To be fair, she clearly had the most difficult opponents of any Yugioh Girl in the franchise. Anzu’s opponents were a literal beginner, a perverted business man, and a woman that let her win. Asuka had difficult opponents, but damn near everyone in Gx’s decks were bricky, inconsistent, and incompetent decks that only worked because the script demands it. Aki fought against strong opponents like Yuusei, but anyone saying Reptilian, Mad Profiler, Fleur without Barrone, or Unicorn mill is difficult for plant synchro is coping and is only seen as fair because of the script. Kotori lost to post WDC Yuuma Yuzu fought Gem Knight (not FTK so bad), Pure Performage (Not PePe so bad), Miyoko Naname (Wingweaver Turbo), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Earthbounds (not really that good). Romin and Yuuamu play a different game so I’m not counting them.
Aoi really shows a problem with the VRAINS era which is that if you're not Playmaker or Soulburner you don't get to win and it's ridiculous, it's why I actually don't mind the rush duel shows because we get less of this crap nowadays and Yuga and Yudias aren't totally invincible
Not to mention that the female characters are much better written than they were in previous seasons, I think that Romin beating Yuga twice and Yuamu dueling in the season finale is basically self explanatory
That’s the reason I didn’t like playmaker as a character he felt dull and his battles weren’t as intense because you always knew in the end he was gonna win at least with soulburner he has a soul
You know, I still find Yuzu's treatment in the later half of Arc V to be more cringe worthy than this crap but the fact that Aoi could've won against a few of these duels & I wouldn't have even minded, makes me feel dissapointed that they didn't went in that direction. I mean, looking back on the circumstances at the Hanoi Tower arc in Season 1 of VRAINS, I can honestly picture Blue Angel defeating Specter with Playmaker spectating the duel (just to avoid the whole Arc V Intrusion Penalty shtick) with Specter's past being further elaborated on in the duel. In the Soulburner duel, she could've just spared Flame had she won and Season 2 would've been almost the same, no thanks to that card that Soulburner was just lucky to have that card to avoid that burn damage. Yeah, I know that with Specter out of the picture, that left only Revolver to beat Go and lose to Playmaker so they possibly would've wasted her by leaving her in the sidelines given that this series hates tag duels. Anyways, yeah, I'm basically on Team Aoi Deserved Better.
