I have a 2005 ford ranger 4.0 with 4wd and the 5r55 transmission. I have recently been throwing a p0733 for incorrect 3rd gear ratio. When taking off with more than half throttle the rpms will rev 3000 or higher and the light will be thrown.I have a scan tool available and all the gears are present except for 2nd and I have heard the truck has two different shift patterns based on throttle position which I am not sure of but have noticed it to shift smoothly and normally as long as the rpms are maintained below 2000-2100rpm. I dropped my pan and installed a new epc solenoid and filter while also inspecting the fluid for signs of damage which everything looked absolutely fine no shavings and clean fluid. The truck has 58,000 miles on it and I have noticed it to of been somewhat strange while shifting before the code was thrown for a few months prior to it appearing. @@GaryFerraro I believe so. As I take off down the road from a stop it seems to not want to go into second gear as the rpms will climb up into the 3000+ range

Will a worn servo bore cause slow engagement of overdrive ( shifts into over drive when warm but not cold)? Otherwise my transmission shifts fantastic in every other gear
@@GaryFerraro 1-2 is mint , all the gears change great no slip or anything, and overdrive still works, it just decided it only wants to go into overdrive when warm, I had a stall converter originally and it felt really loose for ages and it threw the TCC code, so I changed out to a standard converter, and it feels nice and tight , my mechanic checked solinoids , fluid was great ect, everything checked out good, so I’m abit puzzled
Hi Gary. My 5r55e shifts fine thru all gears but I lost overdrive. Once overdrive is needed around 50 mph and the transmission goes into limp mode flashing light. I'm getting a TCC code a VSS code and Trans range code. What ya think. Second gear is fine
@@GaryFerraro it never goes into fifth. It just holds fourth gear steady and will run 3,000 RPMs at highway speed. Up until that point every gear shifts very smoothly but once it goes in the limp mode the high pressure makes every shift harsh
Hi, a Question please I have a 1999 ford explorer 4.0 5R55E with a code PO715 I was told they need to open the transmission to replace the speed sensor.Is this statement correct? asking for $600.00 if nothing else its broken .
hi Gary. great video. have you ever had a delay engagement into D and a 2/3 shift flare ? 5r55s after overhaul with new servo bore update . we tested vehicle and put it on the bench 2 times . codes po733 and po745 . any thoughts ? very much appreciated. Happy holidays
+xtremegearheads originally we had a burnd od band and destroyed the drum. we replaced the forward planet ,drum sun gear .thanks for replying I've been stumped this is our 6th 5r55s and first issue after a build with servo bushings update oh we also replaced the servo pins too.thanks again for replying special on Xmas . I just want someone to lead me into the next direction .
You replaced the o/d section? There are 2 different sun gears 24t and 38t, yo put the correct sun gear, that will cause the 2-3 flare. By chance have you put a preesure gauge on pc A tap, What sleeves do you use Northland?
No. has to come apart, some companies sell the servo pistons with a bushing on them, think it some type of nylon material but i do not use that product. If you use those servo pistons, you can do this with out gutting the trans, i only use the bushings

if you drive it normally what happens? does it flare on 2-3 shift?

How is the 1-2 shift, the front band is 2nd and 5th. Do you have a scan tool that shows live data

Yes, it is mounted inside, bolted to the center support

@@Pendawa_Diesel_Plus solenoids will not fix the problem, your band is probably broken, anything in the pan when you had the pan down
