I find it astonishing that we can interact with our musical idols like this today. Imagine in the past if you weren't sure how to play Eruption and you said "let me just ask Eddie"..and he showed you lol.
@0:41 "...Depends what kinda mood you're in." Hopefully this clarifies all the confusion everyone's been having, there! 🙄 Jordan's a cool chap. Got to incidentally hang with him watching a Steven Wilson show, while we made occasional commentary between one another throughout. Always seems to have witty things to say.
@0:29 when Jordan rudess says in a video that he will do it slowly.....I’m always prepared to also slow the video by 0,25X ...never know how fast his slow is to our eyes lol 😂
It’s on cameo, it’s mostly for birthday wishes and stuff for 50 dollars, and I took the opportunity to ask him to do this. Best spent 50 dollars in my life! I bet he would have done it for free too, but cameo is an easy way to get in contact!
Good to know that even virtuosos find fast octaves hard. Fast octaves are just SO hard to make sound clean. The most annoying thing is when you can play an entire piece at like 90% mastery but then there’s one section of fast octaves that you play at like 20% mastery and it sounds like crap.
@Shawaiz Yazdani the part at 1:40. an octave is the interval between, for example, middle C and the next C on the piano. what I mean by 'fast octaves' is when you have to play many different octaves quickly. it's the part at 1:40 where jordan says 'that's the hard part' and you can hear him mess up. i can move my fingers pretty quickly but with fast octaves it's more like hand speed rather than finger speed...or something....i just know I'm bad at it.
Funny....I read Fredrik's comment, and just about the time I was thinking the thought that Jordan probably has a hard time 'slowing things down' he turned to the camera and said "woo, that's so slow I forget what I';m doing..." Great minds...(...sigh...) and to think, I taught him everything he knows...
He put dream theater in a new dimension. Him and vitalij kuprij are the best keyboard players i have ever seen (no offense to others like derek sherinian who is an excellent musicien)
Aaaah its a shame that it doesnt show the another part (One thing i did was search on youtube the video *Jordan Rudess - The Dance of the Eternity (Isolated Keyboard)* and play it by ear)
The octaves and the arpeggiated part is tough. Chopin ballade in g minor is a good practive for octaves hehe. I did this solo in 2007 but apparently shit
Looks so funny when #JordanRudess plays... But we know that is so hard to play. Maybe i must to think to sell my little soul to da Devil... Maybe i want money, sing like King Diamond and play piano like Jordan Rudess.
@@fredrikjohansson Because its not THAT fast live. Jordan is great btw, im a big fan and im wondering why he is still doing this. This is not the first time watching him playing it like that
@@andrewcomplainer it's a lot harder to play on a piano rather than a keyboard because you have to put more force into pressing the keys, I have seen him play it well on his solo piano tours though so not sure why he is playing it like that in this
He's a great pianist. BUT. He's shit at being subtle live and on acoustic sessions. He plays too loud and way too much. Derek was better in that area, way better.
THANKYOU sooooo much for posting this, I’ve been trying to figure the fingering out for so long
Thank you! That was the reason I posted it, if there might have been someone out there struggling with it like me!
I find it astonishing that we can interact with our musical idols like this today. Imagine in the past if you weren't sure how to play Eruption and you said "let me just ask Eddie"..and he showed you lol.
It is totally amazing! I have been wanting to ask this for decades and could now have the wizard himself to show me!
Imagine how Bach have felt when he met dieterich buxtude lol. Days before communication technology as we know it missed out
1:42 I swear he grows extra fingers
Saw him play this live during the anniversary of Metropolis pt. 2. It was a magical moment
I also saw them, so happy to see it, because I missed the first one 20 years ago. Rudess was awesome at stage, you can tell he really loves it!
I should have seen it too, but it was canceled in my country during this pandemic, what a sad :(
I wish I could have seen it. It would have made my life.
Same!
I got to see them tour as well, back in 2019
The Meshuggah part and then this ragtime part really made me ecstatic even to this day. Dance of Eternity is a insanely genius composition.
Jordan is a complete master! The fact that he did this recording for you shows how much he is in for the love of art.
Everyone complaining about he not explaining, read the description.
@0:41 "...Depends what kinda mood you're in."

Check it out I'll do it slowly "diditingtingtingtjgnanskskehe" or "dadadididdooootitititng" depends what kinda mood you're in.
Simple.
God damn!! This guy is insane!! Love JR and love DT!! Another pianist who I have immense request for is John Baptiste!!!
I could not find Baptiste on Cameo. love that guy too! What would you ask him?
@0:29 when Jordan rudess says in a video that he will do it slowly.....I’m always prepared to also slow the video by 0,25X ...never know how fast his slow is to our eyes lol 😂
I feel you :D
Playing it at a slower tempo reminds of Monk's self-titled ragtime album. Killer!!!
So you ask jordan to make a video... AND HE MADE IT??
WOW :D
It’s on cameo, it’s mostly for birthday wishes and stuff for 50 dollars, and I took the opportunity to ask him to do this. Best spent 50 dollars in my life! I bet he would have done it for free too, but cameo is an easy way to get in contact!
@@fredrikjohansson well its still very nice!
Wait he has hair
WTF
This is cursed
that might explain why he missed those notes at the end, no 360 degrees reflection
Quarantine hair.
Before Rhythm of Time, a lot of
Jordan Rudess is in a class by himself. Dream Theater is lucky to have him.
Wow! One of my favourite moment on Scenes from a memory. :)
0:41 So depending on your mood, either do the 2 octave run, or do the 3 octave version. Got it, lol ;)
Good to know that even virtuosos find fast octaves hard. Fast octaves are just SO hard to make sound clean. The most annoying thing is when you can play an entire piece at like 90% mastery but then there’s one section of fast octaves that you play at like 20% mastery and it sounds like crap.
Yeah, and the audience will remember those 20 % 🥲

this guy is good. he should play with dream theater
Man, i had the same thought, googled it, and you had already done it. Thank you so much for sharing.
Thanks! the part at 0:50 was killing me!
I can watch stuff like this all day ❤
He is literally a GOD!
Aw, this was talently cute!
I am not even a musician...
Why is this in my recommendations?
I think I accidentally tagged it as “home improving” instead of “music” in the beginning!
because he is a wizard.....😂
Because that's something you MUST know, even as a regular human being
Beac
Veljko Djuric BEACAUSEVITS EPIC
Damn this is actually a very clever way to use cameo
I came here from the rock dropped 1500 feet video.
Ur awesome!
This is why I love Jordan Ruddess
I always smile when i hear this, is the piano melody that define my childhood
Genius Jordan
Simply the best !!
Is it just me, or is he having more fingers than normal?
Funny....I read Fredrik's comment, and just about the time I was thinking the thought that Jordan probably has a hard time 'slowing things down' he turned to the camera and said "woo, that's so slow I forget what I';m doing..." Bravissimo!👍😄
why and how am i headbanging to this
im here 2024
Brilliant
0:41 I wouldn't have ever believed he'd make a mistake by making something more complex :D
0:25 I laughed so hard!
That face at 0:17 is priceless lol
He put dream theater in a new dimension. Him and vitalij kuprij are the best keyboard players i have ever seen (no offense to others like derek sherinian who is an excellent musicien)
Woah thats really helpful. Now i can play piano eventhough yesterday i cant
And tomorrow you can learn words and stuff too
Looking like a history teacher with that hair
this oldman is gooddddddddd
Nice!!!
There is a ragtime tune I taught my sister to play for a piano recital. They’re fun to play. I think it was the theme song to the movie The Sting.
The master!!!
Aaaah its a shame that it doesnt show the another part (One thing i did was search on youtube the video *Jordan Rudess - The Dance of the Eternity (Isolated Keyboard)* and play it by ear)
Sorry, I only asked for exactly this part! 😕
@@fredrikjohansson Haha Dont worry
Ah, my new life goal!
That tiny delay when compared to the live videos makes it look as if he struggles somewhat.
It’s because it’s a real grand piano he is playing here, you need a lot more force compared to the digital keyboard he uses live.
@@fredrikjohansson That makes sense. Thanks.
The octaves and the arpeggiated part is tough. Chopin ballade in g minor is a good practive for octaves hehe. I did this solo in 2007 but apparently shit
Ok, let's ask Greg Phillinganes to do Giant Steps for us ^^
We need full slower version
Jogging with the hands
Looks so funny when #JordanRudess plays... But we know that is so hard to play.
Maybe i must to think to sell my little soul to da Devil... Maybe i want money, sing like King Diamond and play piano like Jordan Rudess.
Does he throw rock into excavation holes?
Can you play it slowest please? 😅😅😅
😅😅😅😅👍
That slow version is still too fast for my finger 😭😭😭
when he play slowly I got Mr. Bean animated version’s vibe
He actually always swing-feels it??
OMG! he has hair
I'm not really a pianist so that bassline is super hard to play with the treble
Oh my god!hair!!
omg at 1:38 he has a hunchback because of the amount of time he spent playing piano
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏😸
Wait what?when does jordan get an hair?
I imagine that long wizardry hair would look cool on him!
@@fredrikjohansson ohh,and his wizard hat, that would be freakin awesome
When the arpeggio and the octaves coming, he slows down
He doesn’t slow down when playing live! ua-cam.com/video/gADU0l-eevA/v-deo.html

Didn’t knew mr garrison played piano
In very slow It sounds like Plants v Zombies hahaha
Faster still...ill have to remember that. Slow, moderate, fast...and then....
Very funny
So this is how you look when you have 10 brains
Sadly that he is looks old, and im a fans since 2008
dragging hardcore
Lol...he played so slowly he forgot what he was doing....🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
David Gilmour plays a board
If you can play it slowly...
Why no bald??
When you can't even play it slow🤣🤣
It ain't easy bein white #RIPFranklin
Now i can live with my octaves better...
Its weird to see jordan with hair
I though he play it with that doll
I think he could do it, but he want that you see wath he is doing
Are you the Morgan Freeman of Synthesis?
'Not quite my tempo'
Jordan please shave your head
He did, a long time ago!
He's a great pianist. BUT. He's shit at being subtle live and on acoustic sessions. He plays too loud and way too much. Derek was better in that area, way better.
And Kevin Moore was even better
Worst lesson ever i love Jordan but he's just showing off here
He did exactly what I asked him to do, I asked him to play it slower once, and then faster so I could correct my finger setting.
That's very good lesson actually
If you get to a certain level, you don't want to be taught like a newbie
