I played in a band with a guy that had one of these and I fell in love with how that thing sounded. He loved that thing and he took damn good care of it. This was almost 20 yrs ago, but I bet he still has it. Best bass player I ever played with and his style meshed perfectly with my drumming. His backup was an Ernie Ball Music Man.
I've owned a pile of basses over the years and love my Spectors and my 6 string yamaha TRB. But to this day i have never heard a bass cut through a P.A. System like a Kubicki. Just like a Spector it has it's own unique sound and look. Great VIDEO...DUDE YOU'RE HILARIOUS.
I have owned two of these and am in the process of ordering one new from the Factor(y); it is not just the best bass guitar ever designed and built, it is the finest musical instrument of any kind ever seen on this planet. Philip Kubicki was an absolute genius and from George Harrison’s rosewood Telecaster thru this EXF4, he proved himself to be the finest luthier of the last hundred years. Oh, and your technique is wonderful, by the way; you’ve definitely got a bass worthy of your skill set. Peace and love

I'm envious Johnny, I would love to have a bass like that. What a great buy! Most people that finally get their hands on these basses usually say its the best playing bass they own:)
The best bass ever followed closely by Warwick streamer stage 1 and a Musicman Stingray. Such a unique sound sound. The 18v pre-amp ones are even better.
I have always wanted to own a Kubiki Factor ( the fact that it has 102,000 laminate neck design) and an Aria Pro ii SB 650. Yeah...can you tell I like John Taylor's bass work?
I played one of these in a music store in like 1988. They wanted 800.00, which back then was serious money. I've never hated being poor more than I did that day. I've loved these basses ever since, and still regret being poor.
WOW !!! Between 8:33-8:45 those Jaco chords....so beautiful. I hope that you treasure that bass because Mr.Kubicki defenitely designed and built a "BETTER MOUSETRAP".
Really nice bass playing Johnny. I always wanted to play a Kubicki after seeing a video of Vial Johnson playing one at the Montreaux Jazz festival with Kenny G.... I learned bass guitar initially by largely by adopting Steve Harris's style and am a P bass fan, so rock was always a big influence for me, however as a UK white child of the 70's from the North west of England Funk, Soul, Disco and Motown, were part of my upbringing, and I've always been moved by those tunes, it's why I picked bass over guitar when I got into rock. As a young boy I started in a brass band and moved from cornet to Baritone to Tuba, people may find that funny, but if you like those deep tones wind or string, well you're a bassist. I have a Kubicki the similar color as yours. I've had it for a few years now, it came up on e-bay and I was working on an oil rig at the time. I got drunk one night and saw it online, the next day I woke up...(was I on e-bay last night?). I checked...(you are the winning bidder). So it arrived and I hid it under the bed for a fortnight before I told my girlfriend (now wife). It's a superb instrument and I'll never part with it. I loved watching you play it and it has inspired me to improve, thanks man. I was so sad to hear at Phil's passing, I'll never get the chance to thank him. I can just try to be the best bass player I can be, that's what he would want. And with the instrument he designed, that's perfectly possible, thank you Phil, godspeed sir.

It got so bad that Philip went back to where he worked before & that was Fender & requested help from Fender so he could keep up with the ongoing building of his Kubicki Bass Guitars & now im not going to go into what happened over the 4 Years he couldnt get out of Fenders 4 Year Contract but i do know that word got back to Phil about the Fender Custom Shop versions & he didnt like what he was hearing & according to my research it was getting even more worse , as according to Phil its one thing to disrespect what he was trying ti build with his 3 ranges of Kubicki Bass Guitars & he jad to take that one on the chin but when he was infirmed that Fender were now practically going to now drag his name down also & that was not going to happen while he still had air in his lungs & he wasnt going to let anyone disrespect his name & for what i found out it stated that Phil had tried on many occassions to get full control back from Fender... But Fenders story was always staying thr same & that Fender claimed that theu could only build those FCS Kubicki Basd Guitars from parts that Phil was sending them , so in essence Fender flipped it around so that Fender werent to blame as , again , Fender kept stating that they could only use only the parts that Phil sent them & i learned a very very very long time ago that its not worth trying to prove that 1 or the other was to blame & that as far as i found out that once the 4 Year Contract that Fender signed up to help Phil with meant Phil legally had no choice or option but to wait until those 4 years were finslly up & that Phil now had Full Control back & he could go on to keep building his 3 versions of the Kubicki but as I've said i wasnt getting dragged into picking anyone's full story & that Phil was to blame or that Fender Custom Shop versions were also to blame , when that not have been the case... Whenever i was drawn into trying to settle a dispute with my friends & their partners & i always got dragged into this because they knew i wouldnt be biased & that i would hear out what both had to & thatbi was never going to back someone's story up because they were close friends of mine & again they knew i wouldnt take 1 sides of that story & id want to hesr both sides before making my honest opinion & since the internet was found out for making up fake news , well lets just say , i never took Phils story or Fenders story as the gospel word as i've always tried to remain impartial & that no one got preferential treatment even if they were family & hence im not 100% sure ss ti who was wrong or right or both were as bad as each other , as once one learns that even thr internet news can BE & HAS BEEN CAUGHT OUT FOR PRINTING FAKE NEWS ON THEIR WEBSITES & its difficult who to trust or side , once we find out that fake news is everywhere were on specific Tv Channels or in stories written in to be uploaded to pages that are putting up fake news on these online websites & hence why i take any news with a pinch of salt , until it can be proven to be 100% to be true & as you'll know they are those in various sections of media & that unless it csn be heard coming out of their very mouths , then its just not worth getting people from 1 side & people from the other to finally state 100% as to what really happened... hi, great vid and great so see a kubicki factor bass again,. i had a a pre fender which was awesome! neck played great with a super low action and the tone was unique, no other bass sounds like it, while i still owned the pre fender i did get a chance to try out a fender kubicki and was shocked by the difference between the 2 basses, the fender action was awful, The Fender did not play as well as "real" Kubickis. . there was just no way to get the action down. The real Kubickis' string height is about 50% lower than the Fenders also the multi-laminate necks on the Fenders are said to have not been properly sealed and this often makes them even more sensitive to humidity as was the one that i tried the neck was slightly bowed, it was like playing a bad copy, so avoid the fender era, dates of production are The first production bass released in 1985 had a serial number of #024 and belonged to John Taylor of Duran Duran. The LAST serial numbered original Kubicki PRE-Fender was #1286 dated 02 89 (so the first Fender was #1287.) The LAST Fender Kubicki serial number is unknown but Kubicki began remanufacturing the basses POST-Fender in mid-1991 at serial number #3051 after Fender's licensing agreement ended.
It was my husband’s bass and he played bass guitar for 40 years I am going to put it up for sale but dont want it to go to just anyone. My husband passed in 2018 . I would rather sell it to someone who would really appreciate it and care for it like he did
I found one in the shop in Taiwan, it sounds so dead, don’t know why, the shop still list it in high price, I expect to hear the Kenny G midnight motion bass solo sound, but no....
Hey man, great playing! Online there is a new Kubicki website and a Facebook page, apparently you can have a Kubicki custom built but it is not cheap. Have you come across a new Kubicki? Any idea on how the new ones are like? Thank you for making such good and fun videos.
I have no talent compared to you, but I do have TWO Kubicki’s. At one time I had FIVE. GAS is hard to deal with! Anyway, my favorite bass tied with a Pedulla Thunderbass or MVP.
Nice picture of the Brooklyn Bridge above your chill seats, complete with drink holders and mini-table for whatever. I assume there is a large screen you placed the video recorder on? Maybe not. Nice bass - kinda reminds of of Parker Fly guitars, which are awesome instruments - he's a genius luthier!
Interesting bass. And, yeah, take that tuner off. Hate seeing people sporting them on their vids - looks like a mushroom is growing off the head or something.
Love it. Bought mine in 91 or 92. Then 2 years later I forgot to close the latch on the cap of the pickup truck after a gig... it was gone.

Best bass ever created!!! I'll stop there.
Trouble is after getting one everything else is meh....
The best bass the word
I want one. But I can't remember how to play... I used to love its bridge, but now, regular tuning machines would be ok anyway.
hi, great vid and great so see a kubicki factor bass again,. i had a a pre fender which was awesome! neck played great with a super low action and the tone was unique, no other bass sounds like it, while i still owned the pre fender i did get a chance to try out a fender kubicki and was shocked by the difference between the 2 basses, the fender action was awful, The Fender did not play as well as "real" Kubickis. .
there was just no way to get the action down.
The LAST serial numbered original Kubicki PRE-Fender was #1286 dated 02 89 (so the first Fender was #1287.)
The LAST Fender Kubicki serial number is unknown but Kubicki began remanufacturing the basses POST-Fender in mid-1991 at serial number #3051 after Fender's licensing agreement ended.
Hey Johnny if you’re local to Michigan I have a sunburst kubicki factor bass
It was my husband’s bass and he played bass guitar for 40 years I am going to put it up for sale but dont want it to go to just anyone. My husband passed in 2018 . I would rather sell it to someone who would really appreciate it and care for it like he did
I know it is worth alot so I am looking to get a decent and fair price considering how wonderful it is. It was my husband’s baby.
You can look me up on Facebook And I can send some pics if you’re interested in it or know someone else who would take care of it well
Hit me up at the HOBO DEPOT CUSTOM BASS SHOP we need to talk

Hit me up...Bootjak7@yahoo.com
I found one in the shop in Taiwan, it sounds so dead, don’t know why, the shop still list it in high price, I expect to hear the Kenny G midnight motion bass solo sound, but no....
Hey man, great playing! Online there is a new Kubicki website and a Facebook page, apparently you can have a Kubicki custom built but it is not cheap. Have you come across a new Kubicki? Any idea on how the new ones are like? Thank you for making such good and fun videos.
Aren't the strings falling off your bridge?
No the bass has no neck
Hey Jonny you have more than one favorite bass. What is your real favorite. Hmmm sabre. Music man. Hmmm
Anything Vintage....... musicman sting Ray would be my go 2
36 strips Johnny!!
Cheiro de Laine forte aqui 😎
Keep it all original.
I had a Kubicki but fell out of love with it. Far too toppy and lacks warmth up the neck. Each too their own.
👍👍
Play some Duran Duran Rio on that biotch -----------------
Man, you aint even show the drop D??
👐😎👐
I have no talent compared to you, but I do have TWO Kubicki’s. At one time I had FIVE. GAS is hard to deal with! Anyway, my favorite bass tied with a Pedulla Thunderbass or MVP.
Nice picture of the Brooklyn Bridge above your chill seats, complete with drink holders and mini-table for whatever. I assume there is a large screen you placed the video recorder on? Maybe not. Nice bass - kinda reminds of of Parker Fly guitars, which are awesome instruments - he's a genius luthier!
Mine is a male. For sure
Sorry johnny
jealous
Interesting bass. And, yeah, take that tuner off. Hate seeing people sporting them on their vids - looks like a mushroom is growing off the head or something.
