You know, this truck was actually developed as a competitor to Scania in the Swedish logging industry, the engine used in the F16 variant was the D16 as seen in the configurator. This D16 engine was a little special in the fact that it was developed especially for this new F16 truck set to release in 1987, and would have an unusually high torque output of 2,650 Nm to go with its 465hp. This was so because the newly facelifted Volvo F series truck's addition in this F16 model was designed for hauling train weight loads, sometimes in excess of 50 or even close to 60 tonnes, usually of course being fully loaded log trailers, but this is why it did so well in Squirrels Hill haulage test.
The nostalgia of this truck to an old German series about trucking called "Auf Achse". Which probably translated in English would be called "On The Road". It was a great German action/adventure series from the late 70's to mid 90's. Here's an English wiki: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auf_Achse_(TV_series)
With the front bumpers, the F12 and F16 were available with either the standard bumper, which is the one with the fog lights, or the heavy duty bumper, which is made of thick metal to provide extra protection at the front and has no fog lights. A lot of F12 and F16 trucks in Europe were used for heavy haulage and in arduous conditions where the heavy duty bumper was a much better option than the standard unit. The F12 and especially F16 weren't just more powerful versions of the more familiar F10 and FL10, they were much more heavily and strongly built as well as being available with more powerful engine options. The front air dam lip and the door skirts that cover the upper steps were part of the factory aero kit that was available from Volvo to reduce air drag for highway trucks. The upper steps were still fitted but they were covered with these skirts which were attached to the cab doors and opened with them, they just reduced the drag caused by the air becoming trapped in the inset area between the cab corner and the front mud guard. I don't know that many trucks were actually fitted with the aero kits, but certainly a number of the Volvo press fleet trucks were fitted with the full kit and if you look up period tests of the trucks you will see them fitted. It was quite a rare thing to see an F12 and particularly the F16 in highway use in Europe, the F10 and FL10 were plenty adequate for most operators needs, though a few of the big international operators like Norbert Dentressangle did run F16s for trans-European trunk runs between depots, I saw a few of their F16s going in and out of their base near where I went to school in the ;midlands during the '80s (mostly they were twin round headlight F16s, the previous style to this truck, but I did see a couple of these as well towards the end of my time there...) The F12 and F16 were very popular as highway trucks in the middle east though, and South America where the extra power made them very capable of tackling the mountain passes and long climbs that are common on highways there. The fact that they were one of not many trucks that were available with a factory air conditioning system that actually worked in the '80s probably didn't hurt either and it's still a fairly common sight to see an F12 or F16 of this, or even the previous generation, working hard for its living in those areas today, hence, perhaps, the proliferation of middle eastern/Iranian style mods for these trucks...
The numbers designate the engine displacement, so F12 = 12 litre engine, F16 = 16 litre engine, etc. IIRC the F16 was available in 470 and 520bhp versions and the 12-litre F12 in 420 and 360bhp.
The Mk 3 F12 came as a 400 (which may have been the same 385bhp that it had before the Mk 3 update) or a 360, the F16 was launched as a 470 with 465bhp, later increased to 485bhp
This is a real great mod. Especially for German players who remember the famous German Truck TV Show "Auf Achse". Because one the main caracters was driving such a Volvo.
The problem with hooking into the SiSl pack is that the SiSl pack would have to be made to work with it, meaning the truck itself without SiSl support would need to use parts from other trucks. (Like the dash slot, which I assume is from the renault magnum.)
Ah the F 12 360 first truck I ever drove as a job. Drove alot of newer Scanias after not a single one better. One thing that's kinda off is the Stick shifter. This is a American market Volvo Fuller. EU and Asia all had a slim stick even with the Fuller gearbox.
Can confirm it's a great truck, Just did a 70t special transport with it, so I can also confirm it can pull that. (It's a bit challenging but who doesn't like a nice trucking challenge.)
You should do some more vintage truck mod reviews! I really enjoyed it and it would be cool to see some more old timer trucks! Just a thought, have a nice day👋🏻, Max
no wonder that vintage dash looked familiar, my hunch last vid was right, even i'm using this truck right now for a refresher, not pulling fridge boxes tho, mostly container trailers or flatbeds, since my personal truck is the MAN F90 series, 16 gears gives you a lot of hill control
I love the truck so much it looks and feels like it did back than. I used to drive that truck when I drove trucks, No other mood I have found is this great! Love the content keep up the great work!!
I had this late last year and loved it the shape is great I have many books on the F10 12 &16 I had that style 2 on it and love that you uploaded this on my birthday!.. :-)
I've used this truck for a while now (saw it on another stream) and TBH its excellent, runs perfectly, sounds good, looks great... if you fit the strongest engine in there, i believe it can reach 150-160 km/h, fastest i went with it in a test run was 172 km/h down a hill... good vids, keep up the work.
That's a nice little truck, but I like my Freightliner FLB. I drive identical ones in ATS & ETS2. Which can be confusing as far as which game I am in, but it does give nice continuity.
Put the .scs or ZIP/RAR file into the Euro Truck Simulator 2/mod folder, same way we have done since 2013. Is this your first mod? Or in the case of Workshop mods, simply hit "Subscribe" and it will be downloaded ready for use, just go to the Mod Manager and enable it.
The paintjob is the same paintjob that was used by a Finnish transport company Teljän Kuljetus Oy. It went bankrupt in 2008 after they had a taxdebt of over a million euros for the Finnish National Tax Administration.
Hi ElSquirrelo! I've already seen this truck and tried it in ETS2 and it is a very good mod, but I decided to click on this video anyway, I wanted to hear what do you think of it and just because your videos are entertaining and well made. Have a good one! :)
I actually used to have one as my main truck in ETS2, but I made the mistake of selling it because of its fuel consumption, and then ended replacing it with an Iveco Turbostar 480 special
Downloaded this truck when i saw Squirrel's last video, Great truck overall i'd say Good engine sound, functionnal gauges, and even though there's a lack of engines imo it does pretty well with somewhat heavy loads (didn't dare to do more than 30 tons even with a 6x4 chassis) i only wish there were more interior options and maybe better looking wheel imo.
I wonder when we will get the first official SCS made retro trucks? Mods are great but as an official company that licenses the items they want, they end up having that much more access to the material and a more standardized way of implementing all that into a standard quality default products.
My dad had a f16 tow truck once and he pulled a really looong crane truck out of a ditch and he pulled a truck from somewhere in southern norrland in sweden to trelleborg
he lives in the Uk where working as a truck driver does not pay that great unless you put serious hours behind the wheel. Also he more than likely makes more money from youtube.
I love this mod! Paul you’ll hold a grudge against me for this but I think it performs BETTER than any other trucks in the game including Scania. Don’t kappa me 😑 lol
Squirrel Please do more ETS truck reviews I'm looking for more trucks to download but don't know which are the best. Yes i know there are other UA-camrs that do it but you are the best. :-)
Of course you didnt noticed how engines are weaker then newer trucks because they added WAY to much torque than it should have, F16 465HP 2015NM and F12 385HP 1600NM
Some reason the sat nav didnt work, and after my first delivery the game kept crashing so i had to remove it, which is a shame as its a really nice truck
Great video, as usual. Love the older trucks, I looked at this mod but went with the F88 by XBS. Used to fix F88's back in the day, the guy has done a fantastic job in an amazingly short time. You should check it out, i think you'll like it. It is'nt perfect, but it's early days yet hopefully he keep tweeking it. For now the F88 is my go to truck, but if I get bored I might give the F12 a spin. BTW, is any one working on some realy old school trucks? You know 50's and 60's, I would love to drive a Leyland Super Hippo or a Scammell Constructor. Ahhhh, memories. They are all I have left, at least untill the altzimers kicks in.
Ok might be a dumb question but American trucker here, also been told if you dont ask you dont know. What is the blue TIR on the grill for? Is it like a license plate or I heard in Europe they put a L on beginner drivers cars, is it something like that?

Good to see truck mod reviews back :D
The thing i really love about this truck is the sound of the engine and gearbox, its sounds just like the reallity // a happy streamer!
I'm currently using this truck for some while now, loving it. However you forgot the second interior option. I wish air horns worked in more trucks.
Back when Squirrel used to upload truck sim... Good old days
This mod has always been my favourite truck mod for ETS2. I have spent almost 50 hours in JUST this truck. Great mod.
Pretty much spot on to what it was.. and it really was a nice lorry to drive, also went on forever!!
Great Mod Paul I used to drive one of those back in the 80s and it was the best truck available then Cheers
Good to hear :)
I also like retro trucking. I'm currently using a MAN TGA by Madster. Great mod I must say!
I wish you did more mod reviews nowadays this is how i discovered your channel many years ago
Ever since watching your video covering the stream, I've been in love with this truck. It drives so damn well. Great content as always, dude!
Volvo F series includes F12, F16 and F10. It was produced from about 1977. I am not sure when it stopped being produced.
PRAYED for a mod like this! My dad used to drive one of these.
wow love this volvo F series Vintage keep up the good work on the mod reviews and please do more of this
This is a real great mod. Especially for German players who remember the famous German Truck TV Show "Auf Achse". Because one the main caracters was driving such a Volvo.
I cant find this mod on steam even when i clicked the link in the description
miss these type of videos! i found this channel back in the day from ETS2 mod research
The problem with hooking into the SiSl pack is that the SiSl pack would have to be made to work with it, meaning the truck itself without SiSl support would need to use parts from other trucks. (Like the dash slot, which I assume is from the renault magnum.)
loving it. having problems with left mirror though.
My god that sound of the blow off valve. So iconic on the f12 amazing that they thought about it.
Stacks and standard exhaust with change over valve very common on show trucks basically loud or quiet with the flick of a switch
Drove this truck before and it's a really nice to drive
Ah the F 12 360 first truck I ever drove as a job.
Drove alot of newer Scanias after not a single one better.
One thing that's kinda off is the Stick shifter. This is a American market Volvo Fuller. EU and Asia all had a slim stick even with the Fuller gearbox.
I had this mod from modnet ...brilliant and simple mod
Takes me back. I learnt to drive in a Volvo F10
I think an Iranian made this mode in Iran people love this truck my dad used to have one of these trucks
it comes with all iran accessories
Can confirm it's a great truck, Just did a 70t special transport with it, so I can also confirm it can pull that. (It's a bit challenging but who doesn't like a nice trucking challenge.)
You should do some more vintage truck mod reviews! I really enjoyed it and it would be cool to see some more old timer trucks! Just a thought, have a nice day👋🏻, Max
Bring back trucking diaries!!!
Wow this is what I like to see throw in some more of this stuff!!!!!
no wonder that vintage dash looked familiar, my hunch last vid was right, even i'm using this truck right now for a refresher, not pulling fridge boxes tho, mostly container trailers or flatbeds, since my personal truck is the MAN F90 series, 16 gears gives you a lot of hill control
Nice review, reminds me of your old videos which got me into ETS2 back in 2014. Cheers!
The truck has the classic looks... Something I love to see a bit more in the game
I love the truck so much it looks and feels like it did back than. I used to drive that truck when I drove trucks, No other mood I have found is this great! Love the content keep up the great work!!
Dear Mr. Squirrel,
Thank you very much your introduce and link about this awesome truck.
Best Regards,
Peter
Glad for more mod reviews

Very cool Volvo and the sound is great
Finally another mod review! Hoping to see more in the future! :D
Loved these old videos
Will definitely check this out. Great sounding truck.

Who cares about the top speed? Only retards disable the limiter...
I’ve never understood what trade off you get between the 6x2 and the taglifts, midlifts, and all that jazz.
That's a nice little truck, but I like my Freightliner FLB. I drive identical ones in ATS & ETS2. Which can be confusing as far as which game I am in, but it does give nice continuity.
The truck looks soo good
Gurveer Mann how to put on ETS2 when downloaded?
Put the .scs or ZIP/RAR file into the Euro Truck Simulator 2/mod folder, same way we have done since 2013. Is this your first mod? Or in the case of Workshop mods, simply hit "Subscribe" and it will be downloaded ready for use, just go to the Mod Manager and enable it.
DigitalX thanks buddy I'll try that next time! One last question.
Can I buy this straight off steam?
DigitalX yep it is my first mod!
Ah I see, I have modding this game for close to 5 years now. There is a plethora of modifcations to suit any taste, enjoy!
Aaaah yes a good ol' mod review
This truck is still used a lot in Iran that’s why it’s got the Iran options
Great videos dude!!!Keep it up!!
@squirrel I was using this mod for quite some time.. really love the F series.. great truck to drive(in ets2 obviously)
The paintjob is the same paintjob that was used by a Finnish transport company Teljän Kuljetus Oy. It went bankrupt in 2008 after they had a taxdebt of over a million euros for the Finnish National Tax Administration.
Este mod ya está actualizando para la 1.43???
Hi ElSquirrelo! I've already seen this truck and tried it in ETS2 and it is a very good mod, but I decided to click on this video anyway, I wanted to hear what do you think of it and just because your videos are entertaining and well made. Have a good one! :)
I actually used to have one as my main truck in ETS2, but I made the mistake of selling it because of its fuel consumption, and then ended replacing it with an Iveco Turbostar 480 special
Yes finally your doing mod reviews again😀
This Volvo is a beast in ETS2 50ton Np
As usual splendid video Mr.squirrel
Downloaded this truck when i saw Squirrel's last video, Great truck overall i'd say
Good engine sound, functionnal gauges, and even though there's a lack of engines imo it does pretty well with somewhat heavy loads (didn't dare to do more than 30 tons even with a 6x4 chassis)
i only wish there were more interior options and maybe better looking wheel imo.
That's how it looks in real life.
Oh my god..! 19:45 Please, someone tell me how he zoomed into the dashboard?? Been tryting to find a way for ages.......
when I think of a truck, immediately Volvo F comes to my mind
used to drive a real one of these!!!! great sim, very close to real thing
love your *ETS reviews mr squirrel :D
There's a really nice Volvo F88 which is cool AF, I'd love to see you review that one! :D
I believe that it is better to go to neutral when going around corners
I wonder when we will get the first official SCS made retro trucks?
Mods are great but as an official company that licenses the items they want, they end up having that much more access to the material and a more standardized way of implementing all that into a standard quality default products.
Best mod ever for ets2
Glad to see these mod reviews back!
This being said, ETS2 (truck) modding seems to be in a bit of a slump - this mod being a noticeable exception.
Awesome video!!
How do you teleport using the new console in ETS? F9 doesn’t work anymore
Love a good retro truck. i would love to see a decent high quality mod for both the Mercedes SK powerliner or the DAF 3600 ATi
My dad had a f16 tow truck once and he pulled a really looong crane truck out of a ditch and he pulled a truck from somewhere in southern norrland in sweden to trelleborg
In train sim is there the new bright line that’s in Florida?
Back in the days, most truck would use trhe Michelin doll on top of the cab... Was hoping to see, you were going to fit it too
You should definitely become a truck driver. You’d be great at it!
he lives in the Uk where working as a truck driver does not pay that great unless you put serious hours behind the wheel. Also he more than likely makes more money from youtube.
I love this mod! Paul you’ll hold a grudge against me for this but I think it performs BETTER than any other trucks in the game including Scania. Don’t kappa me 😑 lol
16:45 ProMods Maps?
It's not available on my Euro truck simulator 2 . how do i get this on my pc
Yes this mod is made by a Iranian person the reason this is made is because in iran the Volvo fh16 is used alot
i have a modded scania 143m but its to high to get under the trailer how do i fix this?
Can you show the settings you are using ?
Where can I download the Iceland map that he is using in this game? Thanks!
Can you show me where you buy the Scania 143 on ets2 please
Squirrel Please do more ETS truck reviews I'm looking for more trucks to download but don't know which are the best. Yes i know there are other UA-camrs that do it but you are the best. :-)
Looks like F208 on iceland quite a fun one :)
Hello,this truck have animated hoses?
Can you give me that mod for turning on and off interior light?
Of course you didnt noticed how engines are weaker then newer trucks because they added WAY to much torque than it should have, F16 465HP 2015NM and F12 385HP 1600NM
lovely volvo f12
Do a video on the Volvo F88 next, its great but has kinda limited customization
Some reason the sat nav didnt work, and after my first delivery the game kept crashing so i had to remove it, which is a shame as its a really nice truck
When you said Start up I was interrupted by a O'Reilly Commiral.
Love this truck!
Can someone tell me how to install mods for version 1.31?!
Old school trucking. Can you make a review from the Tesla semi truck mod for ATS?
Those Iranian mod developers should also work for a BMC truck mod. Both Fatih and Pro could be OK.
I tried the F88 a couple of weeks ago. I think this is a better mod.
Squirrel : Ill have to give it a go then, thanks.
Squirrel, is that apc trailer a mod or in a dlc?
A very good looking truck :)
What is the light mod?
Ok might be a dumb question but American trucker here, also been told if you dont ask you dont know.
What is the blue TIR on the grill for? Is it like a license plate or I heard in Europe they put a L on beginner drivers cars, is it something like that?
Alright then last dumb question. In the USA never heard of a retarder. Are they mostly engine brakes?
eric l TIR was the plate that international transport trucks had back in the 70's, before the Shengen and such. It was so widespread that in some languages ended up meaning "truck"
eric l retarders are eddy current brakes. They make less noise, just a slight hum that gets higher pitched the faster you go before activate them, and also they get more effective. They can keep steady speed in downhills too
Cool so the retarders are like American engine brakes so you all dont have engine brakes over there?
Most trucks and buses have both electromagnetic retarders and engine braking. I used to love the rumble of truck engine brakes!
