- Today I pilot a new series about things you didn't know (or maybe you did) about some of my favorite records of all time. I wanted to start with Dream Theater's eighth studio record Octavarium, and dive deep into the story and concept behind the record, some fun facts about the tracks, as well as some nerdy music theory stuff.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My name is Zachary Seif, and I am a professional guitarist from the NYC Metro Area. I teach private lessons, perform in multiple bands, do session work and am the Artist Relations Manager for Quantum Industries. Come join me as I show you what being in the music industry is like on a regular basis.

What albums do YOU want to learn more about!?
Train Of Thought 😁
@@Consigliere089 great record for sure!!
Distance over time :]
@@kiwi-chan7005 One of my favorites!
An exactly 8 minute video on 8 facts about Octavarium makes perfect sense
It wasn't easy to make it work, but I'm glad it did.
Octavarium (the song) is undoubtedly the most legendary prog metal song off all time and easily dream theaters best song.
It's definitely one of my favorites!!
oh snap this video is 8 minutes long exactly. nice touch. cool video man, thanks!
also released on the 8th of august.
Ah, you found out ;)
@@malawigw Very good eye my friend!
@@ZackSeifMusic this video at least. Dream Theater released the album on 7th june 2005 (5,6,7 and 8) ;)
1. Lovely video
2. That TwoNotes loadbox is doing your JP-2C a disservice. Dive into the Driftwood Loadbox which reacts like a Mesa Cab and doesn’t cut off the low end of the amp.
nice video, I knew all of these facts before (yes, big DT nerd). Looking forward to the next entry in this series!
That’s awesome! Trying to see what the next one will be based on how this one does😁
Glad you enjoyed it. I have a couple other DT related videos on here you can check out.
Panic Attack is in key of C...You just should have said KFC by this point :D
You make a valid point
THIS is why I miss Portnoy. Not for his drumming, I think Mangini is a better drummer, but oh how I wish they'd kept Portnoy involved as a producer. If only LaBrie could stop being such a child, we could end up with an epic new DT album with Portnoys touch on it.
It's definitely a noticeable difference.
Interesting facts. I've been a DT fan since (almost) day one and didn't know some of this. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video, greetings from Brazil!
My pleasure!
Another tie-in to the fade in and fade out being the same on this album is the last line of Octavarium: "The story ends where it began". Also, if you look at the CD itself, it has an octagon with a star inside of it. The octagon represents the 8 whole tones in an octave while the star represents the 5 semitones in an octave.
You can listen to it on repeat forever!
Admit it, you know a ton of other obscure facts about this album. You just wanted to keep it at 8 to keep with the theme :D
HOW COULD I NOT! It just happens to be the 8th day of the 8th month of the year as well, and the video is 8 minutes long..... ;)
@@ZackSeifMusic Holy crap. Are you the chosen one?!
@@xJayKnight I think I have too much extra time these days despite working 6 days a week and being on the road LOL
aoxomoxoa by the grateful dead or time of the last persecution by bill fay!
I will have to check those out!! Have not listened to them yet.
It's the album that turned me on to DT. I went over a buddies house and he was blasting the jam section to Sacrificed Sons. That driving bass line stopped me dead. I thought who the FK are THESE guys
That's awesome!!
@ZackSeifMusic its when the album first came out, that's how long I've been a fan. I've since seen them 5 times, plus JP on his solo tour last November.
Got tix for Tool next month. How about do one of their albums?
8th Like! 🤘
💵YOU WIN💵
Unfortunately I don’t have a prize to give you but I believe that that should definitely count for something😂
@@ZackSeifMusic in my opinion, the fact that you gave my comment a ❤ and even replied to my comment is already an awesome prize.
So, thank you for that! 😁
Also: thanks for this awesome video.
@@FlutterHoof87 I appreciate the support! I love making these videos for everyone to see and share.
