Always diagnosing the system correctly to decide if this is what needs to be done this is car specific your car may be in a similar place but it's not going to be in the exact place and you may have a different way of what you have to get to it
it's important to do some diagnostics. or, be like me and blow $500 replacing everything end to end. I made that decision because it's all 20 years old, call it preemptive maintenance I guess. the expansion valve is just one possibility and the least likely. it's common to replace if the compressor has died. apparently multiple people have had issues with the ac amplifier, which for our siennas (1998-2000) is toyota part 8865008020
