  • The Longines Pilot Majetek continues the brand's high-flying heritage. From measuring Lindberg's first transatlantic flight to the monopusher chronograph worn by Amelia Earhart and the Weems, Longines' tradition of pilot's watches is a storied one. By the time the 1930s rolled around, Longines had developed a simple system for tracking time in the form of an arrow that rotated with the bezel. You could align it with either the hour or minute hand, using it to keep a record of departure time or the time of a change incourse. In 1935, by order from the Czechoslovakian Air Force, Longines created the ref. 3582, with the same moving marker, in a cushion case. It is this very reference, and the engraving "Majetek Vojenske Spravy" ("property of the military administration" in Czech/Slovak), that gave rise to the Majetek model, now reincarnated in the Longines Pilot Majetek 2023 reissue.

    Great looking watch. Really impressed with Longines lately.

    Great-looking watch, but I fail to see why the 40mm size of the original wasn’t large enough.

    I'd love a 39mm field or pilot watch with that bezel - something that Hanhart inexplicably offers only in 42 mm size. Come on Longines!

    I like this very much. This really needed to get to 40mm D and 47mm L2L.

    I was born in Czechoslovakia, and I love how clearly and correctly you spelled "Majetek vojenské správy", and I love the fact that Longine used this "Majetek" word, which sounds like Major Tech, giving it a great new meaning...
    I love your channel :)

    I ve had them for 4 months. Majetek looks great and fits like a part of a body. For my surprise, it does just a minute "plus" for a month. Looking forward for next years.

    I love it, this is what I was waiting for! I almost purchased a Heritage 1935, which was also issued for the Czech military originally, but I didn't like the date complication there. Also, most of the brands goes to smaller sizes, but Longines keep something large for big guys as well. I will buy it once available here. Great video, as always.

    Like that they use a silicone spring. If they charge a premium it's nice to know they are making an effort. Same way with their high-beat movement in the Ultra Chron.

    I think this is a nice watch. I like the design for sure
    But, it’s a bit big/thick, I like the look of the bezel but not keen on friction prefer a clicking bezel. I like the hour markers crisp raised and nice faux patina, I would have kept the second subdial the same colour scheme myself. Good movement for sure. Quite pricey
    I think it’s a niche watch which will appeal to certain people but not mainstream.
    I like it a lot but not enough to buy it

    Spot on! Proves less is more keep the dictionary for the book shelf not the dials. Ok is not exactly like the original and for that I understand some are disappointed however then you need a replica or an original a tribute or remake should be wearable, reliable and useful.

    I love cushion case design with coin edge bezel. I just wish it was smaller overall and the bezel wasn't so thick. The proportions seem off.

    No idea why they feel a need to link this to a specific vintage piece. The original was “close to 30mm” this is 43mm. They’ve given in crown guards, changed the hands, 22mm lug spacing…… 36-40mm would have been plenty.
    Longines and Oris for that matter to be looking to enter Tudor’s market. That price of almost $3800 is right in-line with Tudor pricing, it will be interesting to see how this is received. The big 43mm BB’s are cool, but they’re big, a bit clunky and slab sided. Maybe they were looking to appeal to that buyer rather than someone more interested in a Ranger or BB58.

      The original was sized at 40mm! Certainly oversized for its time

    • @waterfordrs22
      @waterfordrs22 Рік тому

      I see, I misheard the video. Yes, a 40mm watch would have been quite large for the time indeed. I wouldn’t be surprised if it used a pocket watch movement. One version I found had wire lugs.
      That aside, all the more reason to have me scratching my head - why wouldn’t they go with a true to size and better proportioned 40mm?

    • @watchnerds
      @watchnerds Рік тому

      @@waterfordrs22 I think it has to do with the bezel mechanism, the bezel have teeth underneath that drive a shaft which connect to the pointer bezel inside the case, which prevent the top part of the case (crystal housing together with bezel) turns and became a weak point for water resistant while the solution used in this watch only requires gasket in the shaft just like the general internal rotating bezel diver watches and its extra crown. The shaft mechanism contained in that 1935 plaque, thus the diameter.

    Great-looking watch, but a bit too big. For that kind of money, I still prefer a vintage Omega 2292 RAF 159 or the HS/8 with true flying heritage.

    It looks as if it was designed by committee - take an archive design, modernise it & then a group of managers want their say in the design: “how about faux patina?”, “can you make it larger?”, “how about adding crown guards like they did to the Air King?” etc

    Its truly a reissue, a watch from the 30's and a size from the 2000's. Not sure why it needs to be 43mm - its not original to the design or the times, then or now.
