    Love this video and your channel! as a young student attending a public University I am constantly being told the opposite of what God wants. It's important to be reminded of what our priorities should look like. While I have been in college I have gotten very caught up in me, me, and me stressing myself even more. When I look at my life and see what has brought me the most joy and peace it has been serving others and God. This is something I have not focused on enough while being in school. Instead focusing on doing well in classes or hanging out with friends, which are important to a certain degree, but meanwhile I have been forgetting to fill my spiritual needs. Sometimes not focusing completely on your self is what gives you more clarity and brings you closer to God. So I really appreciate your message!!!

    I agree with this 100%! I am not a mother, but there are other ways that I put others first. The times when I volunteer are the happiest moments in my life. I never feel more fulfilled than when I am volunteering and helping others.

    You’re a trooper lady! I was alone once with my only 2 kids at the time for only 3 weeks while my husband was in Greece. It was just like you described. For me I called it my mini Lent. The struggle felt the same as the struggles we get in Lent. But after Lent there was the Resurrection:o)

    Love how you reminded me that the void comes from doing God's will. I am asking God as we speak to help me do His will. Peace does come from serving....having little kids really teaches this to you in a physical way. I stop when my body tells me, not when my mind tells me...this way my fatigue guides me when I need rest. It is humbling to reach that wall in the afternoon. Thanks for the video.

    This Is honestly the video I most love that you have done. not only do you address cultural priorities versus religious ones, but the story about how selfless you had to be during a stage in your motherhood really clicks with me. My husband just began a job where he travels and i never noticed some selfish choices I was making in regards to my mothering. Learning to be more selfless is hard but oh so wonderful once those changes become habits.

    I just feel like all roads lead to motherhood. More motherhood as a Catholic woman when the men have all the time in the world to follow there passion and goals like career.

    • @EverydayCatholic
      @EverydayCatholic 6 років тому +2

      Oh I already replied to your other comment below before seeing this. It sounds like you wanted more time to pursue your passions/career before becoming a mother. Is there any type of work that you can do while with your child? Work from home jobs online, teach classes for young children where you could bring your own, pet sitting, become a doula or work in childcare, etc. Also, if you took a part time job that was just 2 days a week for example, you could trade babysitting with another mom in your area (another mom babysits for you while you work and in exchange, you babysit for that mom on other days). Also, once your child is 5 (or earlier for preschool), if you find a good school, you can work/pursue passions while they are in school! I'm not sure how old your child is but you can pray for patience until then! Also, daily prayer really helps. You can say a prayer for penance (I'm sorry for ____), petition (please help me find daily joy in motherhood, please help with ____), adoration (the gloria prayer for example) and thanksgiving (Thank you God for all of my blessings, including: _____). Praying for you!

    Oh my goodness Heather! This is SO good! Your story is SO relatable!! I experienced the same thing too! That feeling of emptiness, restlessness dissatisfaction, and always questioning about what is the purpose of my life. After reading one of Matthew Kelly's book (resisting happiness) it finally clicked. I learned that we have a God-sized hole and nothing we put in that hole will ever satisfy us except for God. And you're so right about giving ourselves to others. I find that the days when I'm lazy or if I'm serving someone halfheartedly, Is when am less satisfied. It's only when we serve with all of our might, with EVERYTHING we have is when we are truly fulfilled. Sure, it's a draining and tiring thing to do but nothing beats the feeling of going to bed every night feeling so fulfilled and SO accomplished. It feels like our life actually means something. I feel like if I were to serve like that for the rest of my life, I would die so happily knowing that I did something beautiful with my life. I can't imagine laying in my deathbed having these regrets of not serving my family with all of my heart. A quote from Mother Teresa that's helps me give when it's hard is, "love until it hurts." Heather, you are truly wise and have a wider perspective of life than most people. I love how you reflect on things and find a solution to it. Maybe you should write a book one day! I think it would help A LOT of people because you're so relatable!!! 😆🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

    Honestly So Wise, when we are looking to fill a void within us, it's because we are not doing something probably the way God is intending it to be, the best way to fill that void is asking God, what is it you want me to do? What do You want me to do?

    The hardest thing for me coming back to the church I disappointed my wife when I was going to other churches but when I came back I went to the parish what do I need to do I want to come back the lady there said set up an appointment what's the priest make a confession. That was the biggest mistake of my life because this is Jesus Christ Church then I left. So I made a confession to the priest and I told the priest I really messed up can I get baptized again he said no there's only one baptism and he said instead of getting repainted just make a confession your sins will be resolved I feel so much better since I'm going to confession regularly. I'm going to confession once a month it took me the longest time to say everything cuz I hadn't done a confession before because I didn't know how to make a confession I do not know what a mortal sin was. I did not know what venial sins War. Does my mom taught me sin is sin. Took me over a year because I didn't know the sins that I committed I did not keep track of everything so the Holy Spirit started telling me the things I need to confess can you wake me up in the middle of the night and he would remind me so all my mortal sins have been resolved now I'm in the state of grace. I wish I would have came back 27 years ago when I was in my 40s I came middle 60s now I am going to be 68 all October 2024. Even though I was doing the wrong thing God watched over me how was it in a very bad accident on the freeway when I was living in Missouri and worked in Kansas City Kansas I hit the medium I thought I was going to be killed so God told me to turn my steering wheel away from The Medium and that saved my life can I roll my car over many times and because of that I wasn't Truman Hospital three to four days because of that spinal injury my spine got healed but now I have a very bad arthritis in my spinal cord when I praise God wasn't killed I was able to come back to God's Church.

    There's a subject I like you to talk about I'm a returning Catholic I was gone for many decades. I was raised the Baptist then 4 Years After High School I got baptized in the Catholic Church confirmation and confirm. Because I was not a baby when I was baptized and she was my high school classmate. At that time I was 22 years old. What got me to change from Baptist to Catholic I used to live at my parents house I used to take walks do the Catholic church around Christmas time they would have images a Virgin Mary in Jesus Christ in the stable in St Joseph that got me curious I liked what I saw then my classmate invited me to their wedding that was at the Catholic Church and I like that then I started taking the classes. And I didn't understand everything that I was taught then I left the church for a while not married in a Catholic Church. Me and my wife 18 years and I've been back to the Catholic Church 17 months I go to Mass of obligation every single Sunday unless I'm sick. I also go to Mass holy days of obligation are next holiday extension of mama Mary August 15th

    May I ask tour opinion on Putting god first? As a woman results as a mother? :( I am struggling with this as a new catholic convert. What happens if we are frustrated with motherhood. Don't want anymore and am starting nfp but it could result in having another child. Statistics show nfp doesn't always work. I don't want to loose myself anymore to motherhood. Thank you for your time. I appreciate it.

      Both me and my husband were conceived when our mothers though they couldn't get pregnant because of the pill (the most effective birth control) for both of my children, I have a good idea of when they were conceived. (Because we only use nfp). I would rather admit what actions can lead to babies, and decide each month how much I do or don't want to get pregnant rather then be surprised by a baby that was conceived due to the failure rate that everything has.

      Congratulations to the Catholic Church. It’s a beautiful thing to truly know God. Because you’ll see God working in your life. Giving oneself is not an easy thing to do when one doesn’t have the graces. So seek Jesus for everything! He’s real and will help you if you seek him with a humble heart and put him first in your life. God blessed.

      What do you do. If you do. Not want any more children and u r using nfp. U can nfp all u want but statistics and a few friends all show it does not always work. Then what do I do. Am I not trusting God enough. I don't want anymore children. But Maybe I am putting myself and what I want first. I just really really really don't want anymore children. Like really.

      I don't use birth control but a condom is so 100 percent. We are not allowed to use a condom but it it prevents pregnancy along with nfp. I'm getting the impression that it's not my choice and if we get pregnant then we get pregnant. Thank you so much everyone for your time. I am exploring and searching and praying.

    • @CatholicHomelife
      @CatholicHomelife 6 років тому +2

      First of all, welcome to the Catholic church! My heart goes out to you regarding openness to life! Have you taken classes for NFP? That might help to really know the method and increase effectiveness. But I think beyond that, to pray for a trust in letting God plan your family. In the creed we say "I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life." That always gives me comfort, knowing that it is God who gives life to us. So being open to life doesn't mean you'll have 20 kids, lol. I know married couples - open to life - with no children, 1 child, 3 children, 10 children, ect... all of them are open to life but God plans each of our families in different ways. For me, openness to life has involved a healing from the influence of our crumbling culture. I could keep rambling, haha... God bless!

    To be honest I feel that women have already been putting themselves last for millennia. And despite what society may be saying (and i agree - society is telling us to put ourselves first), when I look at the women in my life I have yet to see a single one who puts herself first on a consistent basis. Which is why most of them are worn out, depressed, overweight or otherwise not in the best health physically, and older than their years. Yet men have been living for themselves, for their careers, for their politics, and for their wars from the dawn of time. And I see no sign of that changing. It's off-putting.

    There's nothing in the world I would rather do than to be able to spend 24 hours a day 7 days a week in my own home with my own children. Nothing about that is sacrificial. There would be nothing greater. On the other hand..... How many people out there would like to be alone in China for 7 months without your family? That's sacrifice.
