Hi Heather! I’m a Catholic wife and mother of 4, and I’m a stay at home mom! Very encouraging video, thanks! We try to schedule in family prayer time, too-usually a rosary. Just another way to spend time together while putting the Lord first! PS. I’m one of those people with a cooking channel here on UA-cam! If you or anyone reading wants to visit, I have lots of recipe ideas 😊
I’ve been at this for 21 years now. I think the key is routines and the 2 minute rule. If something is going to take 2 minutes or less to do, do it now and don’t put it off and clutter doesn’t build. All that said, when you have littles just give yourself grace and don’t spend so much time worrying about a clean house than loving on your babies. I wasted too much time being “busy” instead of playing with the kids!! As always, Heather, great video that always inspires me!! Thank you!
The other day I did a bunch of stuff outside in 100 degree heat (boy stuff) and I called my husband (who was away at the time) and told him how I felt really bad about all of those times I didn’t have dinner ready bc working physically demanding jobs, getting that uncomfortable, it’s not pleasant and I can see how a tidy home and dinner AND NOT COMPLAINING can make his transition home SO much more comfortable and pleasing and then he can be ready to engage in family life. I do try to always ask myself “what would I want in this scenario?” It’s a good marriage question for almost any situation. 😉
I am so glad to have found your channel. It's an amazing antidote to all the materialism out there. I'm a SAHM to 3 and trying to raise them in the GREAT Catholic faith!
This a great video. As a fellow homemaker my greatest tip is to get dressed to shoes even if you will be at home all day. My productivity sky rocketed once I got out of my workout/comfy clothes.
I was told before that there are many GOOD things to do but there are certain things that are ANOINTED by God. Those are the things that prove our obedience and trust in God. I used to feel guilty because I spent so much time cleaning and taking care of our home and not the "good deeds" I THOUGHT I should be doing (like evangelizing or signing up for every committee at church). Now I see that if God wants me to clean our toilet, and I do it with an obedient heart, it is the most anointed thing I can do at that moment. Loved your video today!!!
Is it a coincidence that you posted this video on October 2nd? Today is the anniversary of Opus Dei. St. Josemaría, its founder, preached exactly what you said on your video: we’re called to sanctify our lives through work, whatever work we have, from homemaking to a surgeon to a construction worker... All love to God is showed in the smallest details! Thank you!!! You made me smile!
I definitely enjoy home making even though it can be challenging with kids. I love the scene from the movie mom’s night out when she is in the closet hiding from her house eating chocolate... I think we have all had moments like that.
Since this is a community for each other please share your advice to new homemakers? What are your tips and tricks! And what do you love most about homemaking:)
A Catholic Mom's Life my favorite thing about homemaking is decorating, I love all things creative. And my tip for new homemakers is clean your counters with mrs Myers spray the scents make me happy to clean
My grandmother was a home making queen. There are little touches that she did that to this day make me feel cozy and comfortable when I see someone else do them.. like how she made a beautiful bed or had flowers on the dining room table. I have started incorporating them into what I do so my kids get a taste of the love I got from her. Sometimes it is the inspiration I need to make homemaking meaningful and full of love. God bless!
Heather!! I loved this video so much! ❤️❤️ Thank you for your support of homemaking! I agree with you that serving our family with love is such a gift, Holy, and totally sacrificial! Our vocation as a wife & mother is something that can be very mundane in the day to day operations of our homes. Choosing to serve our family with a joyful heart is the key!
Heather, I loved this video! Serving our family with love, even when we’re feeling less than loving, is such a gift. In many ways it gets easier when the children grow and have more independence, but there are always challenges. Our attitude is everything. Yes to the meal planning! It’s such a game changer. I meal planned weekly since I got married 24 years ago, but I’m in a particularly busy season of life right now, so started meal planning quarterly instead this year. I make a simple monthly menu plan that I repeat for a quarter, then swap meals out for the next quarter. It has made such a difference.
Heather I totally understand what you are talking about. For me at first, Homemaking was hard but as I grow older am learning to love it. Yes it’s important for our husbands to come to a clean home. They tend to be happier when the home is clean. I actually make sure that my daughter bath and food is ready before my husband comes home. My daughter wakes up at 5am too! I guess is the toddler stage. Thanks for sharing!
I'm also not a fan of cleaning. I love a clean home but I generally dislike these menial tasks. Something that I found helpful is to completely declutter the home - this makes everything easier because there are fewer things to move and clean, and also it's easier to maintain. I have some friends whose homes look like store showrooms, but I've rejected that. I love St. Francis of Assisi and I find that detaching from things is necessary for holiness and sanity. I don't want things to define me. I don't care for every area being decorated with several items. I keep it minimal but it still keeps the home looking warm and comfortable. I also like meal prepping but not every day. I'll cook 3 times per week and mix and match meals so that it's not the same every day. I value my time and I always insist on having some time for myself. I see that some women give their everything for their husband and kids and then have to convince themselves that this is happiness. I don't think it's selfish if we take time to breathe, enjoy ourselves, improve ourselves by doing things like reading, or going for a mani, pedi or a facial. Time for myself lets me recharge completely and then I can be more joyful about the other things I do. This self care approach also ensures that I don't get resentful because I don't get to do x, y, or z. I don't insist on unreasonable self care or have crazy demands about it, it's simply just a little me time that lets me just be me, fully human. So basically: declutter extremely, meal prep, detach from material things as defining features in life, insist on quality and regular me time. Love you Heather, you're a joy.🥰
Thank you Heather. I love this video! I am always in the kitchen and always cleaning (never-ending story😬🙄) in my house! Some days I am weary of the same routine but you gave me some beautiful new ideas and tips in this video......just your positivity and love for your family have helped me today! God bless you always
I love the tip about blocking off time to spend with the kiddos. It’s so easy to get busy with other things. Meal planning has been a game changer for me. I only started doing it a few years ago.
Heather, you are about 12 years older than me but I feel like you have become a spiritual mother/sister to me. I wish I had a Catholic mom who could give me the kind of advice you always give. I really appreciate all your videos and I feel like we are friends even though we have never met! Thank you! God bless
This is a video I needed! My landlord just got down on me recently because my house was wrecked when she came over and she totally crushed my spirit. I have been thinking lately that I'm not cut out for homemaking. Mostly because I find myself getting complacent because like you said, it's like groundhogs day. I almost had my mind made up that there's no point because our clutter is so bad that cleaning doesnt make me feel better. I can't have nice things because I have 3 wild boys who are rough on everything. I feel stuck. I'd definitely pay someone to organize my house!
Thanks Heather, I love your videos, but have ONE complaint...I wish you were around when I was a young homemaker while taking care of my children. However, I will soon be a stay at home grandmother, and you are my inspiration. God bless you in your ministry to encourage all of us Catholic women to be faith-filled and joyful in our roles.
I dont like any house work even though I love being a mum. I have found that I enjoy it more if I listen to some podcast on anything spiritual and Catholic. I love learning about my faith. I also listen to music when I clean or just spend time with God. xxx
20K Subscribers🎉 Great tips! Right now I am struggling SO BAD because my husband is in his busy season at work and doesn’t get home until 8 or 9 at night AND the baby is teething an SUPER fussy! I can’t do anything without him crying. If I hold him he is fine but he doesn’t want to go in the baby carrier and I can’t put him down. I can’t wake up before him because he always cries if I wake up (I think he can smell I left the room lol) so frustrating! But I am just trying to ride this wave out because I know it isn’t going to last forever.
Mrs. Sanchez Hey! I got to know you thru Heather and I’m loving your cleaning videos! The ones you talk about marriage are so good as well! I am not married but it’s nice to see someone talk about real marriage life!
Hang in there!! You have the right attitude. Our baby girl was really clingy and sensitive to stimuli. For the 1st year of her life my day revolved on her needs. It was a mutual sacrifice for both of us but she is 5 now and she is very independent, content and well rounded.
I just love this video ♡ we've been married almost 3 years and the house is a mess and I'm working on organizing. We dont have kids yet so I'm trying to prepare our home for when we do. Please pray for us ♡ your tips are so amazing and encouraging. You, Heather, inspire me so much!
Love the video! You are real and honest! Homemaking is so fulfilling for me. I totally burn cookies and have no clue how to clean the oven window, but I try! My heart is full of joy because God has allowed me to have a husband and family to take care of!
That color looks lovely on you! 🥰 This was a really helpful video. I fully admit, I dont do enough playtime with my kids. I struggle with trying to do "make believe" type stuff with them. It's never been something I've been good at, but I'm gonna start setting aside time daily to do that.
Thank you and God Bless! Yes, being a SAHM is a calling and it truly is a blessing! I had my awakening when I came across a prayer from Mother Theresa and sanctifying house work❤🙏🙌😊
I've recently been dwelling on this some subject, I'm recently coming in to a love for homemaking rather than just seeing everything as chore. My recommendation is to read "a mothers rule of life". It's great practically and spiritually for how to prioritize your day and live your vocation as a wife and mother.
Oh my goodness I love being a homemaker, but you’re right, it’s a full time job by itself! My kids who are homeschooled and I have routines. We can keep the house generally tidy, but I do have four rough and tumble boys, so in this season my house is far from perfectly tidy. I really do enjoy having a clean house and a home cooked meal on the table at night!
Super, super inspirational video!!! Thank you so much for your all your insight and recommendations. They are truly truly helpful. May Jesus and the sweet VIrgin Mary bless you and your family always! Amen!
Off topic, ...This color looks great on you! You are so right homemaking is not exciting at the beginning! I did not like homemaking either but now I’m all about being organized.
Hi Heather, you're extremelly dedicated. In your phrase "your spouse was coming home from a hard day's work and he find that house is a mass and he be back at workd "If I do it I'll be being selfish. Because my wife with 3 little children has much more work than me.
Would you be willing to maybe do some recipe videos or maybe 1 recipe post on Instagram every week or bi weekly? I really enjoy cooking, but with all the kiddos I need fast, kid friendly ideas! I’d love to know your family favorites 🙂
Hi Heather thank you so much for this video 💗 I am struggling so much in this season of my life having a 5 y.o. and a 3y.o. I feel my house is constantly messy no mattervwhat I do lol...I am gonna take your suggestions and try harder! Sone days being a SAHM is a total challenge 😅😚😚😚

New York State has started giving men and women 50 days of partially paid parental leave, so my husband and I both got to experience life as a stay-at-home parent while the other worked. We both agreed that working is easier 😂😂
Hi Heather, is there a reason you turned off the comments in all your recent videos? I am not on any other social media, so for others like myself who only want and have a UA-cam account, how can we leave comments, interact with you, ask questions or enter giveaways? Are you planning on coming off of youtube all together? Is this the first step of letting us know? It will be nice to know. Thanks in advance.
I’m sorry my comments aren’t on I have no intention of stopping UA-cam😊. I would love to connect with you through my email at acatholicmomslife@gmail.com
Hi Heather, could you do a video on Godparents - how to choose them, what their role is, and how to be a good one if you are already one! Thanks 🙂
Oooo, I second that.
Yes please!!
What a great idea!
Yes, please.
