      I agree, mostly. The smallmouth favorite fish to target. They are so much fun! Could you imagine hooking into a 5 pound bluegill? I think that ounce for ounce, pound for pound… The Bluegill wins.

    • @2199SPUDMAN
      @2199SPUDMAN Рік тому

      @@lawrencewilhelm3031 Yeah, but most of that would be due to trying to reel in a fish shaped like a dinner plate turned sideways. Smallies are much stronger and they have that oversized tail. Bluegill rarely if ever jump -- smallies will go acrobatic.

      Nothing exciting really, I just drove delivery trucks most of my life. I worked for DHL and Fedex for several years and drove a medical supply truck about 500 miles a day a few years last before I got layed off. Fortunately that was right around the time my UA-cam checks started getting to be bigger than my paychecks. After 20 years of breaking my back and knees hopping in and out of delivery trucks I was ready for a change and I never would have thought making fishing videos could be a career path lol.

      @@RoadLifePursuits The past couple years I’ve made more off my fishing videos than I ever did working a real job so yeah the potential to make good money is there. For me the money is in the views. Ad rates during the summer usually pay $6-10 per thousand views so if I can average 2 million views a month across my channel I can expect a check for 12-20k each month. Of course about 30% of that I have to hand over to the IRS, pay for gas/tackle/camera gear etc and the ad rates drop over the winter where I get a fraction of my summer revenue but it sure beats working myself almost to exhaustion 10-12 hours a day in a hot truck for 35k a year! It can be stressful when the fish aren’t biting though and I’m struggling to come up with footage.

    Love that AFTER going into the water to retrieve your phone you kept fishing! That’s dedication! The accent is familiar, having grown up in MN in 60s and 70s and fished ND (Grand Forks area) rivers back in 1980s. The spread of smallmouth in the Upper Midwest has been a real upgrade to the already awesome fishery. People used to look down on smallmouth (walleyes forever!) but now they’ve even taken over the hallowed waters of Mille Lacs Lake. Yes, it’s an “invasive species” but one that everyone seems to love and for good reason.

    When I was a kid in Utah back in the mid 70's my fishing buddy, kind of a mix of big brother, best friend, partner in crime (him being a family man with 3 daughters who didn't fish) needing a fishing buddy grabs the son of a widow who lives across the street and needs a miracle a father figure who has time to teach this kid the tricks of fishing for rainbow, cutthroat, big mouth and small mouth, pike and anything else that swims. One of the best places we found to fish was on the road up Provo Canyon. Wherever a culvert crosses the road we get out, catch minnows with a cheese hook loaded with stinky cheese and a small salmon egg. We then use the minnows to fish for rainbows in the pools both upstream and down from the culvert. Caught some beautiful trout in those streams had a blast doing it and I'm sure my friend Del is still out there doing it.

    First I've seen the NEW TRUCK. Looks like you kept your old Ranger until Ford relaunched them and then got one of the new ones! Can't blame you for that, I still have my '98 S-10. Grats!

      I had to trade in the old two door for a new four door when I found out I had a baby on the way. I miss the five speed in the old one but the new Ranger is really nice!

      @@ndyakangler That's great Matt, again, grats on the truck but especially the kid. I have two sons and being a father has been the most rewarding thing I've ever done.

    OmG! I remember your post on FB about having to go for a swim in late September! I'm glad you were able to get your phone back and then STILL CATCH FISH...lol. BUT, talk about great footage for a fb-short, set the hat-cam down...dive into nearly freezing river...come out with phone in hand...instant viral...lol.
