Anyone new to Logic Pro x or just starting out, I highly recommend watching parts 1 & 2. I learned so much from them, my producing skills increased massively with in days. Many Thanks!!
MY MIND IS BLOWN! I seriously want to thank Professor Jono Buchanan and the Guildhall Schools Electronic Music Department for their efforts to help others via youtube, for people like me who cant afford more education but want to learn. You could have chose to charge for this seminar, but chose not to. I wish I had known these simple tools years ago. I have been doing things the hard way for so long, unnecessarily creating an overwhelming workload. Which at times makes me procrastinate finishing projects. Not only was it extensively informative, but this video and presentation were produced with outstanding professional quality. The audio and visual kept me on the edge of my seat until the end. I couldn't stop rewinding so I could take notes and get screenshots. A+ work IMO. I will share this video to others in the future.
Agreed! I think it's wonderful that people share their expertise. There is enough money being made in the industry that it can afford to water a few seeds. It kind of makes me sick that guys like Chris Lord Alge won't do anything that doesn't put money in their pockets, and they'll happily put their names on a bunch of plugins that they would never even use just to line their already fat pockets. The "industry" has pretty much killed music. IME, the most talented people came from very modest means. If I went to audition a band and saw a giant drum cage and a guitar player with a full stack and a half in their practice room, it was a pretty good chance they were a band with whom I wouldn't want to sing.
I use Logic every day, and while I don't nearly consider myself a pro, I know my way around it pretty well. That being said, there have always been parts of Logic that I've just pretended don't exist, so I don't have to figure them out! This is incredibly useful for anyone looking to hone their Logic prowess or just realize they've been doing things the hard way for years. This is seriously good stuff.
Well, because you say "I don't nearly consider myself a pro". You are if it's your job. And I know many pros who get by without knowing all that Logic has to offer. So, by definition, you are either a pro or not. :-)
Can you put daw on a usb FlashDrive. That way i can plug the FlashDrive in another Pc that doesnt have daw so i can still record to make songs on either Pc.If i can download the daw on a usb flashdrive what kinds of daw i can use without being connected to the internet ?

Totally brilliant presentation by Professor John Buchanan. My Mum won a scholarship to the Guildhall school of music and studied there with (Sir) George Martin back in the 1940's. Great channel and know my Mum would have enjoyed this if she were still alive.
Man i love the way you Brits get to the piont mate. Thank yu brilliant and one of the most insightful classes. Thanks man ive been working with Logic for years now and im lazing in learning and studying advanced techniques, all which are greatly needed now. Cheers Cas

I have been looking for such a tutorial for almost a year. What a way have put Logic Pro work so simple. You re truly a genius. Pls upload more videos. Thanks a ton!
May be one of the better course for Logic in UA-cam. J. Buchanan is very didactic and efficient. He wastes no time explaining what he wants to show us.
This is super well done. 4 years into working with logic and I was able to get some great takeaways from this. The midi paint with collapse mode? Where have you been my whole life.
Thank you all so much for making these available. As a logic user, i know I’m not using the program to its ultimate potential, and these videos make a huge difference
YOUR AN AMAZING INSTRUCTOR. GREAT BREAK DOWN OF EVERYTHING. THESE PEOPLE TEACHING FORGET IF WERE TRYING TO LEARN WE DONT KNOW WHAT YOU KNOW AND REALLY SUCK AT GIVING GOOD UNDERSTANDING!!! GREAT JOB
This masterclass is brilliantly well explained ! I've been using Logic for 8 years now and I've never seen such an instructive and well detailed course ! Thank you very much !
When I started using Logic Pro X, I PAID good $$$ for courses that weren't as well presented and as thorough as this is. What an amazing job he has done. What a great gift to the community of musicians and producers that are learning their craft. I found tips and techniques in this seminar that are useful even to advanced users.
I've been watching several hours worth of DAW tutorials and guides. After seeing this, I immediately was able to decide which DAW I'm going to use. Logic is the one that stands out above them all.
Excellent building block approach tutorial while also stopping by to share techniques and explanations of fundamental and more advanced options/functions. Brilliant!
Someone like me with no musical software background is learning so much from this guy. Why pay $1000's of dollars to go to audio school if he explains it down perfectly. Thanks alot bro.
WELL DONE!!!!!! Great teacher and musicians !!! You have shown that you can work very well with LOGIC PRO X without adding PLUG INs from other companies. I think that LOGIC PRO already offers everything you need but you have to learn how to use it as you have taught. If the BEATLES and ROLLING STONES had had LOGIC PRO 25 years ago they would have thanked !!!!! We are all looking forward to other TUTORIALS to investigate other aspects as well. This is one of the best masterclasses on Logic Pro x and I wish I have seen it on youtube when I bought my Apple studio same year. I have learned a lot from this masterclass. Thanks.
Been using Logic on and off for years (used FL for a long time as well, once my mac broke i used it full time) but I got a new mac and I'm getting back into Logic this is a great refresher
Absolutely love this video! I've been watching tons of tutorials, and only know the basics. This opened me up to different work flows and showed me the simpler ways of doing things that usually seemed meticulous.
What an amazing teaching tool this is. Thank you so very much for doing this and sharing your work with those who could not attend. This is invaluable. ❤️🙏🏻
Definitely worth a watch, within the first 10 minutes I learned a couple invaluable functions that honestly everyone who uses logic should know. Grade A material here.
I can see how I definitely need to upgrade to Logic Pro X. Garageband has certain limitations that though in my earlier DAW I had augmented and increased to make it almost like Logic Pro I don't seem to be able to expand and use instruments I had like the EXS24 that I could use in my old suped up Garageband with it's extra virtual instrument library. Compression was hardly necessary on reel to reel tape because clipping didn't break up the signal as severely as digital and the recording was sort of compressed a bit, back in the day we mainly used it for Bass and Drums and low frequency sounds that explode into the mix. Another way of approaching the less severely squashed compression you've got on the drums is to reduce the threshold level. Good point about the input gain on the microphones, on old desks we had a function called pfl or 'pre-fade listen' to get recording levels right.
I echo the positive sentiments so far. This has been a greaat help to me as a beginner. Huge thanks to all involved. What a cracking resource. Onto part 2...
This masterclass on Logic is literally a masterful presentation. I learned more from this video as in the past 2 months starting to learn Logic. Thanks for this gem!
Amazing video! I studied music technology for 3 years and this masterclass summed up lots of the key things I learnt, and whilst opening my eyes to even more things unbeknown to me.

Excellent presentation. Really surprised that Part 2 has a million fewer views. Both parts are really good. I've been using eMagic (Logic) since it was on an Atari, and found new tricks and work flows. Thank you.
Amazing and throughout tutorial! The guy is clearly motivated, explains the most important things, leaves out the (at that point) unnecessary explanations and made it clear to understand even for Logic Pro X and recording newcomers. The best introduction to this fantastic software suite and musical production I have ever seen. And he managed to put it into a nutshell! Thanks
This was amazing lecture. I was playing with my Logic Pro same time and testing the tricks and most importantly, learning a lot. Thank you for sharing this class in youtube!
A couple of very informative presentations which have provided a great deal of useful information on using Logic Pro X. Well worth more than just one viewing. Many thanks for posting these.
Such a valuable course. Thanks for making it public. Thanks Guildhall School of Music & Drama and professor Jono Buchanan for this impressive masterclass !

I agree with all here that this is a fantastic class, and I thank Guildhall School of Music and Drama for so kindly sharing it. One question: I'm curious why professor Buchanan didn't select "quantize-locked" in his group function when editing drums? Everything I've seen and read suggests that "quantize-locked" and selecting "Q-reference" tracks is the way to go when quantizing drum tracks where mic bleed and therefore phase might be an issue. Can anyone clarify? Again, fantastic viewing.
Very well presented. I know pretty much everything you are doing, but it is nice to see it presented in such a useful way. So far (haven't seen part 2 yet), there has been no useage of 3rd party plugins, which usually annoys me if I don't own them myself. Logic is a pretty amazing program, and it has only gotten better. Thank you!
I would add that the 'controlling audio interface within Logic' feature doesn't work with all interfaces. As far as I can tell, Apogee is the only company that integrates at this level. I had a Firewire Duet, but it was too old to work in this way, and its drivers were...problematic. So, I have to control the volume in either my external mic pre, or in my RME Fireface.
17:37 "no computer has microphone inputs"... I'm confused by this comment because I'm literally looking at several xlr mics and midi synth module plugged directly into the RME HDSPe AIO PCI-e card in my computer right now.
I mean what he is trying to say is most, if not all computers' stock sound cards are not going to allow you to directly plug in an XLR microphone, let alone multiple sources. The sound card you mentioned does not have XLR inputs and needs an adapter, and even then I am going to make an assumption that your computer didn't come stock with that sound card. What he is trying to get across is that if you want to record at a similar scale and with higher fidelity you will probably have to buy a sound card or an interface.
@@kikieee9 It's true there aren't XLR ports directly on the card, but the card has proprietary ports and came with breakout cables which split to multiple XLR, 1/4" TRS, and MIDI ports. I always assumed most musicians and audio engineers would know to install a similar card or pick up an audio interface already if they're making the investment to purchase a DAW such as Logic Pro.
You're welcome!

I would add that the 'controlling audio interface within Logic' feature doesn't work with all interfaces. As far as I can tell, Apogee is the only company that integrates at this level. I had a Firewire Duet, but it was too old to work in this way, and its drivers were...problematic. So, I have to control the volume in either my external mic pre, or in my RME Fireface.
in fact, this is the best tutorial of any out there.
Excellent presentation. Thanks very much for this. It gave me a ton of ideas and new ways of doing things.
Can't believe this is available to everyone.. thank you!!
Very, very good. Thanks so much for making this available. Invaluable.
Super quality, mind blowing performance of all the actors here. A big „thank you“. 👍🏻👏🏻👍🏻👏🏻👍🏻
Drum recording has always been such a mystery to me and this really clarified a ton. Fantastic and concise video.
