easy time, but at the same time I know of a couple that have been living in their SUV for like 5 months and they park in the same spot every night... I wish they were given help in such abundance. And I know the response everyone is thinking "why cant you help" because I'm not in a good place myself and I cant invite people into someone elses property.
Hopefully they have kept up with social services as that's the best place to find help for shelter. Unfortunately, there's a waiting list and of course those with children are prioritized but it's important to keep in contact with a case worker to make sure they aren't forgotten.
Right? It made me happy for them to receive love, but at the same time I couldn’t stop thinking that maybe if they would not look the way they do, some people would not help at all…. :(
Too many infamous murders in America some hitchhiking related I can understand lots of people being reluctant to help out but i I’m also amazed at how many people were willing to give you guys money for food and travel. Your videos show that there really is kindness left in this country apart from all the chaos that happens. Really excited to see the rest of this series.
Eversince you done the previous series about hitchhiking across Canada, I desperately needed a follow up! I'm so excited to follow you guys guys on your journey across America! 😊 So entertaining and inspiring!
I have a friend here in Morocco who has been doing the same thing for 8 years. I've adopted his lifestyle, and he loves to travel while hating work. Ahahah! I went with him this year for 20 days, and it was amazing.
I think telling them about your mission to travel across America only by using the kindness of strangers is key, if you are hitchhiker, or homeless (as I was), you could potentially phrase it that way (while remaining honest) that you are also relying on the kindness of strangers for transportation or food in your current situation.
My guess for this adventure is that people in the east will be more willing to help, people in the east aren't nice but kind, while in the west it will be so much more difficult as people are nice but not kind, these two words may seem the same but are completely different. Nice people will show sympathy, kind people will actually help. (This is coming from eastern united states btw)
Oh guys, this so took me back to 1978 when I hitchhiked from Miami to North California and back. I've often wondered if that outstanding level of friendliness and generosity that I encountered in your beautiful country had died in the intervening years. Apparently not. I don't know if it was my English accent that helped me along a bit, (though obviously not when it came to drivers stopping to give me a lift) but when I now speak to people about Americans, I never fail to talk about the openness and hospitality I received. I wasn't asking for food or money or a place to stay like you guys but I received offers of dinner and a bed for the night all along the way. And the connection you make with total strangers can be such a revelation. You get to realise that there is a whole life in every single car.
Man, I've been subscribed since maybe 10k subs. Incredible how much bigger and better your adventures are getting. Can't wait to see what you guys do next!
As a traveler, this kindness is what ive seen time and time again, different countries. Poor, rich, all colors. Glad travel channels show this reality. Especially couch surfing during the early 2000s
Awesome! I have hosted hundreds of CouchSurfers since 2013, and also hitchhiked a few times through Europe. This is my kind of thing to watch!😁 I can relate to so many things happening haha🤣
I did the same thing here in Australia about 30 years ago. I decided to hitch from my home in Cairns to Brisbane with no money just relying on kindness of strangers. I had the best trip with people offering a lift and paying for meals and inviting me into there homes , really renews your faith in humanity.

As some who has spent most of their twenties traveling across this country. I can 100% say that there's more good vibes than negative vibes out there. You just gotta be respectful and not a dick, simple as that.
Amazing on all counts; that you were so lucky with so many kind people and that so far a million people have watched this first episode in your journey. Maybe it's just your Canadian vibe. I love Canadians.
Let's be honest here. A lot of the luck they gain on this journey was due to them being young, fit, tall, healthy, happy, and attractive. If you put a 50 year old overweight migrant with diabetes and health issues in their same shoes it would be a lot hard to travel across the US for free.
This channel inspired me to talk to strangers every time I leave my home, so far so good, I’ve met really nice people from all backgrounds 🙌 (It’s scary every time though)
Cool idea but it’s not an authentic interpretation of people’s kindness. Chances are higher for them to be kind when they know they’ll be on UA-cam and you look the way you look
I appreciate these guys doing this it does show people can be kind, but as someone else in the comments said, I wonder how many people would have acted differently if they were faced with a camera. Stoked on this series. I just recently longboarded across New Zealand and getting into awkward situations like this is uncomfortable but good to overcome your fears and not knowing where you're going to sleep is a sad feeling
Adventures like this is just so cool to experience but it also comes with great risk. It's amazing to see that there are still nice people out there that are willing to help out. Keep spreading love and kindness 💯❤️
I've been subscribed to this channel for a while. Not sure why it never shows up in my recommended list anymore but tonight the algorithm brought me back. I'm bingeing this whole series in one sitting. Heck yes!
Sorry but I cannot respect this. Taking $20 from people who need it more than you guys.. you should be just giving the $ back once they offer it, pay out of pocket but consider it donated.. this should not have costed these strangers
I have been wanting to do stuff like this since I was a kid to be honest. Traveling like that is the best way to go. I love your guys' videos and I can't wait to see the rest of the series. :)
Reminds of a book I read “peace pilgrim…”. An older woman decides to bring a message of peace to everyone she meets and relied on the kindness of strangers for food and shelter for a couple of years.
I’m not from America but this reminds me of a time a friend and I got stuck in a different state without accomodation and this random guy from the pub told us we could stay with him and his family. The first night he put us in a caravan they had in the front yard. It was very cold, but we were super grateful to have somewhere to stay. The next day they put us in a caravan they had in the backyard that was full furnished and had heating. They let us stay for a over a week until we could sort something out for ourselves. They even took us to the airport when we were ready to leave. They also had a really cool feature wall in their house which was covered in different beer cans. Will never forget their kindness.

This shows how great people can be. My faith in humanity has been restored. This guy travels the world alone and just relies on the kindness of strangers
Did it by myself in Canada as well :)
@@DiscoverConnection awesome! You filmed this by yourself too?
@@charlesbook8229 Yes, I filmed it all myself
@@DiscoverConnection Amazing!
I’m so proud of you guys to push through the anxiety that comes with creating random connections. This is really inspiring!
I love this! There is a lot of kind people! they're just not as loud as the bad ones and don't do the 6pm news much, they're busy enjoying life, taking care of themselves and their love ones 😊 This series is amazing! I can't wait for the next episode. Thank you so much for doing that! 😄👍💜
Guarantee most of these people that helped would not do the same for someone who actually needed it like a homeless person.
@@JonathanAlmgren Speak for yourself not for others. A lot of people give to homeless people, I do.
@@devolutionone would you let em into your house around you, your kids and your stuff ?
@@Cockalicious Depends, there's a lot of people with status and money that I wouldn't let near my love ones, it's about your real value, heart and character, not about your monetary value.
@@devolutionone of course i was talking about strangers in general, rich or poor, psychopaths can be either
time to wait for the weekly episode! Thanks again for providing us with nothing but positive vibes and human kindness
Ahahah! I went with him this year for 20 days, and it was amazing.
this is the first episode and it's the most intriguing thing I've watched so far I can't wait for next week great job brad and Liam & Luca!
I love how you read the description and mentioned Luca as well 😄
Awesome video can’t wait to see what’s next
I think telling them about your mission to travel across America only by using the kindness of strangers is key, if you are hitchhiker, or homeless (as I was), you could potentially phrase it that way (while remaining honest) that you are also relying on the kindness of strangers for transportation or food in your current situation.
These kind of videos really give me hope in humanity and help me get over my fear of the world and people!
This looks like a fun series! I've watched your across Canada series twice now. ❤️❤️🇨🇦🇨🇦
The reaction of people from my city (Boston) makes me cry tears of joy.
hell yeah amazing series! Can´t wait for more and for you guys to prove further that there is still community and goodness in people across America c:
So much good to find 👌🏼
This is sick bro. I’m hyped for the next one. Man, I think I’m too old now to do what you do anymore. You got big balls my friend. Much love brad.
This is super awesome, and I'm actually in tears watching. Not too far in yet, but man this feels good to watch. Nicely done!!!
I loooove this series!!! Seriously smiled for 16 minutes and 32 seconds straight. Can't wait for the next one.
ive never been more invested than anything ive ever seen...ive stayed up every night til 2 watching these after dinner. thank you
This is so sick, its amazing to see people letting you stay the night without asking questions
Your pfp kind of triggers me, it makes me feel like something's on my screen...
Thanks for reminding me of how good people can be. I often just see so much crazy!!
As a traveler, this kindness is what ive seen time and time again, different countries. Poor, rich, all colors. Glad travel channels show this reality.
Especially couch surfing during the early 2000s
Everybody who extended their hearts and kindness in this video, you guys are awesome and there is a lot of good here on Earth.
Awesome! I have hosted hundreds of CouchSurfers since 2013, and also hitchhiked a few times through Europe. This is my kind of thing to watch!😁 I can relate to so many things happening haha🤣
NO way. This is amazing. Amazing personalities. Amazing videography. This is going to blow up your channel. I’m binging this this series right now!
THIS. IS. INCREDIBLE!!!!! This story needs to be on national news!!!!❤
the amount of kindess hidden under the extreme things media shows us is a ray of light in the dystopian 2023
I did the same thing here in Australia about 30 years ago. I decided to hitch from my home in Cairns to Brisbane with no money just relying on kindness of strangers. I had the best trip with people offering a lift and paying for meals and inviting me into there homes , really renews your faith in humanity.
you guys getting so lucky in boston/new york is crazy, and honestly so glad you ended up staying in the good part of philly. the fact you ended up in west chester is hilarious, i really hope ya'll got lorenzos for dinner LOL can't wait to dive into the rest of your trip
As some who has spent most of their twenties traveling across this country. I can 100% say that there's more good vibes than negative vibes out there.
You just gotta be respectful and not a dick, simple as that.
Love to see you guys getting out of your comfort zones and taking others out of theirs to remind us ALL of the good in humanity. ❤
Not gonna lie that Khazak guy was really cool.
This video randomly popped up on my recommendations, but it was definitely a banger! Earned a sub!
If you put a 50 year old overweight migrant with diabetes and health issues in their same shoes it would be a lot hard to travel across the US for free.
nationality also plays into it.
I had to scroll through suggested previously watched videos for 15 minutes before I found this, and I'm subbed. YT algo needs work.
This channel inspired me to talk to strangers every time I leave my home, so far so good, I’ve met really nice people from all backgrounds 🙌
(It’s scary every time though)
Thank you for showing us that good still exists in the world; Ive been in a very dark place and this content is exactly what i needed.
I've always had a buried dream of crossing America since watching Forrest Gump the first time. But as a woman I'm too scared to ever attempt it lol.
someone who isn't from the US and lives like 7-10k miles away, it's nice to see all the friendly people around.
America really has two sides and clearly kindness is a big one ☺
Adventures like this is just so cool to experience but it also comes with great risk. It's amazing to see that there are still nice people out there that are willing to help out. Keep spreading love and kindness 💯❤️
without the cameras this would be a different story lmao
I've been subscribed to this channel for a while. Not sure why it never shows up in my recommended list anymore but tonight the algorithm brought me back. I'm bingeing this whole series in one sitting. Heck yes!
With hidden cameras and no back story that youre doing this for a challenge, this would never happen in a million years
I watched this whole series I was laughing and smiling the whole way through. This brought me true joy through the good and bad.
Now pretend to be homeless and do it, you will see how hard it will become
So true.
just discovered your channel, about to start the series back to back & not skipping no ads. I love what you do Brad, keep inspiring!!
Sorry but I cannot respect this. Taking $20 from people who need it more than you guys.. you should be just giving the $ back once they offer it, pay out of pocket but consider it donated.. this should not have costed these strangers
You’re assuming those who gave the money were hurting for money
Rewatching this series because it brought me so much joy the first time. Big fan of you both!
Amazing to see a person who comes from Kazakhstan, me too! And yes, we are so polite and friendly to strangers;)
I have been wanting to do stuff like this since I was a kid to be honest. Traveling like that is the best way to go. I love your guys' videos and I can't wait to see the rest of the series. :)
I love the journey. Not sure if I love the “they pay for the food part” but it’s to each their own
So happy everytime I see a video from discover connection. This is the kind of content I love in my feed, a nice reminder that most people are good
So glad I came across you guys channel. It really shows how the world really is today. ♥️♥️
Great video, really killed it with this one guys! This will be hitting the trending page soon, can't wait for part 2!
Reminds of a book I read “peace pilgrim…”. An older woman decides to bring a message of peace to everyone she meets and relied on the kindness of strangers for food and shelter for a couple of years.
I have to say this is the best UA-cam series I’ve watched loved the message so much
I’m not from America but this reminds me of a time a friend and I got stuck in a different state without accomodation and this random guy from the pub told us we could stay with him and his family.
Oh my God! So refreshing to see, I lived in Kazakhstan for 16 years (I'm Canadian but grew up there), and I can attest that Kazakh people are so kind and loving. Thanks Bulat for the continuing the love bro
I couldn't stop smiling, this was an awesome video. Brings back memories of my hitchhiking adventures, good luck with the rest of the country guys!
Definitely going to be binge watching this series,
I was raised to treat others as id like to be treated and to spread love kindness so its interesting seeing how others react.
This channel changed my perspective on people but my anxiety still hits me
