- I've been getting a lot of questions and concerns about why I'm not making videos anymore, so I thought one about what I've been up to and what my future plans are might be in order.

Glad to see you back Tom , you are one of the 1st guy's I watched on You Tube when I got interested in machining . I am so sorry for the loss of your Son !
Absolutely fantastic to see you’re doing well. We’ll be here when you have time to share something exciting. I still rewatch many of your previous videos and learn more every time. Finally, My deepest condolences for the passing of your son Greg. I can only imagine how difficult these last few years have been.
Yes I agree
Wow glad to see you back Tom, sorry for your loss, losing a child is a terrible thing to go through I’ve seen this firsthand twice. I hope your wife is doing well, because losing a child is much harder on a woman then on men , Looking forward to some new videos from you , Your old videos were very informative.
Tom, what a treat, an encore from the main man. Your past videos & replies to the naysayers were classic.
I am a carpenter with hopes of obtaining a lathe & mill some day.
My father was a machinist & I went to trade school for it, but things did not work out for me then. Now that I'm semi retired, my goal is to fab of metal. I will always say thank you for making videos that people like me can watch & learn from. So much knowledge you gave to us will never be forgotten.
ps. my grandmother bought new a 1967 Chevelle, no I didn't get it, one of my cousins did.
Welcome back Tom from all in the U.K. Steve Barton ( Solid Rock) also in Michigan has been posting some similar toolmaking content recently. It’s certainly rare to find such machinists sharing decades of trade experience on manual machines. I can see you’ve had a difficult few years, hopefully the future will bring tranquility, peace and happiness to your family. Thanks for posting buddy, good to have you back.
Seeing your face again was like seeing an old friend, it brought a smile to my face and almost brought a tear to my eye.
Staying to the end did bring a tear to my eye. I wish you and your family all the very best old mate.
Shop looks great! We'll all be here when you're ready to use it.

Welcome back Sir, you have been missed. Your printouts are still an important reference source in my small home shop.

Very glad to see you and hope for more great content in the future. Your shop looks like a dream. Your videos are one of the things that helped me get into this hobby.
Like you I understand the loss of a son, lost our son almost 14 years ago at age 27. Time changes things but these wounds do not really heal.
John in Mn
Thanks, John. I'm sorry to hear that you are a member of this unfortunate club. It definitely changes you forever.
Sorry to hear of your families loss. You are a great teacher and would like to see more machining when you get everything set up. I built the knurling tool and doing that gave me quite a lot of confidence. I would subscribe to your patreon when you get back to machining.
Welcome back, Tom! The new shop looks awesome and we're all pulling for you out here in cyberland. Can't wait to see what you cook up in the next phase, I'm sure it will be worthy.
Signed, the Game Warden from PA

HOLY CRAP HE’S BACK! Good to see a new video. Credit where it’s due, you helped me start my journey and inspired me to buy my first machine. Learned a lot from you a long time ago and hope you post many many more videos! Welcome back sir.
Made my day when I saw the notification pop up! Nice shop! Great to hear from you.
Long time subscriber from New Zealand, glad to see you back again, Tom! Good luck setting everything up. Sorry to hear about the loss of your son, since we last saw you. Take care.
My heartfelt condolences regarding your loss. You’re doing the best you can…stay strong and keep busy.
Congratulations on the new shop Tom. I don't know how you did it not having a shop for several years. My wife and I also recently moved and built a 3k square foot automotive and machine shop in the back yard divided into RV/storage bay and workshop. Between packing up the old shop and waiting for the new shop to be finished I was without a shop for about 10 months and that alone about drove me insane.
Looking forward to some new videos coming out of that awesome shop.
Mike
Thanks, Mike. I haven't made a metal chip in nearly two years and am definitely having withdrawals.
Nice to see you Tom. You’ve obviously been keeping busy. Your videos are my favorites of all machining related on here. God bless you and your family. So unfortunate losing your son.
I was thinking of you three days ago. Glad to see you’re alive ! Your videos are my favourite.
You have been missed so it is great to see you back Tom. I'm sorry for your loss.
Welcome back! So glad to see you back! Best shop teacher on UA-cam returns!
I’m sorry about your son Tom. I’m glad you have come back. You’re very talented and gracious with your skill and knowledge. I’ve learned a great deal from you. I can’t thank you enough. Stephen
Thanks Stephen.
Tom glad to see you back, the new shop looks great. I'm very sorry for the loss of your Son, my thoughts are with you and your family.
Great to have you back Tom! I am sorry for your loss. Truly.
Sorry for your loss. The shop is amazing. Looking forward to where you take the channel.
I’m happy to see that you are doing well. Miss your videos.
Nice Shop. Glad to see you are still around.
Please Make more videos of your construction and setup! I love watching people renovate and set up shop. Other people do too.
There isn't much construction left. Just a bit of drywall finishing and paint. My push now is to get everything unpacked and organized so I can start making more instructional videos. That alone is proving to be a major undertaking.
Tom, I love the new shop. Looking forward to you having the opportunity to share more videos with us mere mortals. 🙂 Thank you for sharing.
Joe
Glad your back, hope we get to see your videos soon. Would like to see a video on the Chevelle. Shop looks great!
one of my favorite channels ! glad to see you back. so sorry about your son. thats tough on a family .
Best wishes Tom ,have fun setting up your workshop , it’s a brilliant space . Always enjoyed your projects and guides 👍☘️
Just a thought, if you want your compressor to work in a UP winter make sure it's on the heated side. Not sure if you were heating the mezzanine
I was going to enclose it in a small, somewhat heated room up there, but now I'm thinking about just putting it in the barhroom. You are right, it wouldn't fare well at -20F.
Wow what an awesome shop! Incredible amount of work. I have started building 6 shops and still don't have a finished one. Always had to move on before I finished them. Oh well, maybe someday...
Finally !
Awesome shop.... now to make more educational videos. And finish off the rifle build !
Congratulations on the awesome shop space. 👍🏼
Figured you had moved on, great to see your build and possible re-entry into publishing your work. The new shop is looking good with great pre planning. Always enjoyed what you shared. regards/greg
This is great news! So good to see you in the land of the living! Your machining videos were among the best out there and I was sad when you disappeared. I'm really looking forward to more of them, and car work, etc.
Glad you are back! been wondering where you had gone to. Your video's inspired me to set up a home hobby shop. Sorry for your loss.

Hi Tom, so great to see you back. So many of my friends here in uk have watched your stuff after I told them about your great projects and teaching style. I have built some of your projects and it has helped build my skill set to a new level. Can’t wait to see more from you in due course. Enjoy your lovely new home and shop. regards Martin
That's nice to hear, Martin. It's always good to know that the videos are appreciated.
Tom, Glad to see your coming back. Missed you...
I always love your videos: I learn so much ! Thank you for your time !!!!!!
Tom, great to see you back, kindest regards from Bonnie Scotland. Joe. PS Neve forgot that amazing knurling tool you made, have not seen anything like it commercially.
Tom, I have learned a lot from your machining videos and have missed you fine programs, although I have watched the older ones several times. Glad you are back and doing so well. Wonderful.
Sorry about you losing your Son. I can't imagine how you deal with that. The new shop looks awesome. Thanks for the build photos. I too have an HLV-H, and it was the heaviest machine to move. Very deceiving. I am a retired toolmaker with my own shop and I think your videos are very straight forward. Thanks, and I LOVE your Chevelle!
Thanks, Ray. When I figure out how to deal with it, I'll let you know.
I got the 3-phase wired last week, so the lathe and mill are operational. I also finished up the radiant heat and it's amazing. It took about a day to stabilize, but once the slab was to temp, the boiler hardly ran. I also noticed when I was running conduit, that the air near the ceiling was cool, unlike with forced air. All the heat stays near the floor. The Hardinge is a beast, at over 2000 pounds. It's also very top heavy, which makes it scary as hell to move. I made a pallet for mine and bolted the machine to it for the move. The Chevelle is a handfull to drive with its 540 big block. I also have a Tesla which is a lot quicker and faster, but not near as exciting to drive.
@@TomsTechniques Sounds like the shop is coming along. I'll sub & ring the bell, hopefully you can put out a shop update video. Big block Chevys' rule!
Glad to see you back and congratulations on your new shop!!! Just an fyi, many of us have left UA-cam in the few years you’ve been away. Things are different now. You may want to post across multiple different platforms. Just a suggestion. I stumbled across this after not logging in to you tube for 2 years….. at any rate, glad to see you’re still around and doing well.
I’m sorry for your loss. Glad to see you back.
Dang bud, congrats! Good call on the radiant heat, only way to go. Ditch the stairs and engineer an elevator system.
We put a 401 in a cj5 decades ago, scary amount of power!!
Glad to see you back liked your instructional stuff. I think you are a good teacher. Im a Mechanical Engineer turned entrapenure and so machine shop basics wasnt taught. Hope to learn more from you.
Glad to see you back Tom, God bless
Welcome back Tom ! In time, I sure would like to see how the Stevens Favorite turned out. Really enjoyed that segment...
Wow it's nice to see you again! Your videos were exactly what I needed when I was beginning to play with my machines. The new shop looks awesome!
Hi Tom, good to see you back on YT. I am in a similar (ish) position to you because I moved home last year and my machines and tools have been in storage. I have a steel framed building that I have to refurbish rather than build from scratch which I have just commenced. I will be looking foreward you your updates. My deepest condolences to you and your family on the sad news.
Absolutely wonderful to see you back Tom, you taught me so much, thank you
Hope the move is everything and more than you ould dream for
Glad to see you back also. I have enjoyed your videos and learned a lot. Good luck on your build out.
I was just thinking of you yesterday after rewatching one of your videos for the 10th time. I am so happy to hear you are well and SO looking forward to seeing how your shop turns out. Please upload videos of the buildout….don’t worry about editing it :)

Welcome back, Tom. This looks like a dream shop made into reality. Looking forward to seeing it get up and running. The more detail that you could offer on the process, the better! I'd like to do something similar myself some day. Sorry for your loss of your son; it is a tragedy to see someone pass so young. Glad to see you're hanging in there.
Glad to see you are doing well. I had wondered what had happened to you. I have always enjoyed your videos and I look forward to seeing more in the future
