    I'm rewatching this on my phone again. I'm probably going to watch this on my laptop later. I'm sitting through multiple ads (I've never done this before on UA-cam), liking every video and subbed. When I get some money I'll buy a sticker, maybe I'll buy two. I hope somehow my efforts hel0 get you knocked through the algorithm. Please keep making videos. This is replacing the void since Grand Tour ended.

      helped my dad do our garage in a previous house and we did it with the floor wet which made dust almost non existent. we also used a planetary floor grinder and just used angle grinder for tight spots.

      There are special concrete grinders with wheels and stuff. They are very expensive, at least the decent ones, but you can rent them. Your back and future you will definitely thank you.

    Most honest explanation of the epoxy process out there. To anyone out there thinking of DIYing this, yes it really is back breaking, and yes it will be dusty.
    If the prep seems easy, you most likely are not doing it right.

    Love the black metal construction tutorials. I have resisted epoxy for years in my garage due to the high chance I'd miss a spot and it would peel. I may just one day suffer thru installing 500 sq ft of porcelain tile in there.

    Started painting in the mid 70's. Oil paints were still big then. Everyone always had a thinner soaked rag close at hand to cleanup drip etc accidents. Every new guy put the rag in his back pocket and forgot about it until his cheek started to burn. Most of us have also stepped off a ladder into a 5 gallon bucket of paint. We learn. Great video making btw!

      @Nbomber When the State declared oils personna non grata I grabbed up 11 gallons of interior oil semi. The stuff works too good to abandon. I have enough for my house and a few good old customers - for a while. The hybrids are great for a dozen reasons but just don't flow like good ole' oil.

    Doing an entire basement with the 7inch grinder is crazy work. Also the dust is absolutely manageable! Local place rented me a standing floor grinder that made light work of the job, and a HEPA grade shop vac kept the dust more than in check (until I forgot to actually seal the bag to the hose intake and wrecked my filter). Great vid though

    @crafterlula1328 Місяць тому

    It's a little pedantic, but there's one thing worth adding. The timing for when you do the work can matter, especially for clear coats on surfaces that experience temperature changes. Concrete expands as it heats up, and it pulls in gas as it does. Once it starts cooling down, concrete off-gasses which can lead to bubbles and a hazy top coat. It's not necessary for every project (for example, it'd be unnecessary for a basement job) but it is one of the things to consider for an outdoor project.

    As someone that's been through this nightmare on an entire house I have the most valuable tip for anyone going about it this way. DO NOT coat the existing concrete. Instead, use a self leveling specialty concrete and cover the whole floor first. The new stain or epoxy will bond better and look like you installed it over a new slab. Added benefit is the floor will be perfectly flat and smooth as well.

    I wouldn't last an hour doing that grinding. The planetary is overkill, but surely there's a way to weld a damn metal pipe to that grinder and use it while standing up?! Or do you feel you'd lose too much control over it, doing that?

      They do make caddies like you're describing for hand grinders with castors - some even have a built-in vacuum (hand grinders are meant to be used for "cutting in" around walls an obstacles). I've seen bigger companies use them but never tried myself. You could use the 20amp planetary, it would probably just take a little longer.

    If you do want to attempt this and it isn’t immediately obvious to you: WEAR A RESPIRATOR. You don’t want concrete dust getting into your lungs. Gnarly stuff. Only commenting because Müjin is wearing one in the video when he’s grinding the floor but doesn’t explicitly mention it.
    A P100 respirator should do the trick. I worked for a company that did similar floor installations and that’s what we used.
    Otherwise, great video!
