- Sooty Mold is very much misunderstood and not talked about. In fact most gardeners that may experience it find themselves scratching their heads wondering what in the world is this BLACK MOLD" like residue on my citrus. Listen and learn what it is and how to deal with it.
Thank you for sharing this; I'm dealing with it on my Meyer Lemon tree right now. Very helpful!
You are so very welcome
I have mold but I do not see any insect except some spiders.
ok
What do you mean by ants that protect the insects?
Hi thanks for the help! You are the only one I’ve seen make a video on this! So just to be clear, I know you said it can kill your tree eventually but if you catch it early, it’s treatable? I have 4 small citrus trees and I believe it’s starting to happen with at least 3 of them. I saw some stuff online saying it’s best to throw them away or spray something with copper on it, is that true?
If you want one of my secrets than listen up. You probably already have some dish detergent in your home. However, I prefer to purchase a organic non toxic dish detergent from costco. I use 1 tablespoon to one gallon of water and spray the entire tree down in the late afternoon. Repeat this weekly as the sooty mold persist. If it rains in your area, please spray 1 hour before the rain, so that the rain can help wash away the waxy coating that sooty mold leaves. and repeat after the rain has subsided. Another organic way it to also just go to your tree and use warm just below hot water and put in a 5 gallon sprayer and clean the leaves. Take care
@@elderyehudahwatchmanoftheg8425 thanks a lot!
Thank you! My lemon tree has black on the fruit and the leaves. You've inspired me to know what to do about it. I'm on my way out to the garden!
HalleluYAH
How do you keep the ants away? I think this is the problem that I have written to you about with my Myers Lemon and Orange trees

@@elderyehudahwatchmanoftheg8425 Thank you! I'll buy some diatomacious earth and give it a try! Thank you for your reply! I enjoy watching all your videos. I live in Orange County Ca.
I have several different kinds of citrus and my meiwa kumquat has sooty mold and scale but no ants, and im in a second floor apartment building, so i could get a pressure spray on it or neem oil but im not sure i can cover every leaf of all 6 citrus in neem oil for weeks
Great video! It was very interesting. Thank you 😊.
Very wise my lemons had slight mold lused to wash them dry with a tea towel not even bother bout the mold will try this thank you..
Thank you for the video. May I ask what size of your container use for your citrus?
40 gallons, they are no longer made but you can cut a wine barrel more than half way up and get the saem size or more if you like. They will just be heavier.
Awesome 🤩
If I already see black mold on my tree and there's a lot of them what should I do? Should I just spray water anyway or prune the leaves and branches that was already infected?
did you see insects? if not why would you spray? take fruit off and next time spray 1 tablespoon baking soda mixed with water on the tree during the fall season.
@elderyehudahwatchmanoftheg8425 Hi, yes, a lot of small insects, fruit flies, and spiders, too. We haven't done anything to the tree for 2 years, so it's overgrowning and not well kept, but the tree is still producing fruits. Will try the baking soda next time.
Oh it's a big tree/ Than it is time to prune and open of the canopy so the tree could get sunlight down through the canopy to other leaves and the center.
wow i never heard of “black mold” or think they can get this. it’s always best to know now than have rotten fruit. Bugs like sweet things so it will attract them right?
Thanks for sharing great information elder
